Talk about a "feel good" video! I really enjoyed your pancake-making efforts for the birds today. Glad you got one too, and now I'm drooling myself!😂 thanks Martin. Always awesome. 👍😎🇨🇦👌🪶🥞❄
A bonus year as I just returned from my third trip this winter. Not much snow and temps around freezing all winter except for a few short blasts of real winter mixed in.
WOW, lots of snow Martin, where i live in Ontario it has been like Spring , lol too funny about your mole friend . Happy you got that nuisance vole, You had me wanting some pancakes Mmmm. Your videos are always enjoyable Martin.
Wow what a fat vole. We have them here in Mississippi but the ones I see are at least three times slimmer. Our cat takes care of them. Have moles also and have tried everything to get rid of them. Wish they would stay in the woods and not in my yard. Sure makes it hard to walk around for an old 80 year lady who could fall from the uneven ground. Guess we just have to live with the good and bad things in life that come our way. The snow looks so beautiful. God bless you and Vonnie. From deep southeast Mississippi.
The guest cabin will have an effective barrier to the Voles I hope. The Canada Jays got a combo breakfast, Vole with pancakes. Another great video Martin.
Do you like blueberry pancakes, Martin? One of my late grandmother's relatives, Aunt Eva, used to make the best blueberry pancakes. Aunt Eva used to make them for the loggers in Michigan many, many years ago. As kids, my parents and brothers used to visit her, and she would always have blueberry pancakes ready. 😋👍👌
This is funny S---tuff....We have oodles of voles, and our Cats over the year Bless us with abundant contributions to herd nutrition....one for me----2 for you. I have had fresh Ruff Grouse for breakfast, I tend to pass on the Pine Squirrels, Deer mice, Short tail weasels, Flying Squirrels (Sometimes even Dead) and lots of Meadow Voles, and other assorted nutritional goodies. But of all the critters introduced, Voles tend to be the lest likely to survive for long indoors. Very interesting. Thanks.
I have caught some live in a bucket and they were always friendly and they never were scared. I gave them water and grass because I was going to take them away from my house. They would eat the grass but after a few hours they would always die. I never did understand but they must not like being captive.
Shrews are similar in that way, but I suspect they die from lack of nutrition, as the metabolic rates are so high that the must eat nearly constantly, and their life cycle is very short I believe.@@misterz2719
I have heard of hustlers keeping a shrew in their pocket and bragging about how mean and tough they are. Someone finds a mouse or vole and put them in a bucket with the shrew and bets are made while a few beers go down. Soon the only survivor is the tiny shrew and the hustlers walks away with his profits.
And too the Victor goes the nutrition. Years ago, my Dad trapped a large Marten. As we approached the set, a Shrew scampered off into a snow tunnel. When he picked up the Marten (not Martin)....all there was, was hair and mostly bones. The little guy burrowed in and ate most of the Marten. A very incredible feat.@@TheNorthwoodsman1
U know, a long pole with a brush attached can clean the solar panels without having to climb a ladder. Glad you found and removed the thief. New camera location looks like a good spot. Curtains on the window right of the stove to stop the camera reflection or a stick-on tint? Thanks for sharing and have a grand day.
I would be on a mission to seal every tiny void in the cabin. I'm a country, outside guy, but don't like " little visitors ". Thanks for the visit Martin. 😊
Pancakes for the win. Another nice video from the cabin and good detective work. Good thing Jim wasn't there or he would of got him first. Take care, Al
Martin bait your traps with juicy fruit chewing gum. They will eat it and it will eliminate them. Just find out where they are nesting first you will want to know that. Cause come the heat of the summer you will have a unpleasant smell if you know what I mean. If you know where their holes are you can drop the gum in the holes they will find them
Love you channel. One thing I am a bit concerned with is if your cabin went on fire. I wonder should you have a little wood stove in a closed in area of a woodshed. If you ran out in a cold night with no place to go you might find yourself in a pickle. You are a long ways from your Vechicle and you may not be dressed for the walk out. Your cabin was there for a long time and I know most likely it won't happen because you have a great system and you know what you are doing but things have a strange way of happening. Take care and keep them great videos coming.
Sir, I might need a few more prayers . The most recent MRI showed that little piece of mutated tumor is still active. So once insurance is approved, more medical treatment will follow .😊
I had hoped for a year or two of remission, that doesn’t seem to in the cards yet. It’s chemo, only with a newly released drug. Thank you for your prayers sir. 👍🙏
On my little acre i have moles, and had never heard of voles until a few years ago.i has planted tomato vines, something pulled them down under the ground, not leaving one leaf!! Did the same with a start of a snowball bush, whatever the name is. Don't really know if it was a mole or vole,or the other little animal, gopher. But i was on my riding lawnmower in my back yard, had put couple keys in the little drink holder. After while i hunted for my keys, thet were gone! Looked all around in my yard the area I'd been over, time and again!! I called my neighbor to borrow his metal detector,he brought it and used it himself. After awhile he hit on something, dug around in the dirt, there was my keys!! So keys had bounced out of the mower,an underground critter had ran to them and dug dirt over them!! Guess he thought it was food or some valuable treasure!! Neighbor said if he hadn't used the metal detector, probably never would have found the keys and been puzzled over whatever happened to them!! Had NO idea, even thought of such a deal!!
The cutest and most revolting thing I have seen was one night I woke up and looked over to where my small tumbler of water was so I could have a drink, and there was a mouse, standing on it's hind legs and front feet resting on the top of the glass, and drinking my water. I guess we had been sharing for weeks. @@TheNorthwoodsman1
Moles are carnivores that's why they are hard to catch in a trap. Mostly eat insects. I had the most luck hearing one in a trash bag and closing it quick and throwing it in the fire. Not the most humane but they were driving me crazy because I couldn't sleep.
I have the same issue with the mice and shrews here not interested in peanut butter. I would say if a mouse won’t eat it, neither would I but I don’t eat peanut butter as it is. 😂 Your vole is quite the acrobatic fella and a pack rat wannabe!
There is a man in England who has a mouse that can’t stand his messy workshop. So the mouse picks up all of the things laying around and puts them in a shallow box he has on his wood bench!

