I really enjoy hearing Peter talk about wine. Agree with him on Coulee de Serrant aged is something else 🤯… The end of the conversation is great about the two sides of the industry. The bulk wines that are bottled all over the place is unfortunately what A LOT of people drink world wide.
When at a restaurant, I’m like Peter when asking for a “by the glass” wine, and I ask “When was the bottle opened”? I refuse a glass unless it comes from a fresh bottle.
This was really encouraging overall except for one thing. Would love to do such a program. I am very passionate. But then Peter talks about the financial commitments to being successful in the program. That you need to be tasting the classics which all costs good money. I am very poor. It is sad that there seems to be no good way into such a path without already having good money to invest. That is very discouraging.
There's no rush, it's a journey that takes decades. Many of these somms were professionals who dovetailed into the professional wine world midway through life. If you're focused on wine but don't have the means to take a shortcut to the top, consider first becoming a restaurateur or working in the wine industry in a more "regular" capacity (not necessarily in tasting, but in marketing or distribution, or wherever there is opportunity for professional development), and go from there.
I think wine is just like fashion, watch or car. I take public bus to my working place, while our CEO's chauffeur takes him in Rolls Royce. If you really like wine, you could give up living in a better place, wearing high fashion, for just a fine bottle of wine. It is a matter of choice.
I have never heard anyone with as much knowledge of Wine as Peter. His passion and humour is invigorating. I also love his video collaboration with Jay Lee.
Absolutely fascinating discussion. Great insight into the industry! Peter's wealth of knowledge coupled with his humble nonchalance Make some seem like a fantastic gentleman.
It may be lucky that not many people are loving $9 $11 $40 $50 wines rather than fine wines, otherwise the price of those relatively scare wines will fly up

Barev aper my Armenian is not so good but it is absolutely fantastic to see an Armenian wine professional, wine is so integral to our roots I commend you in every way. Honestly it is inspiring for an American Armenian such as myself to pursue my passion and hopefully make a career out of being a wine professional myself. Thank you!!! I will be binging thru your videos now :)
The idea of "Vegan" wine is hilarious. Anyone who has grown grapes and crushed them knows the number of crawly things that get into the bunches. Are they really going through and picking out every single bug, ant, bee part before the crush? No. There is no such thing as vegan wine any more than there is vegan beef.
