Your channel popped up as a selection to watch, so I did. I have become so fascinated by this style of living. This is not something one would see here in the United States. So in saying that "Help from New Hampshire USA!" Thank you for sharing your narrowboat life with us!!
Welcome aboard! We are glad you found us! We lived in Texas for 10 years before moving back to the UK 2 years ago. We had spent most of Covid lock down watching so many narrowboat vlogs and decided that it would be a good thing to try and we have not looked back since! We explained it to our American friends as RVing but it a boat, at 3mph, with no traffic jams! 😊
Thank you for these videos. We are starting our first winter on the canals and have chosen the Llangollen for the experience. It is great to see the places we have been and are going.
I'm almost glad we are so behind with our videos that we get to enjoy so many wonderful winter memories on the Llangollen all over again! We could easily choose it as our home canal one day perhaps 😊
It was so sweet to see Poppy's angst about those pesky squirrels. As for Jasper, those parting times are so stressful. I felt for you. Thanks for sharing. Leigh
Hi Leigh! Just like her older brothers, Poppy is obsessed with squirrel watching! Our first house in Houston had so many old established trees, and Jasper in particular would sit for hours watching them tease him! By the time Poppy came to our family we were in a new build house, with no big trees. She used to watch for wildlife and dogs on the narrowboat vlogs on TV, when we were planning this new life aboard, and now she's living and loving it, and has now met some of those dogs she used to watch! Jess and Archie, and Dexter! 😊
Loved revisiting the Llangollen after our time there last year. But very sad to know that little Jasper has passed on, after his very good, long life ❤
How courteous of a swan to be coming out of Swanley Bridge Marina. 🙂 What a great video of the canal and the locks, I really loved this. Such a beautiful cruise! Wouldn't you think that every lock or swing bridge or lift bridge would use the same size windlass? Sigh. How dumb, no you didn't say that, but I will, how dumb. And for you, what a great video of extraordinary weather and water and skies. Ah the chimney, good on Pete! And good on both of you for such a gorgeous video. You boat is beautiful!!! Jasper. I wish words could help. Hugs and love to him and to all of you, his family.
Such a wonderfully timed swan moment wasn’t it Ann! It is annoying about the different sized windlasses for different canals, but I think back to the days of the Industrial Revolution in the UK and I’m sure the builders didn’t think about all of the leisure cruisers like us who would be traveling the whole country all on different canals, inconvenienced by their choice of different sized spindle 😂😊
Lovely relaxing vlog as usual. It’s lovely to relive last year’s winter, really looking forward to your next few videos, it was a lovely time. It’s a shame we never got to meet Jasper, he looked so sweet. It’s going to be hard for you to edit next week’s vlog, sending hugs 🤗 xx
Thanks so much! He was a lovely boy, with a very funny stubborn streak! For once I am glad we are so far behind so we can all relive our wonderful winter together ❄️
It is hard when you say goodbye I know but is soul is with you forever and I love the Llangollen camel was on it in September 16th to the 23th and ellesmere is beautiful
It is so hard to say goodbye. We fell in love with Blakemere and Ellesmere. They became like our second home for winter. I’m sure you had a wonderful time there! Thanks for watching 😊
Hi ya just tuned in to watch this stretch we did the Llangollen canal when I was 11 lovely to watch I remember the aqueduct just trying to see if I remember any of the other places. I fell in quite a few times😂😂😂. We had a spare lock key. You were nice and lucky to get it back people are lovely xxxx ❤❤❤❤ sorry to hear about jasper xxx p.s getting boat envy our boat was called Calder Rose very basic. I would love to live on a boat again xxxx liz
Glad we were able to bring back some lovely memories Liz! I have just uploaded our cruise across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct so you can relive some more th-cam.com/video/xU5j9w9w-bk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KbuByQAOdaoypTxl 😊
Ray & Wendy NB Coriander: Thank you for sharing your precious final moments with Jasper who seemed such a lovely soul and I am sure he is missed every day. We are currently heading for the Llangollen canal moored below the 2nd lock of the Audlem flight so finding the content of your current vlogs very interesting as we have not been on the Llangollen canal before. Keep up the good work and I hope we meet you again soon. (you helped us through a lock with Paul & Antony).
