My boyfriend who passed away a few weeks ago sang this song when we were at a bar doing karaoke one night. Since he sang it that night, I had been trying to figure out the name of it; I finally came across it tonight. The song has so much meaning to me. We were together for five years and were both young when he sung this song. Now I just watch the video of him in my phone when he sang this song that night at the bar, wishing he was still alive, wishing that we could go back in time to when we were young. R.I.P. Chris, I'll always love you.

This is one of my all-time favorite videos. The Mexican actors are the beautiful Sonia Couoh and Gustavo Sánchez Parra. The video was filmed in Tlayacapan, Morelos, Mexico.

same thing here buddy ..i used to play guitar hero with friends when i was back in high school and i tell ya i wish everything was the way everything was..listening to this tune brings me memories that i wish i could have a second chance to RE live but it's impossible and this song reminds me of this every day
I am really proud to know Tlayacapan, Morelos , Mexico. I used to live in that wonderful placer but not anymore AND i love the killers AND their music.
This is absolutely THE most poignant and captivating video for a song I have ever seen. She doesn’t speak a word, but her body and especially her eyes tell you her joy, her pain, and at the cross, she is asking “why?” when he is holding her. And yes, she is beautiful.
dont even really like this band anymore, ive moved on to more esoteric sounds but it does too.... guess its cause this is what i grew up with, a time when the world seemed like it was full of hope.
This video was filmed in Mexico, in the state of Morelos, where's a magic town called Tlayacapan wich has a lot of history and you know what??... I'm Mexican and i live in the state of Morelos. Proud of it!!! ❤️✌🏻
The Killers has so much emotion in their music. I'm not sure if it's the voice, or the coherence of everything. Maybe it's just the nostalgia of literally everyone
It's because Brandon Flowers was a tormented Mormon at the time. The dude was practically on fire, he was so conflicted. Add that to the fact that the band only makes Springsteen synth anthems, and you got a recipe for emotional overload (never a bad thing with these types of songs).
Mormons have been persecuted since the days of early Free Masonry in America. Joseph Smith jacked some shit, and made a religion with polygamy... don't you get it? Quit belittling their plight, they live in FUCKING Utah.
I'm 51 and this song still speaks to me and has me fired up. Every age is a great experience or can be. All of our choices and the consequences that come with those, good or bad, are what makes us who we are. Embrace that! Keep on keeping on ☺
Every now and then you’ll run across a song, and through the years, in different times and life circumstances, it still speaks to you- this is on of those songs.
“They say the devils water, it ain’t so sweet, you don’t have to drink right now, but you can dip your feet every once in a while” Is probably my favorite Killers line.
The girl who catches them cheating is especially awesome. I wonder if she's gotten a lot of work because of this video. Hell, she might already be huge in Mexico.
Carlito 97 You are still young!!! I just turned 30, so believe me- I know. The shit part of life is- is that you never know how young you are or were til you're too old to appreciate it. So go do crazy things and be young and enjoy your life!!! Just don't be TOO crazy

If you seriously think music like this doesn’t exist anymore it speaks more to your ignorance when it comes to music. Get out of your pop culture bubble and you’ll find music “like this”
When guitar hero brought me to this song, it got alot of laughter to me, me and my friend used to sing "he doesnt look a thing like jesus" and giggle at school, but i also loved to sing this song all the time. its nice to find back to it ,some music never die

