    I just wanted to say I started watching MST3K back in 1996 when I was 11 years old. Never missed an episode. The years Mike hosted the show always were my favorites and to this day I still watch them as background because they’re so comforting. Having RiffTrax is like those happy, comforting feelings come back anew. Thank you so much for being a joyful constant in a chaotic world.

      I can kind of relate. My Uncle Ty showed me MST3K back in '93 when I was 10 years old. I understood more of the jokes as I got older and only loved them more. After a tough divorce in 2018, I watched every episode back to back over and again. Nearly every night I fall asleep to a MST3K episode or Rifftrax full movie. It's been a source of happiness and an unlikely anchor during times when mooring was hard to find.

    Wah Chang who made the dinosaurs for this film worked on the TV Series Star Trek, Outer limits and many movies. He worked with Gene at Projects Unlimited and was given little money and no time to build the dinosaurs for this film. They made hand puppets to save money on animation. The Tyrannosaurus armature was so rushed that it broke during the filming. You can see the problems in the film. Still, we 60's kids loved this movie. Animation versus big, tortured lizards. Wowed me when I 1st saw it.

    • @Tareltonlives
      @Tareltonlives 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Both involved the cheap but hard-working team of Wah Chang, Tim Baar, Gene Warren, Tom Holland, Phil Kellison and George Pal's son David. Chang and Warren ran the company :"Project Unlimited". Jim Danforth was part of the team as of Jack the giant Killer, but Dinosaurus came before it. Likewise the models for Dinosaurus were made by Marcel Delgado, sculptor of King Kong and the Lost World- he made awesome prototypes for the monsters Jack the Giant Killer but were rejected by the filmmakers.

    One of the first Rifftrax I purchased, as this film was a _huge_ part of my childhood. Re-watching it as an adult, the writers clearly had the idea for the ending fight first, and wrote the film to reach that point. It's easiy the best part of the movie (which isn't high praise but still)

    • @goldenagenut
      @goldenagenut 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Classic story writing tactic, come up with a good ending, then flesh out what happened before, leading to the already established ending. Most movies film the final scenes first, then go back and film the earlier scenes.

      @@goldenagenut you're right, but usually when writing a story with that tactic you want the entire thing to be interesting, not just the ending. That way your audience (readers, listeners, or viewers, depending on the medium) sticks around for your ending. Besides Dumpy and the Caveman this film does nothing interesting until the climactic fight imo
      Also the T-Rex growls totally sound like a small dog growling pitched down, and I somehow only just realized it re-watching the film last night during the premiere. I can't un-hear it now lol
      It's one of my favorite riffs too, always enjoy revisiting it

    I really like they way they portrayed the caveman as a normal human (oid) and not as a brutal unthinking beast like most movies back then. Just because he's a caveman doesn't mean he's a bad guy. He was the hero of the movie really. Their plans were actually pretty practical for the situation; retreat to the fort, make petrol bombs, fire moat, using heavy equipment. Despite it's campy cheesiness, it's a fun movie to watch.

I saw it 1st run in Bethlehem, PA and still have the Dell Comic. James Cameron also saw this movie as a kid. The story goes that Ripley's power loader fight was inspired by the Dinosaurus. Steam Shovel fight scene at the end.

    According to my parents, this was the Very First Film I ever saw in a cinema (my parents were sci-fi, fantasy, horror fans, et al, hence my being a fan of such genres as well).
    I've seen _Dinosaurus_ a few times on TV, but have no actual memory of seeing it on a big screen...

    In Aliens, Ripley takes on the Alien Queen in a space-forklift. Here, Dick Jawline takes on Dinosaurus in construction equipment. Any other examples of using Big Yellow Diesel to take on uncanny foes?

      If I remember correctly, the Roger Corman movie Carnosaur ends with a showdown between a dino and a bobcat (by that I mean a small-size motorized heavy-duty work vehicle, not a red lynx).

      I loved dinosaurs, monsters, dragons, and scaly beasts in general as a kid, so I watched this one, too. I had almost forgotten about it after all these years, so its nice to see that it was riffed by the masters of riffing. 😄
