It would be hard with work pieces this long, but the best mill scale removal I have used is a 12 hr vinegar bath. Maybe you could do that with a PVC pipe a little longer than the work pieces? After a 12 hr soak, what is left of the mill scale just comes off with the wipe of a towel. It's amazing.
Great job. Great presentation. I wavered on wood vs metal build on mine, probably would have chosen metal had this video been around. You explain so many of the questions I had, and for me more importantly, SHOW the solutions to what I was curious about. Mine’s been done and I still love watching Build videos. Great work!
That is looking really nice. Maybe I would have made the body wider so the wheel fenders would not stick outside the body, giving a little more storage space?
Thanks Andy! I thought about doing that. In the end I didn’t want to deal with that many more corners for possible water intrusion and also made the frame design very simple! All while still fitting a full size bed no issues

Hey, awesome videos mate, trailer looks awesome. How’s the aluminium holding up a few years later? Does it dent/scratch easily? I’m trying to decide whether to go with that or the other composite panels.
Next time change the order of panel installation to better shed water to the outside. Side panels Front and rear lower then upper Top last that little bit of overhang sheds water rather than catching it. Your overall concept and design is excellent.
This has been an awesome video series! Thanks for all the great information. I just finished welding up my trailer base based on part 1 you’ve posted here.
Very innovative build dude….You have a year on the trailer now…..any updates as far as problems , concerns or just things you would do differently. the tape holding things together I guess is my greatest curiosity.
No problems what so ever! It’s been doing great. I’d consider either moving the axle back just a hair to help with tongue weight or making sure you always have some sort of load in front of the camper box itself to help. It can seem a bit light on tongue weight without a bike on the carrier
Love the progress so far keep up the great work brother and using the double sided tape was new for me what im used to is using construction adhesive for the panels but I will make sure to try it out in the future
When welding your side frames on did you weld them flush with the outside edge of the main frame or did you recess them in the .125 distance so the aluminum composite sat flush with the edge of the main frame?
I bought a home built micro camper from someone but he used plywood I have been looking for a different material I am probably going to use that composite sheet, thank you.

I have looked at the trailer build and it's got some decently wide spacing between the various cross members and so I was wondering if that material is rigid enough. I did catch on the video some flex as you walk on the floor. around 19:27 you can see some flex with light reflection (still wearing crocs I see while fabricating with metal.... bold move.... LOL). Hey man!! Thanks for watching! Really appreciate the support it’s people like you that keep me moving forward making more videos! The panel does flex a tad on the floor. Once we I add the insulation board and the engineered flooring it should make it considerably stronger! Adding more supports would not hurt at all. Maybe something I would have done differently 👍🏼 it’s a learning process on every build and yes the crocs have been with me almost every step of the way 😂😂
@@Adv4x4 ah! That makes sense in regards to the rigidity once insulation and flooring is in place. I actually really like the idea of the composite!! Water tight and lighter than wood! Looking at building one with your plans i just bought. What is the weight overall? Planning on towing it with my rav 4 trail that is rated for 3500lbs? Thanks and great video series
How would you approach using ACM sheets on areas, (the bottom for example), that are larger than the sheet itself? Let’s say the trailer is 6ft wide, could you just use two 3ft wide pieces and join them over the trailer spine with VHB tape and sealant? Do you think this would be enough to keep leaks from happening? I talked to Piedmont today and they have the 3mm 5x10 locally for $153 a sheet. Thanks!
I chose to avoid having any seams for this exact reason haha. I’m sure you could find a way to seal it up but I preferred to not go that route! Same reason I made the box 48” tall, made the side walls very simple with 4x8 sheet!
What’s the approx cost of raw metal for this build? Composite panels? And what do you suspect the approx R-value (insulation) of the trailer? Amazing build BTW…
Thank you! About $500 in metal & also $500 in panels! As far as the r value goes I’m not sure about that just yet until I go pick up my 3/4” insulation board! Either way high R Value isn’t a huge concern for me because it will be far more insulated then a tent as is haha.

