- Today, less than 5% of medical images show dark skin. This lack of representation has potential to negatively affect the quality of healthcare for BIPOC communities.
Illustrate Change is a new initiative that aims to increase diversity and representation in medical illustrations. The initiative includes a growing library of diverse medical illustrations, a fellowship to support the future of medical illustrators of color, and an awareness campaign to help bring lasting change in the U.S. healthcare system and vision for a more inclusive future for patients of color.Illustrate Change is part of Johnson & Johnson’s Our Race to Health Equity (ORTHE), a bold commitment to create a world where the color of your skin is not a determinant of your access to care, quality of care or health outcomes. The new project is presented in collaboration with illustrator Chidiebere Ibe, Deloitte and the Association of Medical Illustrators.
