You really are a brilliant vlogger. The little details like the click noise when your subtitles change, or the small zooms for emphasis, and your subtle (or hilariously overt!) comedic timing - not also to mention how well you capture the vibe and beauty of the places you visit - is all so good! You are one of my top five TH-camrs for sure. Thanks so much for being so thoughtful and thorough with every video you make. It really makes such a huge difference.

Your fashion and style is perfect for Japan-light, airy and bubbly! Also I think this was my favorite vlog so far because it reminds me that humans can and do coexist with other creatures in harmony. You hear and see so much bad stuff from people, but the fact that people aren’t bothering them and that the deer feel so safe there makes me think this has been an ongoing thing for a while. It makes me happy.

Hello I enjoy every moments of what you are up to while in my country! (I live in the UK at the moment) "Shitsurei Shimashita" or "Shitsurei shimasu" means "Sorry to bother you" or "Sorry to disturb you".. Train guards are usually walking through pass carriages if anyone hasn't got tickets (or extend their distance) then they can adjust the fares by selling adjustment tickets. (These days contactless cards should take care of it but some train companies like Kintetsu may still do its exercise of "conductor visit".)

Kasuga Taisha Shrine values Japanese deer as messengers of the gods. Kasuga Taisha is the guardian deity of the Fujiwara clan. The Fujiwara clan was a family that prospered for 1200 years as a maternal relative of the imperial family. Deer, considered to be messengers of the gods, have also been treated with great care. Genetic analysis of Nara's deer revealed that they were genetically isolated from wild Japanese deer in other regions over 1,000 years ago. The strange thing about the Fujiwara clan is that although they had close blood ties to the imperial family, they themselves did not try to replace the imperial family itself.

Shitsurei shimasu is just a polite thing to say when entering, or shitsurei shimasta when leaving. It kind of means “I’m intruding/I’ve been rude”. At a friend or acquaintances house it’s usually something I say as I come in and remove my shoes

"Shitsurei shimasu" literally means, "I'm going to be rude." This expression is used in various situations. When entering someone's house or room, it means "Excuse my interrupting." When leaving it is used as "Excuse my leaving" or "Good-bye."

Japan's original country name NIPPON means "country under the sun," but the traditional name of the country when the capital was here in Nara was YAMATO (WA). Yamato means "land of great harmony between people and nature.
For about 1,300 years since the Emperor established the capital of Japan in Nara, deer have been traditionally cherished as messengers of the sacred gods of this island nation blessed with nature, until the present day.
The deer know that humans think so from generation to generation, so even though the city has changed its appearance, the deer still feel safe and comfortable living here.
Surrounded by the sea on all four sides, geographically isolated from Eurasia continent in the Pacific Ocean this island nation has a warm and humid climate and is blessed with abundant clear water resources, a variety of plants, and fishery resources.
Since ancient times, people have lived peacefully with nature. They have respected harmony, lived peacefully in groups, and overcome many severe natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and typhoons, with each other in groups based on their wisdom and have enjoyed the blessings of nature by cooperating.
The name of the ancient Japanese nation of "YAMATO" or "WA" reflects the wishes and realities of the people to live
and to survive in this natural environment of the island nation that differs from that of the Eurasia continent.
And in the names of the ancient countries, the essence and secrets of Japanese Cultures are hidden.
(humans began to live in villages and communities in this island nation about 14,000 years ago, during “the Jomon pottery” culture.:That's 30,000 years ago, if you count the Neolithic period.)
We are often asked what they do with deer droppings. The deer in Nara Park are not domesticated, but have been wild deer since ancient times. They return to the mountains at night to sleep and come down to the park at sunrise. They are fed only deer crackers by tourists, and their staple food is the grass and turf in the park.
Deer droppings amount to 300 tons per year, but we humans don't care much about deer droppings.
The reason is that the park is inhabited by a large number of insects called "dung beetles," which digest deer feces as their staple food. The dead bodies of the dung beetles are digested by earthworms and microorganisms and returned to the soil, where they become fertilizer for the deer's staple food, grass.
Since ancient times, this place has been kept clean and free from terrible stench by natural circulation in its natural state, not artificially.
The name of the country of Japan when the capital was located in Nara 1300 years ago was "Yamato" or "Wa". (The meaning of Yamato is the country of great harmony between man and nature.)
As the name suggests, it is truly a city where man and nature have been in harmony for a long time.
Legend has it that the deer were the servants of a holy god who led the gods to bring to the Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara, and since people did not harm the deer, the deer in Nara live together with people in the city without fear of people.