It's such a beautiful thing that they decided on Mexico for the theme. Everyone who hears this song will forever think of this music video....Viva Mexico...Viva Los Killers....
It took me some years to really discover what this video meant.. The guy cheats, and the video goes in reverse. From him searching for her after she left, to him being caught cheating, to them marrying, to him checking her out, to her getting hired by him and meeting him the first time making the other bar chick jealous. Wonderfully created.
Yes. I think she feels like her life is ruined because she was betrayed by the man she gave herself (her virginity) to. She obviously takes her wedding vows a lot more seriously than her husband, & likely thinks she would rather commit suicide than bear the pain & the shame she feels.
Heather Loughlin I mean, I would like to think that him taking her virginity, which may not even be true, wouldn't be why she would feel so hurt. I consider cheating to be a complete betrayal of trust, and i could imagine that it would be unspeakably painful to experience having the one you love be with somebody else behind your back.
camiless Yes, and in fact, there's an alternate video which actually shows her jumping off the cliff instead of reconciling with her husband (everything else is the same).
I was like 8 or 9 when it came out and i loved the melody but didn’t understand the lyrics. Now, 15 years later it’s my absolute favourite song but i also know the meaning of these lyrics and the sadness behind.
Dude I’m 22 now, I was a kid when this came out. I first saw this video on Rage one morning and it was such a memorable moment. It’s crazy to think it’s been so long. I missed out on the opportunity to see them live in Melbourne with my dad when I was 15 and it’s something I’ll regret forever
Imagine what folks say about 150 year old classical music. If you are shocked that 15 years hasn't aged a song you are under 20 or just silly. Open your eyes and try to grasp the concept that good music transcends time.
Almost 30 years old and this song hits hard. Reminds me of all the good times I had growing up and all the people I went to school with and hung out with. I have no clue what most of them are up to these days. Fucking sad. We spent all them years growing up together and now we don’t even talk.
I remember listening to it when it came out in 2006 I hated it at the time because of all the radio play It got annoying but now some times past I can appreciate a bit more
I would not say this ranks in the Pantheon of the greatest songs ever, but you are correct, it is sorely underrated. Lyrically it sums up what 98% of all people feel when it comes to the turmoils of realizing the fantasy you have created regarding love, were just that, fantasy.
john baldwin Led Zeppelin was hardly nominated for any awards during their time. They had one grammy nom for best new artist in '70 but lost to CS&N. Every other award for them has been from 1990 and later, 10+ years after Bonzo's death. Not saying the Killers are as revolutionary as Zep, but the Killers are so underrated for their era. Definitely in my top 5 most important bands of the past 10 years. It seems that most critics just support popular, mainstream music that sells today, and not the actual music that is actually good and influential - new, unique. Give it time, they'll get all their proper recognition.
The Killers imo are underrated but that's what makes them awesome. Sick of all the mainstream crap out there so I'm glad the Killers are still under the radar for most because most of these bands are turned into zombies by the labels to keep releasing radio hits. Shame really because bands like that usually don't last very long and lose most of their loyal followers.
+Nick Please italy had 150k immigrants this year only But me and many others will Welcome them because they are not going away from home family and The places they love just to mess with us, grow up
I was 18 when this was released. I was a kid and never had experienced relationships or heartbreak. I’m 37 now and I finally understand this song and video.
This song and video make me think about all the suffering we experience in our lives. I sit here wishing life could be easier for us, and remember that so many people in history have gone through worse pain than most of us can imagine. How lucky we are to be alive and feel sorry for ourselves.
This band was the soundtrack to my childhood. Friday Night SmackDown, PS3, junk food, Christmas, etc. All these things, “precious memories take me back to the good old days”.
My bestfriend since Elementary loved these guys, an before he died we let him use out iTunes to buy music and these guys stuck with me since forever. All the memories of us before getting old are hitting me hard as hell but I can swallow my pride, I miss that guy as he's been at rest 4 almost 8 years but I know he's watching over me, that's my bestfriend 4 life!
This use to play in the mornings on MTV. It will always remind me of when I would get ready for school. This song is unforgettable it’s very deep and beautiful.
@Hunter Vonnegut If we are just promoting the bands of our friends in here, if you don't like this guy's suggestion, go and check Naryan, it's a finnish melancholic rock band.
I miss him more than anything he would play it and it kills me now listening to it. His sisters name was Marlene as well and when I saw it killed me so bad. I just wanna kiss him and hold him.
Like Killers videos because they are about real emotions everyone has. Not the fantasy videos of unreal situations in nothing anyone will ever experience like most unreal. Real is real, and best.
it's weird I thought the killers were a band you grew out of but going through their stuff it stands up over time, hell I like it now more then I did when... I... was... young...
can you read my mind? it really does make you feel like you'll grow out... but its been here with me for a long time and I haven't grown out of it for reasons unknown I honestly like the way that it was before 2016 n stuff but I don't wanna runaway from them still this reply sucks but I needed to do it
When i was young around 11 years old my dad used to play this song at my home, we used to sing together. I know all the songs from the killers, I’m a big fan. Now, I’m 20 years old I have my family and husband, I’m not with my dad anymore, he is so far away. When I hear this song is like home when I was young. I will put the killers to my 1 year old baby of course. ❤️
This is so sweet. Congratulations on having your own family. It's normal to feel homesick for the people you love when you are far away from them, especially with the pandemic and everything. But I am sure he will always be a phone call away and he misses you just like you miss him. Always keep those special memories of him alive by sharing them with your daughter. Since he's far away she will get to know him through you and your stories. I am sure you have a long and beautiful life ahead of you. I wish you nothing but the best. Much love to you! ❤️
Aw when i have a child before he or she is ever born and is in me then I’m going to play this song. I love it so much. It reminds me of the guy I like. 😊 when he sings, “talks like a gentleman when you were young”
In like 2005 when I’d leave the tv on VH1 before goin to bed after watchin Jersey Shore or somethin, I’d wake up to this song and legit cry. Still so sentimental and beautiful today. Idek why I was cryin then tho, I was in 5th grade.
Maybe my favorite The Killers song ever. I think this period in their evolution was really special. Their brand of heartland rock so well defined and poetic touching cue in most of our brains that we latch our own personal, often heartbreaking, stories to. Absolutely love this song and video.
Nostalgia has been killing me lately. If only God would let me relieve those moments I would hold them so close and never let them go. 2000s were magical.
My late brother, who died 3 weeks ago, always hummed this song when we went out fishing together. We’d sit on the lake at sunrise, and he'd tell me stories about all the 'big ones' he'd caught or nearly caught, even though I think he made half of them up just to make me laugh. Anyway, he was the greatest fisherman of this generation; I will always remember him when When You Were Young plays. He was never down, always up... always casting out one more line, hoping for one more catch. Miss you, brother.

