    I’ve lived in west TX my whole life, I recently found out we have a Texan accent 😅 my son’s online friend from the east coast told my son that he has a TX accent, I honestly never realized it until now, I told my husband about it and he said yeah it’s the dropping of letters at the end like what you mentioned “walkin” and how we put all our sentences together 😂 walkinmadog. When you live here all your life I guess you never realize it 😊❤

    Hi.
    I just learn English in Hungary. I use it all day, but only in written. Somebody shared your video in FB, in an English school-s group.
    Your videos are the first what I can understand perfectly without any dictionary. Or words what I not understand, you explain fine. Talking speed is good for beginners to understand too.
    In most videos people talking too fast for beginners.
    Also you choose topics well.
    I would like to see more videos like the "rest area" was.
    It was not only practical, but easier to pay attention because you are in a real place what are you talking about.
    Thank you! :-)

    Lifelong Houstonian here, really enjoyed this video. Your speech pattern is a soothing pace, reminds me of Mr. Rogers. I'm 52 and have never said "howdy" outside of a joking manner. I said "guys" more than "y'all" until a few decades ago. Dropping the g as in "fixin' ta" = "fixing to" as in "preparing to".

    We are from bavaria (Germany). I am follower number 280 and my buddies are follower number 281 to 283. We find your videos very helpful and great. I was in Texas in 1989 for tree weeks. Dallas to Chopus Christi - Aransas Pass. My uncle lived there. I visited the Alamo and Luckenbach and the German area Friedricksburg, and a bar at Bandera, El Paso and Laredo, Austin and so on. I lost my heart on the lone star state. In Germany I am a driver on a semitrailer. You know : truck drivers are the move of the nation. "How-ya doin'" or "Howz-it goin'" is more common than "howdy". Tonight is more like "t'nignt" dropping the "o" . I never thought about other Americans not saying "yeah" or "uh huh" as a reply meaning "Yes, I heard you". "Ain't" is a lot like "howdy", rarely hear it unless someone is being sassy/slang though I'm from Houston where "ain't" is considered uneducated. I love that you included pissed off. 😂 Also include "tell off" as angry.

    Howdy! Remember me? I have some questions regarding Texas accent/slang. What does 'dagger fries' means? And is it true that 'place' is "an undefined parcel of property often preceded by a proper noun to provide definition, as in 'the Johnson place'. Not to be confused with the English slang "place" meaning residence, as in 'my place' or 'your place'." I would be so thankful if you can help me! :)

    • @greadore
      @greadore 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Howdy! To be honest, I have not heard of the expression "dagger fries". It could be something used in a specific part of the country or state. Where did you hear or see this expression used or referenced? Yes, we do use place in the format you reference, like "the Johnson place", although it isn't used by all or lot of people. It is more of an informal saying and used more in the countryside or small rural cities. The phrase "the Johnson place" signifies "the Johnson homestead" or the land and houses where the Johnson family lives or lived. Hope that helps!

    No self respecting Texan will shape his hat like that and we DON'T say yee-haw!

    Just for your information not all Texan’s have a southern accent, own several firearms, drive a pickup truck, walk around with a cowboy hat and chew tobacco. There are lots of Texans who live in the larger cities who are nothing like this.
