You should do the sequel to this book. The sequel is, "The Reign of Quantity and the Signs of the Times", it's free online. The "critical moment" Guenon spoke of was already passed back in the 1930s and 40s and because that critical moment was passed negatively, Guenon decided to write the cited sequel. Things have now taken a complete nose-dive and, according to him, will only get worse until the intervention of a "supra-cosmic principle", after the point where what he calls the "counter-initiation" have succeeded in setting up, to a greater or lesser degree, a global empire of subversion. In that atmosphere, the so called mythical beings will be visible to mankind once more (faeries, elementals, demons/asuras, angels/gods, etc), human beings will experience, both beneficially and in a malevolent way, an awakening of both non-sensory powers and states of being and the world will resemble a sort of apocalyptic hell-scape. After the intervention of the "supra-cosmic principle " however, which some call the Nara-Narayana principle or the mahdi-christ principle, things will return back to their proper state of normalcy as humanity is led to the dawn of the next "golden age"/Satya-Yuga. I highly recommend both reading and reviewing/lecturing the book online too.
Appreciate this comment. I just finished the Crisis of the Modern World yesterday, and look forward to reading more. Unsurprising that he talks about there needing to be a supra-cosmic principle. As a Muslim, I regularly hear from people how the Mahdi is just about to arrive considering the state we're in. Though part of me feels like we're just saying that because we live in this particular age, where all the problems of the world feel new and alien somehow, and we're just trying to explain it away by calling this the Dark Age or Kali Yuga, etc.
@@kamelame9633 Guenon bases his position on the law of cosmic cycles, a law that governs the development of all manifestation, to varying degrees, whether it be a single being or an entire world. Particular cycles are marked by particular signs, which indicate the nature and quality of the cosmic environment and of the beings that exist within that cosmic environment at that particular cycle( hence the title of his sequel Reign of Quantity and The Signs of The Times). That said, few in this particular cycle can even "read the signs", I.e. understand the nature of things anymore, Guenon was one of the few who could do so, to a degree, and thus concluded that this is indeed the darkest period of the kali yuga. The intervention of "avatara", with his "army of gods/angels" before this cycle closes is probably an allusion to the unveiling of the King of the World, along with the entire people of Aghartha.

For some crucially important reasons, the ideas of Frithjof Schuon [when differing from those of René Guénon] are of world-shaking importance; so one must be informed: he summarizes his distinctive ideas on page 53 of Aldo Vidali's dossier of the Schuon cult, which is on ZLibrary and Scribd. He writes that a pure pneumatic [افراد، فرد] has a revelation and the primordial law in the depths of his own heart, so revelation and a sacred law are not essential, and such a person can never deviate, whatever appearances may be from a particular limited perspective. As proof, he cites impeccable authorities: The Brahma Sutras, Meister Eckhardt and René Guénon, all of whom said more in other passages well worth reading, and found on my site here: Frithjof Schuon: A last minute lesson in discerment.
There, you'll also find a page with excerpts from Guénon's letters on Schuon, dated from 1936 to 1950; and a refutation of Schuon's booklet, called "Some observations," in which he criticizes Guénon. The French of that Refutation is on Scribd, called Réfutation de Quelques critiques, de Schuon. Theres an automatic translation into English on Scribd too but it's much better on my site; and a fine metaphysician is editing my editing for the ideas...so soon, God willing, it will be great!
For an opposite view, that of the"Schuonians," see "Frithjof Schuon: Messenger of the Perennial philosophy," which is on pdfdrive, ZLibrary and Scribd. The chapter called "At variance with Guénon" shows how/why Schuon thought he was the "most profound metaphysician of the twentieth century," when he also thought a lot more. I'm dead set opposed to that book, beginning with the title, handwritten by Frithjof Schuon on page xvii. That word "Messenger" drives me out of my mind; and the idea that the Perennial philosophy is anything like a religion that leads to salvation and has a Prophet...finishes me off completely! Of course I love all revelations: who would dream otherwise!

Hello. I'm an admirer of your work, and I'd like to know what your process is to create notes for a lecture such as this. Do you go through the book page by page, word by word or simply read them like you would a novel?
Usually I make notes as I'm reading and then I make the slides from the notes themselves and then record the lecture with a view to the text as a whole etc.

Very informative video, but the editing in this is not great. You abruptly cut yourself off when speaking as you transition from one slide to the next, which is kind of annoying. Otherwise, the information provided here is quite helpful in understanding a complex work by a great thinker.

I enjoyed your analysis, but your use of "he or she", is annoying; it's a blatant sign of the modernization derided in this whole discussion.

Strange how my political or practical-philosophical worldview is in many ways the same as Guenon's, but I find everything Guenon says philosophically absolutely wrongheaded. He is a Platonist who believes this world (of "matter", a non-word) is unreal, which is the core feature of Hebraic thought. Also, he idealizes the past while he's supposed to present a cyclical worldview, which is just as irrational as belief in progress.
It's true that some of Guenon's more "meta-" takes are very cloudy and there are passages which appear to be a form of apologetics based on finely spun special pleading. We ought to remember though that his understanding of "matter" is in that qualified Greek sense.