HEY THERE MARTIN. GOT A QUESTION, I SEE THE PEPANE TANK, NEXT TO THE STOVE, HAS A COVER AROUND IT? WHAT IS THE REASON FOR IT?? NOW WHY I'M ASKING IS BECAUSE, I HAVE TWO PROTANE TANKS OUTSIDE, ON A DUAL REGULATOR THAT I USE TO COOK ON MY, GAS STOVE & DRYER. WELL, WHEN IT GET COLD OUT. (FL.) I GET & HAVE SOME FREEZEING NIGHTS, 29*, 30*, 32* DEGREES. SO, WHEN I USE THE STOVE & TURN ON THE BURNER, IT TAKES A FEW SECONDS & THE FLAME *BLASTS ON*?? SO, WAS WONDERING IF THE COLD IS AFFECTING THE TANKS OUTSIDE????? I DON'T RECALL THIS HAPPENING IN THE WARM WEATHER. SO, IS THAT WHY YOU HAVE YOUR PROPANE TANK, COVERED?? LOVE HOW, CERTAIN BIRD THAT FLY TO YOUR HAND , STOP, THEN LOOK AT YOU & TAKE THE FOOD. SO COOL!!! Do take care. Fl
I would guess that your regulator is sticking in the cold. In the far north people have trouble with propane tanks left outside when it gets to -30 F or so. My little cover is just decor and came on a tank I bought used one day.
SO, MARTIN, WOULD COVERING THE PROPANE TANKS, HELP?? THEY ARE OUTSIDE. I'VE HAD TEMPS. AS LOW AS, 29F & SOME STEADY, 30F, FOR DAYS. @@TheNorthwoodsman1
An old cabin,a fresh snow and a good wood stove is a heavenly combination
I agree
As the world turns at Martins cabin. It looks like another day in paradise! Have a great week... 😁❄️🥶
Brilliant observation
Paradise it is.
When you have a layer of snow..... That place is truly heaven on earth
Amazing what a little blanket of white can do for your spirit.
Martin, never a dull moment at the Cabin! Thanks for sharing. ✏️🐭🖊️
It all keeps me on my toes.
I can’t stop watching you. Very envious of your energy and just knuckle down mentality. Keep up the great work and eat a pie!
Thank you! Will do!
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR BLESSING OUR LIVES W YOUR CABIN, COOKING & CHAT!! 83 YR OLD GRMA WA STATE USA. WILL MAKE PANCAKES TOMORROW!!❤

I do try to mix it up a little.
Great video. The snow is amazingly beautiful. God Bless.
So nice to get a fresh coating.
The snowy forest is beautiful. A rare sight down here in South Alabama. Thank you for sharing and God Bless.
Fresh snow always makes for a great morning.
Good morning Martin. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.🇨🇦
I just got back from another trip there with mild temps the whole week.
Glad to see you at the cabin in December.
A bonus year as I just returned from my third trip this winter. Not much snow and temps around freezing all winter except for a few short blasts of real winter mixed in.
Those pancakes Martin are like a multi tool, have them for Breakfast, feed your grey jays, And catch a Vole ! Well Done Sir :-)
Very efficient that way.
WOW, lots of snow Martin, where i live in Ontario it has been like Spring , lol too funny about your mole friend . Happy you got that nuisance vole, You had me wanting some pancakes Mmmm. Your videos are always enjoyable Martin.
Snow is beautiful. Seems there hasn’t been that much of it this year. Im hoping spring is early though. That critter was writing a novel.
I better check the log in book too.