We remember you! Jasper was such a lovely boy, who lived a wonderfully long life. You will absolutely love the Llangollen Canal, especially this time of year. The autumn colours at Blakemere are just fantastic! Safe travels to you both 😊
Thanks for this video. I think we are going back to earlier one earlier h time. Happy New Year to you both. See you again in January. Love from Lionel and Mary x
Smashing Vlog, Im currently walking the Llangollen (only in short hops getting old!!! lol!!!) so it great to see it from a different perspective, its a beautiful canal. Incidentally Bank Farm next to Platts Bridge (5) used to have an old loo down the garden, it was a double seater!!! Takes togetherness to a whole new level!! Lol! My Aunt lived there and I spent many a happy hour there as a kid! :-)
What a wonderful story!!! Pete’s mum still has an outside toilet in the garden, sadly only a single seater though! We stopped at some services in the middle of nowhere in Arkansas once, and I was surprised to see two toilets in the same room opposite each other which amused me 😂
@@onedaymoreaboard Ours was only a single seater too (no flush same as my Aunt double) was highly embarrassing to a teen bringing home her first boyfriend!! 😮😮😮 I completely ignored him when he first asked me where the toilet was, had to go and ask my Mum in the end!! 😂😂😂😂
Thank you again for a lovely video. Local update for you: Last farmers market of the year was today. Always sad it is the last one. Means winter is coming on strong. No more fresh veggies / farm eggs. Had one day last week of 80F - today we had a high of 47F and tonight's low will be 37F. By mid week it will be highs just above freezing and nights of mid 20's and one night low of 19F. Take care - hope the puppies / family and you are doing well. Your Midwestern internet friend. Spinner and family.
Thanks so much! Our daughter told us they have snow forecast for this week in Madison! Have you ever been to the farmers's market in Madison in Capitol Square? It's just wonderful! You're right that it is a sign that winter is well and truly on it's way when it's the last one! We don't; have our big winter coats out yet here, but I know it won't be long. We are cruising today and we just put the clocks back last night, so that's one less hour of daylight for us! 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard I have never been up to that farmers market. It's about 1 hour drive to make it to Madison. My 'boss' doctors up there at UW Madison for her disease. What a great hospital with great nurses and doctors. Glad to hear you are cruising. Love seeing the countryside. Here it's all bean / corn fields and lots of farm animals. Again take care - pet the puppies for me. I need to send you some coffee. Firehouse coffee company is only 25 miles from me. We'll have to send you some.
Like Dorothy, i just love llangollen canal vlogs - it's so beautiful - and everyone paints a different picture. I never realised there were all those lift bridges - felt for you when you felt you were holding up the traffic - i guess they know the roads and are prepared for it
We are the same and never tire of watching everyone’s different takes on the same stretches of canal, especially the Llangollen! We’ve heard that in summer with far more boat traffic, there have been ‘heated discussions’ between boaters and drivers about who’s been waiting the longest! 😊
I really enjoyed today’s episode. Such beautiful scenery and I always enjoy the puppies. I’m sad for Jasper’s illness. I often wonder why our pets have to suffer 😢 these diseases. Poppy is such a character 😂😂 squirrels 🐿️ provide entertainment for us all 😉😂 I’m from the United States but have noticed Welsh sounds nothing like it looks! Thanks again for your lovely videos and music 😘
That"s so lovely to hear Nancy. It's so good reading such wonderful comments like yours, it makes it all worthwhile while, and puts a smile on our faces for the rest of the day! Welsh really is a hard language to read and pronounce, and we don't do a very good job of it! Just wait until, we get to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and hear how we try to say that! You're right, Poppy really is out little entertainer! She doesn't miss a thing when we are cruising, and when we are moored up, she is up at the back greeting everyone as they walk past the boat! She would do well as a Walmart greeter! We love that we have these lovely video memories of our old boy Jasper enjoying his boat dog life. Thanks for watching 😊
After watching a gazillion narrowboat vlogs I've ended up loving Llangollen as one of my favorite places. Fall, winter and spring seems like the best time to be there. I understand that summer is a gridlock. I wouldn't like the boat crowds or the people crowds. 🥴
i agree its getting totally boring every narrowboat channel goes to the llangollen canal and all do the same vlogs time to unsubsribe loads i think pointless watching same places plus most all did last year
It really is a beautiful canal Dorothy, and autumn and winter were the perfect seasons to be there. Stunning scenery and beautiful colours and not too much boat traffic. I can imagine in the summer it is so busy with so many rental companies in the area. We were so lucky to have the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct all to ourselves! It was busy with vloggers last winter, but I think everyone has their own take on it. Thanks for watching and supporting our little channel 😊
@ajw1467 I’m sorry you feel like that, but with all of the closures due to low water and winter maintenance last year, lots of boaters that were constantly cruising through the winter had to change plans (ourselves included) to head for wherever they could get to, which for a lot of us happened to be the Llangollen Canal. I think there’s value in everyone’s point of view and the way they present their journey in their vlogs, and still a lot of variety. Of course we would be sad to see any of our viewers go, but we can only vlog where we could actually get to. Thanks for watching 😊
I agree Caroline every vlog has its own content and your capturing your time on a particular canal so even though its the same canal the different time of year and weather make them all different. You capture the passing through locks and bridges very well
A very good vlog easy going peaceful along a beautiful canal with a great destination the river dee looked like it in full flow with lots of the rocks covered instead of standing out of the water. it is sad to loose Jasper this was the first time i watched this vlog but i knew it was a while ago. lost my 21 year old cat a while ago and i miss her still. Stay safe on your cruise catch your next vlog Ed 40 S of Vegas.