This is absolutely THE most poignant and captivating video for a song I have ever seen. She doesn’t speak a word, but her body and especially her eyes tell you her joy, her pain, and at the cross, she is asking “why?” when he is holding her. And yes, she is beautiful.
Desiree Coad yup..the silence is defoning..an expression can tell a thousand words

This makes me so emotional for some reason. I used to really love this song when I was young. (the title is fitting haha)
This song plays touches a part of our childhood, if you listened to it at that time. (Hence the title) 😭
The Killers has so much emotion in their music. I'm not sure if it's the voice, or the coherence of everything. Maybe it's just the nostalgia of literally everyone
lol
It's because Brandon Flowers was a tormented Mormon at the time. The dude was practically on fire, he was so conflicted. Add that to the fact that the band only makes Springsteen synth anthems, and you got a recipe for emotional overload (never a bad thing with these types of songs).
Mormons have been persecuted since the days of early Free Masonry in America. Joseph Smith jacked some shit, and made a religion with polygamy... don't you get it? Quit belittling their plight, they live in FUCKING Utah.

@@clvrswineWell, aren't you just a ray of sunshine?
It took me some years to really discover what this video meant..
The guy cheats, and the video goes in reverse. From him searching for her after she left, to him being caught cheating, to them marrying, to him checking her out, to her getting hired by him and meeting him the first time making the other bar chick jealous.
Wonderfully created.
DaveSincere was she trying to suicide in the begning of the video?
Yes. I think she feels like her life is ruined because she was betrayed by the man she gave herself (her virginity) to. She obviously takes her wedding vows a lot more seriously than her husband, & likely thinks she would rather commit suicide than bear the pain & the shame she feels.
damn i always thought they got back together in the end. this shed some light. i was fine living in the lie.
This song hit differently when you finally understand the lyrics

Imagine what folks say about 150 year old classical music. If you are shocked that 15 years hasn't aged a song you are under 20 or just silly. Open your eyes and try to grasp the concept that good music transcends time.
Almost 30 years old and this song hits hard. Reminds me of all the good times I had growing up and all the people I went to school with and hung out with. I have no clue what most of them are up to these days. Fucking sad. We spent all them years growing up together and now we don’t even talk.

Am I only person who thinks this song is ridiculously underrated? I am biased though, it is my favourite song. But seriously! What a song!!!
I would not say this ranks in the Pantheon of the greatest songs ever, but you are correct, it is sorely underrated. Lyrically it sums up what 98% of all people feel when it comes to the turmoils of realizing the fantasy you have created regarding love, were just that, fantasy.
Uh...A rich and varied diet, trying never to dine on crow.
***** Critically I mean, wasn't well acclaimed (along with the album) and didn't receive many awards
john baldwin Led Zeppelin was hardly nominated for any awards during their time.

Maybe my favorite The Killers song ever. I think this period in their evolution was really special. Their brand of heartland rock so well defined and poetic touching cue in most of our brains that we latch our own personal, often heartbreaking, stories to. Absolutely love this song and video.

Lyrics:
You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now, here he comes
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentlemen
Like you imagined when you were young
Can we climb this mountain?
I don't know
Higher now than ever before
I know we can make it if we take it slow
Let's take it easy
Easy now, watch it go
We're burning down the highway skyline
On the back of a hurricane that started turning
When you were young
When you were young
And sometimes you close your eyes
And see the place where you used to live
When you were young
They say the devil's water, it ain't so sweet
You don't have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while
You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
