Yes. watch OS does work on iPhone. It has some limitations. But you get notifications and some function. Not sure 100% what the sacrifice is. But if your on iOS the apple watch is the way to go.

friendly tip: lapel can sit lower on your shirt and still get good audio. also, music is overpowering your voice, try it at a lower level :)