I think that vole had been eating well for a while.
Looks very nice, enjoy your weekend.
Thanks, you too!
It looks like this morning in NW Wyoming, although our snow comes down as powder. Beautiful!
Sure sets the scent nicely.
The guest cabin will have an effective barrier to the Voles I hope. The Canada Jays got a combo breakfast, Vole with pancakes. Another great video Martin.
These things can get through a very small hole so impossible to keep out.
Really enjoy all your videos, we like when you talk it's like you're speaking individually to each person. We enjoy your wife's recipes too.
It seems to come naturally for me to include everyone in the conversation.
A beautiful snowfall, a tale of 14" of snow, and no ladders or chainsaws! 😊
I needed a break from all the verbal abuse.
I miss my cabin, this always reminds me.
Glad to help.
right on Martin
wonders never cease up there.

Actually it has been spring all winter at the cabin this season except for a short period.
rest and plan, the best is yet to come, thxs for sharing...
Lots getting done this winter with the good weather and little snow.

I like them with fresh picked blueberrries while on the summer canoe trips.

We do have our fun up there and glad to share it.

too many times the snow is crusted on and I need to scrape it. I do have an old mud flap on a pole for when the snow is fresh.
Hey Mr Martin Good videos like always. Peace from SW Nova Scotia 🇨🇦
Oh, did you get nailed with bad weather this week?
Nice mystery. Real cliffhanger. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Just found your channel and I’m really enjoying it so much! I can’t wait to share it with my husband.
Hope you enjoy it! Here is what you missed from #1 th-cam.com/video/Hri0nMkxDo4/w-d-xo.html&pp=gAQBiAQB
Now you need to find where he took your pens and pencils.
There is space below the floor so if I pull it up in the future I may find a stash.
They go for marshmallows, too. I've baited traps in a feed bins with them and caught stuff. Even when the feed was out loose.
Worth a try if I do not roast them all over the fire.
I can see them being interested in chewing on a pencil but the pens have me scratching my head. Maybe he wanted to be in your cabin visitor log book!
I need to check that book more closely.
What I admire is that Martin is secure enough to be alone in the wilderness. Most couldn’t…
One never knows until it is tried, many fears just melt away once in the moment.
I usually don’t comment about you up a ladder, but screws would be good. Thanks for the video.👍
Got it done and it sure helps.
Another great cabin video. Glad you caught the thief.

Us too!
LOVED THE CLOSING PIC FEEDING BIRDS FROM INSIDE CABIN!!!!!
I would be on a mission to seal every tiny void in the cabin. I'm a country, outside guy, but don't like " little visitors ". Thanks for the visit Martin. 😊
It would drive you crazy to try to seal that cabin up.
GOOD MORNING ,, THANKS
Good morning!
Yes on blocking the glare through the window.
Pancakes for the win. Another nice video from the cabin and good detective work. Good thing Jim wasn't there or he would of got him first. Take care, Al
Glad you enjoyed it
Sounds like your Vole was building his own log cabin.
First time I had pens disappear and it had me stumped.
Thanks for another great visit to the cabin, Hopefully he didn't show any friends where he was finding all those treasures.
I hope so too
Martin, maybe need to bait that trap with a pen...
Y’all do more in that snow and enjoy it…Been in snow…I prefer mine about 70 degreeswarmer 😂😮🌞
But there are no bugs when we have all the snow to contend with!
When you finish the new cabin, I will move into the old one.
Funny thing is I have no plan to stay in the new one.
Martin bait your traps with juicy fruit chewing gum. They will eat it and it will eliminate them. Just find out where they are nesting first you will want to know that. But will the "POW" wake me up in the night? LOL
An agent of the beaver. Time to resurrect the beaver deceiver Jr

Love it 👍😃✌️🇺🇸💪❤️

Hello doctor Martin
Always interesting happenings around that cabin.

I love your tenacity for life … may I asked how old you are ?
73 next month but blessed with good health.

Rest assured I have that covered. Tubs of sleeping bags and extra clothes out in the shed. Easy to start a fire out there too. Boots there too.
Don't understand why you don't have raised beds, instead of sleeping on the floor .
Takes up too much space when he has visitors I would think..
It also the coolest place for good sleeping. I have a perfected a nice roll to get out and up from the floor so it is the best place to be.
Saw Vonnies latest tasty recipe on Vonnies Kitchen TH-cam. Good stuff.
I see it on my waist often.
In french, 'vole' means 'theft'. Maybe they were named for that very reason!
Interesting

Better be nice to those voles. They are obviously keeping some kind of record
The little shrews are the ones that like to nibble on an ear lobe.

If we only knew what goes on when the lights go out.
Glue boards do work to get voles...
I was told a natural way is to put a wad of moss in the cabin and they will get into it and you pick it up and put out in the woods!
Martin, what are you saying at the 8:25 mark?
Playing mischief with the cabin
It hard to make anything criter proof for long
With that cabin, not a chance.
If you dug a new well is all the ground water high iron?
No use in trying as the hard clay layer is not far down and no way to get all the way through it.
Moles are carnivores that's why they are hard to catch in a trap. Mostly eat insects. I had the most luck hearing one in a trash bag and closing it quick and throwing it in the fire. Not the most humane but they were driving me crazy because I couldn't sleep.
Interesting how many different little varmints I catch in the little cabin.

Where is this cabin? If Martin lives in Illinois.
Very top central MN. 600 mile drive to get there but only 10 hours.
