❣DIY Mushroom House Using a Jar❣

- In this video I'm making a small mushroom house using a jar, some paper clay, and paint. It's a pretty straight forward project. No fancy tools, materials or even a glue gun. Just the clay, the jar and your hands. You can do this project literally anywhere, even in a garden like I'm doing right here.
I start by covering the jar with clay. I make the texture of the door as well as the holes for the windows while the clay is still wet. I also made the roof and placed it on top. Next I made the window frames and added some details like little mushrooms by the entrance and on the roof. I also modeled some moss as a base for the house. After the little house was dried I started painting it using watercolors and acrylics.
I also made a few other houses in the same method. You can make your own variation and have a small creative project for a Sunday afternoon

I’ve been watching you for a few years and I’ve wondered how these little homes have held up. Would you ever show some of the past ones that you made and how they look now? Like, what kind of changes you would make or which materials that you prefer?

I've made several of them and they hold up great, but I've never made one you could put outdoors. I wouldn't even know what the process is or if paper clay could ever be in the elements safely.

I’ve tried working outside on a few different projects. Either it got too hot, the wind blew my project around or bugs landed in the wet paint 😅😅😅😅😅

I've always loved your videos! I know you show these as being outside, but have you ever done something that is actually completely weatherproof? I'm pretty sure that the air dry clay isn't going to cut it unless it's sealed within an inch of it's life.
Very true! I would imagine if “garden furniture paint” was used or a sealer…that might help. Love to experiment with that myself ❤

Finally made one of my own little houses. 🥰 I had a lot of trouble with the clay cracking as it dried though. Do you have any special tips you follow to try to avoid that? Or has it not been an issue for you?
If your using air dry clay, you can use plaster of Paris to fill in the cracks, or as an alternative…. Mix the clay with small amounts of water until you reach a creamy texture and apply it over the area 🧚♂️
