As a brazilian from Rio de Janeiro, I can confirm this movie is the most acurate dipiction of my city ever made outside of Brazil. From the geography, the music, the views, the people... everything is near perfect! There some steriotypes that the movie reinforces, but they are portraid acuratelly still and aren't harmfull nor exagerated, afterall steriotypes exist for a reason. In contrast, the Simpsons depicted Rio next to the Amazon rainforest (wich is like saying that New York is next to Hollywood), hotel workers playing football with their literal bagages and adult content on the street carnival parades and on children TV shows. All of these things are EXTREME exagerations of real things in Brazil.
I remember this movie was on my TV in the background and I wasn't paying attention until that scene with the redhead girl throwing it back. And then it was funny to see TikTok make a trend out of it all these years later 😂
Consolation for Kor, the 2nd movie reveals that there entire colony was only hidden and never extinct, so jewel meets her father, and blu has to win over jewel's entire clan, especially considering he loses a bet that causes the entire colony to leave the forest (that gets resolved almost immediately so its ok :D) So they don't have to do Incest!!!

Rio is an underrated masterpiece tbh, I love the story and its characters The sequel is okay, not as great as the first but not too bad, it's enjoyable as well

This movie is very good at showing carioca culture (culture from Rio de Janeiro), and it doesnt try to hide it from being a mostly Rio movie, heck its in the title. It's good that they dissociate themselves from just an ampler Brazil in favor of a state/city, since it's very likely you won't find what you see in the movie in most places in Brazil outside Rio

"Hot Wings" started playing at my Halloween dance for school, SO many people were dancing. A group of girls were half yelling the lyrics.
In retrospect, I'm pretty sure the Carnival portion of this movie had some influence on my current... tastes.

1:42 As a little child me my brother and my mom had a small parakeet and it was really shy and scared at the first day he saw us, then he started repeating words but he would be really loud at nights so we had to cover his cage with a blanket sadly since me and my brothet was scared of him, we would usually hide under the table and he would roam freely in the room, it makes me really sad that I was not able to spend time with him, we had some good memories man, now my parakeet is living with a relative and I can not see him until I get to the age of 18..