Glad you enjoyed it Ed, and happy to have you aboard from across the pond! This is our footage from last winter, so it's been almost a year since we lost Jasper, but I'm so glad we have these wonderful video memories to see him enjoying his life as a boat dog. So sorry to hear about your lovely cat. 21 years is a fabulous age, and she must have lived a wonderful life. They always stay in your heart don't they. Have a wonderful week 😊
Hello lovely couple. We have followed your journey from day one and really enjoy the content of your videos, your boat is beautiful. We have just watched your latest one. We feel very sad for Jasper, and his illness😢. We cant quite understand seeing him on the latest footage when he sadly passed away in November last year!!. I hopewe can be enlightened!. Keep up the great vlogs. Regards Deb and Wal from little New Zealand. ❤❤
Hi Deb and Wal! We are happy to have you aboard from so far away! This is our footage from last winter, so we are just coming up to the one year anniversary of losing Jasper. Our videos were always running 6 months behind, as I was was videoing and photographing our travels from the start for our own personal use, but didn't start creating videos to put out publicly on TH-cam until 6 months into our journey. I have always planned to try and catch up, but didn't want to rush and comprise the quality of the videos, and then taking time off to look after my dad when he was sick, and then his passing, put me even further behind. I figure that there are still journeys to be enjoyed, no matter when they were filmed! It's lovely to hear that you enjoy them. It makes it all worthwhile 😊
My mooring of choice where you first tried, but not had it low water. You should see the faces of drivers at the bridge when i walk back to get my boat then amble through shortly after 😂😂😂
I am laughing imagining you commentating your trip through the lift bridge David! We can't imagine it in summer with back to back boat traffic trying to get through, and all the irate drivers! 😂
I wish I could walk as far as you did, I am physically unable to do it. It made things a little slower when my Son-in-Law brought my boat from Furness Vale on the Peak Forest Canal to Overwater Marina on the Shroppie. Mind you, we hardly saw any boats moving for the first 4 days, it was weird, but we did have a few laughs on the journey! I did wonder what Jasper had, at least he had a good innings and a lovely life. 🐾💔
I'm glad you enjoyed your trip on the Peak Forest and Shroppie. Both beautiful canals! We all have to do what we can within our capabilities don't we, and I'm glad oyu can still enjoy your boat with some help. Thanks for watching 😊
My dearest companion through my husband's deployments to dusty dangerous places, JJcat , had that as well. I'm sorry you had to lose your sweet boy to it too.
It’s terrible isn’t it. It was so aggressive too. From diagnosis to us deciding it was best to say goodbye was only 2 weeks. It grew so fast sadly. But Jasper had had a wonderful long life. Thanks for watching 😊
Thanks for sharing this videos. Absolutely stunning. Will you be wintering there again this year? I think people are confused and think these are current and that Jasper 🐾❤️ , just passed away. 😊🤗🐾❤️ Kathy
Hi Kathy, thanks for watching! It was such a wonderful canal to winter on last year, but this year we are staying further south on the Grand Union Canal to be closer to my Mum, since my Dad passed. It's quite confusing for some, especially those new to our channel, with the footage not being current, but I was always running about 6 months behind anyway, and had always intended to try and catchup, but then my Dad got progressively worse and I took time out to help look after him. I didn't want to rush the videos and compromise the quality. Hope you understand 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard Not a problem, as I knew this was from 2022. I was just pointing out that many of the comments thought it was a recent one and that Jasper had just passed away. I have been following you and Pete through Paul and Anthony Vlogs. You have been through a lot in the last 12 months, losing Jasper, and then your dad. I am so sorry about your dad. Losing a parent is so hard. I had thought you would be staying closer to your mom, but after watching the last winters video of Llangollen, I was wondering if you would have a change of heart as it is so beautiful . Take care. 😊🤗🐾❤️ Kathy
We know that feeling. When they get to a good age and start to show it, you never know when it will be. It’s that circle of life isn’t it, and we just love them as hard as we can until the end. Thanks for watching 😊
All ok here, thanks for thinking of us. We don’t really have a set day to release our vlogs, just when they are ready b just waiting for my voice to sound normal after a stinking cold so I can add the voice over to the latest one and then it will be finished 😊👍
