    I just tried to find proper scales for this chord progression. Of course there’s individual mods for each chord but I am too lazy for it and it’s maybe more practical to think about some chord streams as one scale so I did it this way. And I am not really sure about complicated chords like dominant b13 and dominant #11 so I hope I’ll see other variants of scales for those ones from you guys.
    Part A - D major scale (F#, C#)
    Part B :
    Chords 1-3 - G major scale (F#)
    Chord 4 - F melodic minor scale (Ab, Bb)
    Chords 5, 6 - the same as 1 and 2
    Chord 7 - A major scale (F#, C#, G#)
    Chord 8 - A melodic minor scale (F#, G#)
    Chords 9, 10, 11, 12 - the same as 1, 2, 3 and 4
    Chords 13, 14 - the same as 1 and 2
    Chords 15, 16 - the same as 7

      @JoeSzilagy ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I just soloed to the whole thing (in E min.) and it seemed to fit even in the chord changes later on. I'm assuming those are relative chords. Sorry if I'm not saying that right, I'm self-taught, and can't really read music, etc.

    • @cofftps67yago94
      @cofftps67yago94 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@JoeSzilagy you know in fact I saw a comment from the author of this video and he said that it’s simply E Dorian in part A and E eolian(aka E minor) in part B.
      But it seems to me that in part B some chord tones are clashing with E eolian scale tones and somehow it’s sounds even better then the scales that I personally used over those chords. Because I am self taught too I asked the author about it and he didn’t answer me still.

    • @randyp5070
      @randyp5070 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is simply e minor for the whole thing

    • @PaulTheSkeptic
      @PaulTheSkeptic ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm a little confused about what you're saying. When you say D major you basically mean E dorian right? For part A I mean? It's the same notes. Then I'm not really sure how to do a melodic minor scale but the regular F minor has an Ab and a Bb. Is that the same thing? There is a different scale called the melodic minor isn't there? Is this just supposed to be like an easy way to write out the changes?
      It seems like this could be a really cool lesson but I feel like there's a lot missing. Why these modes? Is this just how you learned? Should I really try to learn the melodic minor? I tried once but it seemed so different than the other scales I knew and so hard to remember and I didn't really know where to play it anyway. Is it like a thing you just throw in every once in a while so things don't get stale or does it go somewhere specific? Thanks in advance.

    • @cofftps67yago94
      @cofftps67yago94 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PaulTheSkeptic Because I’m a self taught musician I don’t know some things well. Most of the things, to be honest. I learn this stuff by books and videos. So you don’t necessary need to think just like I do cuz maybe I’m absolutely wrong, but I’ll try to explain my point of view anyway.
      As I understand, it’s better to think of chord streams as about modes to know what feel you are going to get. So yes, D major and E dorian have the same notes but it’s different feel. Like a brighter one for major and a darker one for dorian. This feel is created by chords and relations between the chords. And also by relations between the chords and the melody.
      So you may ask me “If these modes describe different feels, why did you use only major and melodic minor?”.
      I just didn’t want to confuse anyone because I’m not knowledgable enough to tell what exactly modes are used in what part. From my perspective the part A is in E dorian for sure. But the part B seems more complicated so I can't tell exactly what modes are used there.
      So I tried to just describe what notes were used without describing the feel aka what mode it was and where is the base of this mode. I tried to do it by using Major scale cuz it's simply the most known one.
      But some chords couldn’t be described by major scale (A#7 +11 and E7 -13) so I found out that melodic minor fits to those (maybe there are other scales except for the melodic minor scale). And just like with the major scale, which has different modes in it, the melodic minor scale has its own modes in it. So again I just wanted to describe what notes were used without describing the feel.
      In conclusion, part B seems ambiguous for me so its changes can be described different ways or I'm simply too dumb to understand what's really going on in that part.
      And about melodic minor. It seems that the notes in the breckets confused you. There were written ALL the sharpened or flattened notes in the scale. So F minor would have Ab, Bb, Db and Eb in the brackets. F melodic minor is the same thing but with 6th and 7th degrees sharpened. I don’t know if you should learn melodic minor scale or not. I guess it depends on your current level. It may confuse you if you don’t know other things well or it may help you. Me myself is a great example. Maybe I am applying this stuff correctly. Maybe it’s not needed here and I’m absolutely wrong.
      Sorry for such a long text. I wanted to express myself clearly.

    • @cofftps67yago94
      @cofftps67yago94 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@slohanrecords8262 hey I can’t really understand how do A#7+11 and E7-13 chords work with E eolian scale. Shouldn’t notes from E eolian scale clash with these chords’ notes? For example note A from E eolian clashes with 1 and 7 (A# and Ab) tones from A#7+11 chord. And also note A clashes with third (Ab) of E7-13.
      Even so E eolian scale still sounds quite pleasing for my ears over these chords (even more pleasing than other scales that are have no clashing notes with these chords(I tried to use F melodic minor over A#7+11 and A melodic minor over E7-13)) but I can't understand the nature of it theoretically.
      Could you please explain it to me or maybe provide some helpful sources? I’d be very grateful for it.

      Hi you could try Dm pentatonic or G7 - do some BB king stuff:). If you see this piece written in Cmaj7 it all comes clear. First part 3rd progression (Em7) . Second part 6th progression (Am7), 2nd chord not sure but could be 2nd progression altered, then 7th progression (Bm7dim) and last one also some altered chord, not sure which one. Cheers
