For all I know, the blame for the violence could be on both the pro-russians and pro-Ukrainians, but the clip where there is that group huddled together, surrounded by that mob of people- that's shows no ounce of humanity. I've seen this kicking on the ground at school, albeit with much smaller kids not capable of inflicting major injuries. Usually cowards who would never take on the grounded man in a one-on-one fight. Hated most by the teachers who tolerated a minor bit of fighting in my school days as part of growing up in an all boys school in the 1960's.

    Its too bad Ukraine was duped by Russia into giving up its' nuclear weapons.
    Russia made a binding international agreement in 1994 to respect the territorial sovereignty of Ukraine and in return Ukraine agreed to give up its stockpile of weapons (the third largest in the world).
    Its nice to know Russia does not honor its agreements.

    •  10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's also a pity the west does not have the power required to deter Russian aggression. At least so far it seems like diplomatic and economic isolation is their only threat to Russia. Not to say that's little thing to do (it will certainly hurt Russia a lot, but also the west, and worst thing is the measures don't seem to scare Putin one bit) but the treaty of Budapest has been broken by Russia and legally the west is required to intervene.
      The Ukrainian PM said it best: how is the west to ever convince any other nuclear power to voluntarily disarm? No matter what regime change happens in N. Korea or Iran, those countries are never going to agree to be disarmed if their territorial integrity cannot be guaranteed by the international community.
      Back on topic of this video, I know I'm supposed to make a distinction between Russia the government and Russia the people but man, it's getting harder every day not to hate that whole country...

    • @human151
      @human151 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      George Barbăroşie I can't speak for the actions of the United States Government, except to say that president Obama is not one to "jump" into things very quickly.
      The fire is on and the water is simmering. It takes time to come to a boil.
      Military force is not the only way to hurt Russia because now, more than ever, they are so intwined with the world economy. It would be very easy for the United States to devastate the Russian Economy through sanctions and by freezing their banking.
      Also, a lot of investment into Russia comes from the west. Once sanctions are in place there will be no more investments. Once this begins to hurt the Wealthy Russians, they will make Putin Behave (most likely).

      Why does the west have to get involved in this at all? People seem to forget that Russia actually borders on Ukraine - and so however reprehensible their decision to forcibly take control of Crimea, they can at least say that what happens in Ukraine is important for Russian interests. The USA is 15,000km+ from Ukraine and has never previously been concerned with it before now, when there has suddenly emerged an opportunity to show its supremacy over Russia - and any other country that does not agree with the western political model.
      These pro-Russian protestors seem like a nasty group, but if indeed the referendum does show that Crimeans want to be part of Russia, it would be wholly wrong for the west to simply ignore the people's right to self determination. Just because the referendum isn't being organised by a NATO country shouldn't mean it is instantly invalid.

      To be honest and fair, the seperatists had some fair points at the start of this conflict, the repeal lanaguage law that never passed and they wanted more regional autonomy. Then buildings started getting taken over by people, war ensues. Really sad, Russian trolls here don't understand how they are wrong. War should of ended in August, but Russia...

    You people probably don't know what you are talking about. The city on this video is Donetsk and it is in Eastern Ukraine, not in Crimea. All the people there are citizens of Ukraine, one side (local majority) support integration with Russia, the others(who mostly came from Kiev and some western regions) - with the EU. There may be some ethnic russians, but most of them are eastern ukrainians.

    • @andymiller4196
      @andymiller4196 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You do realize it's all in the description of the video.
      "As Russia moves 10,000 troops to the Ukrainian border and Crimea prepares for a secession referendum, tension remains high all over Ukraine, especially in the East."
      "On the night of Thursday, March 13 VICE News reporter Robert King captured this scene on the streets of Donetsk, where a large group of pro-Russian activists attacked a group of pro-Ukrainian demonstrators calling for unity."

    • @normanvaughan6975

      Eastern Ukraine was on the maps as part of Russia at the beginning of the Soviet Union but someone (Khrushchev I think) moved that area into Soviet Ukraine for administrative reasons and the borders stuck that way at the end of the Soviet era. Interestingly the west which made up the whole of Ukraine at the time were pro Nazi and fought for the Germans in WWII, they were brutally recompensed by the red army when the area was recaptured.