Llangollen canal is our favourite We have a boat at Overwater marina near Nantwich I’m ashamed to say our first priority when mooring up is internet Views are low on the list 😮😮😮
Hi David, we were actually discussing it last night and have to agree that the Llangollen Canal is our favourite. I've heard wonderful things about Overwater, and you are perfectly placed for the Llangollen! Internet is always a big priority for us, as Pete works from the boat, and I love when I have a great internet speed for uploading videos to TH-cam, which can sometimes take hours and hours! Thankfully in 2 years of fun time cruising we have only been in 3 places with absolutely no internet or phone signal (with EE and Three), and have had to move on. Thanks for watching
You are allowed to travel at night, and you see odd boats doing it, but it’s not ideal. We have only done it when our day hasn’t gone as planned, and we haven’t been able to find a morning spot before it got dark, which is more often on a river as there are limited pontoons for mooring 😊
We have learned to not have plants that grow too high! That was a mistake our first year. We normally replant every year but they tend to go a bit crazy so this year we are planting much lower level flowers 🤞
That was the windlass that I left behind on the lock gate, sometimes called a lock key. It has a socket that fits over the mechanism on the lock, a little like a wrench going on a bolt, which then forms a handle to wind the paddles of the lock up. This opens little ‘doors’ in the lock gate which lets the water in or out to change the level of the water in the lock, enabling boats to go up and down hill. You will see us using a windlass in most of our videos as we go through locks 👍
That’s probably closer than our butchering of the pronunciation! Wait until we get to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and see how we do so badly with that! We hope our pronunciation got better towards the end of of time in Wales! Thanks for watching 😊
We spent a delightful evening at "The Bridge Inn" also known as "The last Pub in England". (It is on the Welsh Border) We were taught Welsh pronunciation by a bunch of locals while they bought us more wine than we needed. It was so much fun.
I am remembering Jasper with you on this date and sending a hug to acknowledge the joy his vlogs still bring us. Leigh

So sad to hear about our sweet Jasper....he was fortunate to have you both....
Thank you so much Shirley. We love that are have these video memories of Jasper enjoying his boat dog life 😊
My mooring of choice where you first tried, but not had it low water.
❤️
Poor Jasper🙏❤️
❤️
@@onedaymoreaboard JJ told me he was done when he stopped eating butter, his not so secret vice. 1 week.
Take care. 😊🤗🐾❤️ Kathy
I know exactly how you feel about losing Jasper my cat Bobby is 14 and blind and I know it's only a matter of time
We know that feeling. When they get to a good age and start to show it, you never know when it will be. It’s that circle of life isn’t it, and we just love them as hard as we can until the end. Thanks for watching 😊
Hope everything is ok as this week vlog is late as not got Facebook now
All ok here, thanks for thinking of us.
How are they thrivibg in the cold
We dispose of the plants in the winter and replant for the spring 👍
Can you ride on the canal at night or do you have to moor
You are allowed to travel at night, and you see odd boats doing it, but it’s not ideal. We have only done it when our day hasn’t gone as planned, and we haven’t been able to find a morning spot before it got dark, which is more often on a river as there are limited pontoons for mooring 😊
Can you talk about your plants
We have learned to not have plants that grow too high! That was a mistake our first year. We normally replant every year but they tend to go a bit crazy so this year we are planting much lower level flowers 🤞
Can you spell out what you left behind and maybe do a quick tutorial onit????
That was the windlass that I left behind on the lock gate, sometimes called a lock key. It has a socket that fits over the mechanism on the lock, a little like a wrench going on a bolt, which then forms a handle to wind the paddles of the lock up. This opens little ‘doors’ in the lock gate which lets the water in or out to change the level of the water in the lock, enabling boats to go up and down hill. You will see us using a windlass in most of our videos as we go through locks 👍
Is it not pronounced Clangloflan?
That’s probably closer than our butchering of the pronunciation! Wait until we get to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and see how we do so badly with that! We hope our pronunciation got better towards the end of of time in Wales! Thanks for watching 😊
We spent a delightful evening at "The Bridge Inn" also known as "The last Pub in England". (It is on the Welsh Border) We were taught Welsh pronunciation by a bunch of locals while they bought us more wine than we needed. It was so much fun.
@@MrFQL We had a lovely evening in The Bridge Inn too! Wine definitely y helps with the pronouciation!