Hi❣️Thank you for your reply. ☺️
Also, thank you for liking the city of Nara and deer.🦌🥰👍
I will tell you one piece of information. ☝️
The giant pickle shown at 20:57 is a local specialty called “Nara-zuke(奈良漬)“
This is made by pickling vegetables such as ‘Long-melon’, ‘cucumber’, ‘thin-radish’, and ‘burdock’, and fruits such as ‘persimmon’ and ‘melon’ in ‘Sake-lees(酒粕,rice is the raw material for ‘Japanese-sake’、日本酒)’ left over after sake production.
It is a food that mixes the aroma of ‘Japanese-sake’ with the sweet, salty, and vegetable and fruit flavors.
People who don't like alcohol won't like it, but people who don't mind alcohol might find it delicious.☺️
At stores, we sell not only large boxes, but also small ones in plastic bags, and paste-like products made by chopping various kinds into small pieces and mixing them together, so you might want to try those out.😌
(Of course, you can also eat ‘Sake-lees’.)
As a side note, Nara is also a producer of ‘Japanese-sake’, so there are various brands of ‘Japanese-sake’ from many sake breweries sold in 720ml mini bottles, so you can try them out as well. 🤗🍀
(In fact, there are some liquor stores where you can sample for a fee.)

Approximately 80% of those who reported damage caused by deer were foreigners, and 80% of those were Chinese tourists.
The reason why people are bitten by deer is because they get irritated when they try to take a picture with the deer or try to get them to bow, or when they give them deer crackers. The irritated deer become angry and bite or lunge, causing harm to tourists.
Deer do not have fangs or upper front teeth, so even if they are bitten, there is almost no blood.
Many people buy deer rice crackers because they want to see deer bowing to them. Some people may want to record a video of this with their smartphone.
However, this cute bowing motion is not a thank you, but a threatening motion. If you see a deer bowing, don't prioritize taking pictures; instead, feed it rice crackers as soon as possible.
Be even more careful in autumn and winter!
Please be aware that deer are most likely to get angry during the fall and winter. In the fall, male deer are in heat and are excited, so don't approach them casually.
In the winter, there is less vegetation for food and deer are hungry. Meanwhile, if they see a person holding deer rice crackers but not giving them to them, they may get irritated and attack.
Consider the deer's feelings to prevent them from becoming violent.
If we go on a trip to Nara and see a lot of deer, we might get excited too. You may want to take pictures of the deer feeding to create memories, but from the deer's perspective, doing so can be a nuisance.
Deer are wild animals after all, and it is natural for them to get angry if they are teased when there is food right in front of them. If you put yourself first and don't consider the deer's feelings, you may end up getting hurt. If you have a chance to go to Nara Park, please consider the deer's feelings when interacting with them.

If you feed it right away without worrying about it, it won't attack.

Here in the USA we are not encouraged to feed any wildlife. It looks like those deer are overfed and I find it hard to believe that they have no dogs around to chase them off. Wild animals are unpredictable and they are generally unsafe to be in close proximity. Hope you have no close encounters with them.

Because of the legend, deer in Nara were thought of as sacred animals (the helpers of gods), so they have been protected carefully. It’s not the case in other regions. In Japan, we are also not encouraged to feed any wild animals as well.

    • @catherinekayy
      @catherinekayy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes I think like the others have said Nara is a slightly special place, you can only feed them the crackers, and they are kept and well cared for in this city 🌸🙏⭐️

    • @koromaru3
      @koromaru3 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Deer have been protected like gods in Nara since ancient times. We feed deer rice crackers made from rice bran that humans can also eat. If tourists give anything other than deer crackers or throw away plastic bags around the area, deer will get sick or die if they eat them, so please don't do that. Also, avoid approaching deer that have fawns. I will kick you to protect my child. Also, please avoid touching fawns. Parents may abandon raising their young if the scent of humans gets on their fawns.