Thank you! So typically I always end up with the driver side of my truck facing the fire pit and wanted to do the same for the camper. I thought about adding a door each side but the cost of the doors steered me away from that haha
Are your walls flush with the bottom frame? Or did you inset it a little so that the ACM would be flush to the bottom frame? Or did the ACM extend a little past the bottom frame?
The skeleton of the frame is flush with the outside edge of the frame. The ACM sits on top so yes it does sit out a hair further then the main frame itself
Thank you sir! I appreciate it. I’m not 100% sure I’m time estimate as I worked on it in my spare time after work. But I’d say I have 60+ hours in the build forsure!

I know I'm getting old because of the way I think . When I'm camping miles and miles away from civilization I'm thinking I need PROTECTION ! Wild animals , two legged criminals abound in the woods these days . I want to feel safe , and if that means a HEAVY camper with THICK walls so be it ! Otherwise I might as well sleep in a TENT ! Call me an old fouggy , any day ! 👀
Thank you sir! The tight space definitely adds some interesting obstacles when building something like this. Either way, thankful to have some garage instead of no garage! My next house will have a LARGE garage! 😂

Another question popped in my mind after re-watching the video (I'll probably watch it and all the other ones a few more times....) Are you doing any sort of Galley/kitchen? I don't see you preparing for an opening or anything like that in the back ?? you are not discussing this at all so I am curious? Thanks
Hey man!! Nope I am not doing a galley of any sorts! My truck has a full tailgate plus a swing out with a fold down table so all the cooking is done there! I wanted maximum interior space. I will be doing some shelving in the rear of trailer for inside storage👌🏼
@@Adv4x4 makes a lot of sense. my LX470 has drawers and kitchen as well in it so now that I think about it, keeping the entire space for sleeping/living makes sense, especially since I would probably use this trailer as a base camp (between day or even overnight trip since I can sleep in the rig comfortably as well) and would always have the rig as a kitchen! set the trailer, unhook and go explore, come back and have a nice big space to sleep in...
Question, I want to do a very similar build except I’d be adding a pop top tent to expand the inner ceiling space and add a top bunk for my two kids. With that being said, do you think 3/4” square tubing is still sufficient enough strength?
I believe it would be sufficient if it’s structured in a manner to support it! Maybe add some extra diagonal bracing & be thoughtful of where the load will be resting as you build it
Would those panels allow for a partial cut through so that you’d be able to bend it for a 45 degree bend? I was wondering if that would have allowed you to have a continuous edge on the front end of the trailer. Overall, impressive build and great attention to detail. Looking forward to the next episode.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Yes that could work! But the only problem there is available sheet length. If I were to do that to the two front edges then the sheet would end somewhere in the middle of the front flat surface
@@Adv4x4 It's all compromises. I was figuring that first seam would be your penetration point for water so having one continuous piece for the that front edge might be better. I've not used that corrugated aluminum sheets yet so I don't how easy it'd be. It may be hard to get the bend to be perfect so doing it your way was probably a better approach. Once I'm finished with my Wagon, I'm planning on building a wedge roof-top tent. Good luck on the rest of your build.
Nothing special just a barrel/cylinder shaped one with a roller bearing on the bottom that keeps your cuts flush to the surface you are matching. Came in a large bit kit off Amazon. Worked great
Nice Build Concept, however be very carefull of using ALUPANEL, DIEBOND or whatever architectural panel, bonded to steel or Aluminum frame, as it will conduct temperature and moisture built up inside, and you will see the moisture, outlined by the tubing. This is wholy dependant on outside temp, and moisture contenet inside. Also the finish on these panels is not very durable, expensive also.
I looked on that website for price on those panels. Did you special order yours? What size are they? This is definitely a better route than plywood which is what I’ve been thinking on but can’t quite pull the trigger.
Yessir I do! Currently only have the trailer frame plans available but hopefully will have the camper body plans available end of the week! www.adv4x4.us/store-1-1/p/micro-camper-trailer-frame-blueprints
I’m so impressed, fam. I’m going to send you a couple design ideas that may help with production value. Keep up the great work. I need to hit the bell on this 🔔
@@Adv4x4 Did you call Piedmont Plastics and custom order the lengths/widths for your build? I am not having luck finding ACM sheets on their website anywhere near the size you use?
I searched “where to buy aluminum composite paneling Virginia” and wrote down all the info for some of the places that said they carried it. Then called them one by one for pricing and availability
Only had condensation the one night we ran a propane heater for a little in there! I have since made a diesel heater to combat that (latest video on the channel) other then that we try to always sleep with windows open or fan on!
@@Adv4x4 that's nice! I always wonder what happens in smaller confined spaces, especially in camper builds. It takes a lot of engineering and vapour barriers to make a construction well equipped against internal condensation, resulting in mould and such. Seems like you have that figured out pretty well
@@Adv4x4 oh and by the way, do you have a Co meter in there? A diesel heater exhaust can be pretty dangerous. They're really cheap, and life is precious. Take care!

