    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a lot of things to consider, such as what the laptop is doing and what the battery level is like.
      For example, if you're just using a browser and not pushing the laptop, it won't need to draw many watts. If you're playing a game, you'll draw more (generally speaking).
      If you buy a power meter, you'll be able to see how it goes up and down.

    I tried the surface pro usb C cable with Baseus 60W usb c charger. There seems to be a grounding issue when I try to use the touchpad when having the USB C charger plugged in. I bought this for my job and needed to charge it in the vehicle with a power bank. When I bought it, the guy gave me a Cygnet 30W PD Charger, Type C to surface cable and car charger which was only 20W. Obviously it wasn't sufficient and would even charge the device although it took me a while to realise (but while still under warranty). I went into the same place last week and they made me buy a 60W output Cygnett which should technically charge the device as Microsoft state that it need to be more than 45W, at least 60W for Surface Pro 6 and for optimal charge over 90W. Well..... it does not charge it either. So I'm stuck not being able to charge out in the field and I can pretty much guarantee that they won't refund that one either even after paying extra for a warranty and them stating that it would work,(just like they said the 30W one would).
    Do you know why I cannot find a PD charger that will charge these machines? It's ridiculous paying that sort of money for a portable touch pad that technicaly is not portable. Any advice and help is appreciated.
    Have you ever been told of any PD charger that will actually work for this machine?
    Cheers from Australia

    I have been looking for one that could have multiple Surface Pro's connected through either an USB or USB-c cable due to placing, electric sockets and the like.
    IS there one? I saw on J-pro tech that there is one with 2 USB-c and 3 USB connections.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting review. I thought the official charger also had a USB port for charging on the brick? Will be interesting to see if the next update to the Surface Pro will ditch the magnetic charger for USB C or Thunderbolt 3 and then you have the ability to transfer data and files, connect to monitors or GPU and charge the device all from the same port. Or if like the Surface Go will retain the mag charger and include the USB C as a separate port. Just a question about the micro SD slot in the back, is this just for use as expandable memory or can you put a SD card in from a camera or GoPro and transfer files? Looking forward to your video editing video and longer term review.

  • @OldAndGettingOlder
    @OldAndGettingOlder 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Title is 100% misleading. You're not powering with USB C. When one says "power with", one is speaking about the port the power comes out of and plugs into. You're still powering the device with the Surface connector, not USB C. This said, this power setup had its advantages, but you're definitely not powering/charging the device with USB C.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree. The connection to the adaptor is type C, not type A. Plus, bear in mind that when this video was published, no Surface device had a type C connection on the laptop itself.

    • @OldAndGettingOlder
      @OldAndGettingOlder 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KevinMuldoon my SP7 has USB C and it can't be powered through it. This is my point. Where power is connected to the device (input) is the kind of power. You can't power a Surface with USB C...yet. When you can it will not be reverse compatible. You're just adapting USB C power output to a Surface connector. The title of your video is misleading.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This video was published in May 2019, five months before the Surface Pro 7 was released.
      When this was published, we had no idea if type C ports would be added to future Surface devices and whether charging via type c would be possible.
      There was absolutely no confusion as to what this video was about when it was released.
      There shouldn't be any confusion now either. Look at the video thumbnail that has been there since day one. It literally shows a type c connector in one hand and a surface connector in the other hand.
      There's nothing misleading here. You've just misinterpreted the video.
      Anyways, got to disagree with you here.

    • @OldAndGettingOlder
      @OldAndGettingOlder 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KevinMuldoon it's the title, not the thumbnail. Charge Your Surface Pro With [A] Type C [Charger] would be an accurate title.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You've misinterpreted the title.
      Here's the thing.
      Type C doesn't really mean anything when it comes to power. There's no one standard so saying it's powered by type C is wrong. Type C is the connector at the end of the cable. Nothing more.
      I've got over a dozen type c cables.I have some for led lights and cameras that only provide 1amp of power, but cannot power my phone. I have smartphone cables from two years ago that don't charge my new phone fast enough. I have thunderbolt 3 power cables that support different wattage values. I have smartphone cables that shouldn't be able to charge my laptop, but actually have enough power to do so if matched with a good power delivery adaptor. I even have type c to 3.5mm adapter cables that don't provide any power. You can also buy type c to HDMI and type c to displayport cables.
      So when you say something is powered by type C, what are you really saying? Are you saying one specific end is type c, both ends? Are you talking about a minimum number of watts that are delivered?
      The cable I reviewed was a type C to Surface connector cable and I stand by the fact you're charging by type C as it can be plugged into a type c power delivery adapter.
