The guy knows enough about electronics to kit out a recording studio and build his own amps, I'm pretty sure he could run-up an air conditioner if he FELT LIKE IT but probably is content to let corporate structures do what they should be doing and SERVE US rather than dictating our cultural landscape, which some corporate entities seem hell-bent on doing just in order to make more bucks rather than improving our lives which S. Albini does pretty well in his own way.
"this is really fantastic experience being here tonight. This show rappresent a triumph of normal people over businessman, social manovers, celebrities and politicians. This evening is a triumph, is a reconitioneph of how fondamentaly right normal people are. The average marriage lasts seven years. The average government lasts four year. The life spend of a dog lasts fourteen years. Next year, two years from now, your.... ????...disappears, nothing it lasts forever except the Ex. Because they are better than love, they are better than money, they are better than politics and they are better than animals." Can someone help me to write the entire sentences? Thanks.
"This is a, uh, really fantastic experience, being here tonight. It's really- (applause) This, this show represents a triumph of normal people over businessmen and over social manoeuvres and celebrities and politicians... this evening is a- a triumph- it's a recognition of how fundamentally right normal people are(applause). The average marriage lasts seven years. The average government lasts four years(applause). The lifespan of a dog is fourteen years. Next year... two years from now, European currencies will all disappear. Nothing lasts forever except The Ex(applause). Because they are better than love, they are better than money, they are better than politics, and they are better than animals."
The festival is called The Ex, but when Albini says, "nothing lasts forever except the ex," it's a play on words about ex boy/girlfriends, ex businessmen, expatriates, etc... Nothing lasts forever except what once was. Memories don't go away.
@chunkhutchinson 'The Billiard Player Song', it's on the B side of the 'Uranus' 7", with 'The Admiral' as the A side. It's just a crying shame the video fades halfway through, there's another good 3 minutes not filmed there. Also as it's such a good recording. The full footage must be out there SOMEWHERE, right?
@mangouldbarrington1 Its "Billiard Player Song" from The Rude Gesture: A Pictorial History. But there is a better version called "Billiardspielerlied" off of the 7 inch of the same name. "Billiardspielerlied" is a live version but I think its way better as most Shellac stuff is methinks.
dear kriXtof ...i also shot this show (the whole show) but do you have more good audio recordings like this...so i could sync them up ! please let me know...do you have an email ???
Alright, alright, we get your point, office workers suffer too. Nobody cares, though, unless A. you make good music. B. you've got a sense of humour. C. your name isJesus
The Shellac singles: 'Uranus' and 'The Rude Gesture' are the best sound quality Albini has ever recorded. The recordings are super clear and precise. On another note 'At Action Park' is still by far the best full length. I feel they sounded too influenced by 'Tortoise' at times, later on. Shellac should never be mellow.
i really like this song, i think is one of my favorites, so dont get my wrong but WHO CARES ABOUT SHELLAC?! why dont we have THEEX footage of this show, can anyone please upload some! the world needs it. mister uploader, you would make a lot of people very very happy if you could show us some of the theex stuff from that sweet gig.
I'd like to see Albini do what he does without the "corporate structure" that allows him to live a modern comfortable life. I'm pretty sure some corporation built the air conditioner that keeps his studio gear nice and cool.
Is this a motivational seminar? Nothing about this is unique or against the grain. It sounds like a million 90s pop punk/emo acts on mainstream radio then. Maybe if you repeat how unique you are enuff it comes true...idk never tried that myself. I believe that; if one is truly so unique and off the wall theres no need to state it publicly. Ppl will know from you or your music if thats the case or not.
Best Shellac video ever. RIP Steve
They have a fantastic drummer!!!!
Thanks Steve. For all.
RIP
"The Ex" is a netherland band of more than twenty years of existence with lot of albums and projects ...

IMHO shellac are one of the best sounding bands ever, whether you like their music or not.
The billiard player song is probably my favorite shellac song
Amazing performance! saw them back in the 90's a few times and reminds me a lot of those shows, great punk diy vibe and all the rest that is real :p

How the hell does steve get that weed whacker type sound with his guitar?
harmonic percolator and aluminum neck guitar and these traynor rare amp, i guess.
+Analogmp3 what that guy said but ive got a percolator and a jazzmaster and its close enough
+Alexis Ocampo Bob uses a Traynor, Steve has a 67 Bassman inside that metal cabinet. Traynor's aren't rare at all, they're all over here.
Albini shuts up at 1:14.