      Go spread your lies elsewhere you stupid fu*k. Barely any real ukrainians support Russia after their move on Crimea. Since ~57% population of Donetsk are ukrainians and only ~39% of ppl there are ethnic russians, your statement of local majority supporting Russia's occupation is UTTER BULLSHIT. But I must admit you russians are doing great job spreading your propoganda on the internet. Either its youtube, CNN, popular blogs or whatever. Makes me wonder if you do it on own free will or do Cremlin support some of you by giving money for it? :)

      Raimonds Gedrovics I'm 1/2 ukrainian, my granddad is from Donetsk, I have a lot of relatives there, so I more or less know about what people think and want. My uncle is 100% ukrainian and he wants his region to become an independent republic or part of R.F. You don't get the point, Ukraine is not a united nation. Eastern ukrainians mostly speak russian, they have same culture and religion, and they were a part of Russian Empire for 300 years. Western Ukraine has great influence of Poland, they speak polonized ukrainian language and they are Catholic. East has economic ties with Russia, west with Poland. Current government in Kiev consists of representatives of only Western Ukraine, the first initiative of this government was cancellation of russian language as a second official in russian-speaking regions and cancellation of condemnation of Nazis warcrimes, some members of new government are members of neo-nazist groups and of course many people in the East do not like it.
      About money - why do you think I can't have my own opinion about the situation in the country that I love and know well?

    • @Morgot24
      @Morgot24 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Norman Vaughan East and West of Ukraine are very different - East is mostly pro-russian, russian-speaking and Orthodox, West is very polonized and Catholic. East has economic ties with Russia, west with Poland. They live in one state only since 1960-s and there are a lot of troubles in their relations. It is not so simple as it is usually shown in western media.

      вы твари это кто ??? Все мои предки воевали против немцев и в 1ой мировой и во 2ой, а рассеян предавших Родину было огромнейшее количество, это и власовцы, и донское казачество, кубанское, правнуки которых сейчас поддерживают уже российский шовинизм и называют таких как я нацистами. За что ??? Я не хочу ни в ЕС, ни жить с Россией, я хочу жить в своей единой Украине. Украина - должна быть цельным государством, она непосредственный наследник Киевской Руси, и Западная Украина, это та же Русь, вспомните Галицко-Волынское княжество. Я украинец, читаю, слушая музыку российских классиков, так же как и украинских, а теперь посмотрите на обдолбленные, пьяные лица своих рассейских патриотов с флагами орущих - Россия, россия..., ихняя культура - это водка, пиво, яга, сигареты, подраться и т.д. Я не хочу жить с такими людьми, мне с ними не попути, но похоже вы с ними одно поля ягоды, для вас история - это только ваш рассейский шовинизм, может вы сравниваете себя с атлантами и ариями, но в тех звериных лицах толпы ничего подобного я не увидел, история для вас - это быстроперевариваемый фастфуд, где думать не нужно, где уже всех поделили на хороших и плохих. Очень соменваюсь что ваше умственное развитие и ненавить к Украине позволит вам понять ход моих мыслей

    This is why I never went to the Occupy protests here in the States... (Even though the cops were beating the shit out of protesters and not other protesters, same difference in a way) I wouldn't be able to just sit there and take it. I'd fight back, fuck someone up and give the corporate media more ammunition... Still, there's that part of me that wishes I would've been there in the NYC when that fucking coward cop relentlessly pepper sprayed those defenseless women for no reason. I wouldn't have been able to contain my anger, and hey, maybe if somebody in that crowd would've just jacked that cop it would've made a difference... Injustice just pisses me off to no end, which ironically, is also why I am not a cop.

    If Russians activists try to protest anywhere in Kiev or western Ukraine they will have the same fate. The same if Jews try to do it in Egypt, Or Arabs in Israel, Taliban in states, or Americans in Afghanistan, All of mentioned possibilities are just sort of figure of speech, and what happened in the video is so common on our world. Most of people who made extreme comments using foul language and labeling would do the same to their opponents. So, what ever you said can be related to yourselves. It is sad, but it is the truth.

    Thank you Vice News for the courage of filming this in the epicenter and showing it how it really is. Hopefully the faces of those that committed these crimes against Ukraine will find their way into the tribunal one day. I wish for all all responsible to live long enough to experience the shame of being dragged into a courtroom in front of the entire world and then sentenced for life, regardless of age.

    Люди Донецка - мирные, но русский бронепоезд на границе. Сунетесь со своими порядками в чужой монастырь - не удивляйтесь, если вас там побьют. Попытаетесь задавить такие протесты силой, дубинками - помните, что Россия оставляет за собой право поработать лесником, который пришел и всех разогнал. На войне,как на войне. Не Россия первой начала, но Россия, возможно, все закончит.

    Nazis use Maydan-people. Russians against Nazism, and always were for friendship, instead of for slavish. All slaveholders suffered a defeat from Russians when wanted to take control of them. If you come to Russians with the weapon, you will die of that weapon. These Maydan-people brought the weapon and were dressed in guards, Donetsk guys with themselves didn't take anything. Why you didn't show here as provocations began?

      There is some good footage of protests and news about it if you search in Russian on TH-cam/Google, i found some videos that are like 30mins+ long raw footage of people being attacked on a bus with fireworks and bricks. And another video where you see some of them with guns shooting at some people dressed up like cops i think.