Maybe add some extra diagonal bracing & be thoughtful of where the load will be resting as you build it
@@Adv4x4 Thank you!
where did u get the siding roofing and flooring... flat sheeting at??
Everything is linked in Description!
Nice 👌🏽
Thanks man!

Thank you! Goodluck on your builds as well!
What type of router bit did you use for the acm panel?
They come in 4’x8’ and 5’x10’ you have to call to get a quote and they also have to be picked up from their location!
How’d you order the big sheets? On the website I just see standard sizes
I had to call and order. Then go pick them up from the distributor.
Great job, What do you think the cost of building this less your cost of tools and your time?
I have been keeping track of purchases I will add them up at the end and do a cost breakdown video for everyone!
@@Adv4x4 Awesome!
What is the official name of the material you used for the wall I’d rather use that than wood?
ACM panel. Everything is linked in the description!
I sold my travel trailer last year, would love to build something like this! Do you sell plans?
Yessir I do! Currently only have the trailer frame plans available but hopefully will have the camper body plans available end of the week!

I’m so impressed, fam. I’m going to send you a couple design ideas that may help with production value.
Keep up the great work. I need to hit the bell on this 🔔
Thanks Patrick!! Appreciate you coming over here to the channel to checkout what I got goin on man means a lot!!
14:21 What kind of 3M VHB tape did you use?
I followed your amazon line - it is VHB 5952 Thanks
What’s the thickness of the ACM? 3mm or 6mm
3mm!
What size tires you running?
265/70/17 falken Wildpeak
Do you have a coat breakdown?
Cost*** great build!
Even just a total spent,
I do! Check the channel!
I love the build! What did the ACM board cost for this build?
Thank you! About $500 for all the composite sheets
@@Adv4x4 Did you call Piedmont Plastics and custom order the lengths/widths for your build? I am not having luck finding ACM sheets on their website anywhere near the size you use?
Yes I called them and ordered two 4x8 and three 5x8. All 3mm thick aluminum composite. Then just went and picked them up!
Where does one but the AL composite panels? My search’s only find small size panels
Likely Have to find a supplier that you can physically go pick up from. Sign shops might be able to help you out with that as well.
I searched “where to buy aluminum composite paneling Virginia” and wrote down all the info for some of the places that said they carried it. Then called them one by one for pricing and availability
Awesome video! How has condensation been so far?
Take care!
We will add one before we put it to use! I agree it’s cheap insurance 👍🏼
Is wood frame better?
I think both methods are great ways to build one! Really comes down to your skill set in the end. I only chose metal so I never have to worry about wood rot
@@Adv4x4 make sense, welding always makes me nervous😂

What’s your total cost so far?
I’ve been keeping track of items I’ve bought but haven’t added anything up yet. I will do a complete cost breakdown video once the build is completed!
