The sun from above, earth from down below, melt & vaporize me, this has become my life. I am seeing my death with my own eyes. It's my destiny, being a hostage to the earth. There is nothing left of me, these are the last drops. The thirsty earth is taking it away. I will be dried out tomorrow, when the sun comes up, and sand will fill where once I was. The real value of an artist , especially a singer, is his or her relationship with his or her people. Whenever we say people , we are addressing all humankind beings. The more you respect humanity , the more you will be beloved. Without respecting human's right , we are nothing.
Swamp = mordab. Farsi poet is persian history culture and iranian express in everyday life. She performed for people from 3years old with her father violinist.. She is a special artist in iranian heart because of lots of different reasons ..
The "Spanish" influence goes both ways. Flamenco has some Iranian/Gypsy/Berber routs (look up Ziryab) and because of that, Iranians feel at home when Western music has some Spanish ornaments. The style of this song is known as "chanson" (pronounced shanson), a french genre of music that emphasises the lyrics and pays less attention to the background music. It was hugely popular in 60s and 70s in Europe (especially France, obviously, Italy and Germany) but also in Iran, where pop music was emerging. Googoosh is one of the pioneers of the modern pop music in Iran, which differs heavily from the heretofore known and loved traditional and Folk music, but a french person would actually characterize her as an accomplished "chanteur", a chanson singer.
I would correct you. Spanish have ornaments due to being the Arab territory for almost eight centuries! Arabs, in turn, initially overtook Persia and all related in near and far lands. During those long lasting times Persians had to somehow adapt to Arabs that introduced haram over depicting human faces (among many other weird "rules"). So, Persian (and others living there including non-Muslims, see Armenians) craftsmen, artists and architects mastered their ornamental art, and polished even more their architectural talents. Then Arabs carried this out and expanded far to North Africa and Southern Europe. Should that be Persian from the beginning, then you'd see that in Akhemenids and Sassanids legacy that conquered enormous territory. But we see a mix of beautiful, magnificent open faced monuments, bas-reliefs and ornaments, hence not ornaments only )) So I'd call this Persian Art's excellent adaptation to Arab's prohibitions. Kinda beautiful result emerged not thanks to, but in spite of vile nomads.

The sun eats the swamp(evaporates) and the earth eats it in a different way (absorbs the swamp). The song then continues with the swamp having the dream of joining the ocean but stuck in the desert and has no hope to survive. Beautiful concept like sunshine is pictured as an evil destroyer. All these contrasts makes the lyrics amazing
I've edited Neda's translations a bit to make it easier for everyone to follow the lines, exactly as she sings them. This way you get a better understanding of the lyrics & at the same time connect to what she's feeling through each line. . ***Also, wherever possible, instead of generalizing some of the lines (as Neda has done in just a few cases) I'm translating almost each line exactly as she speaks & means them in Persian.*** In the middle of a bare plain, beneath the desert sun, There's an old lagoon, captured in the land. I'll dry up, I'll run out, Tomorrow, when the sun comes, The sand will fill my spot (my existence) That which will come with the hands of the wind.....
I think the proper word for Mordab in English is lagoon. Here a lagoon is talking to itself or to God or to no-one , singing, crying, complaining about it's destiny. It was dreaming whole it's life about moving and flowing toward the ocean, toward the God, toward its true self, but something has stoped it. something maybe from outside or inside. It doesn't know. it is disappointed and when out of itself, it is observing its death. Being absorbed by soil and being vaporized by sun. it thinks it's the end of its story that's why it is scared. may be tomorrow it is joining the ocean as rain.
The Latin sound is because Latin music is the most compatible to ours from all of other western sounds. Most of our previous pop music drew heavily from Latin music.
in a naked field under a deserted sun me, an old puddle stuck in the hands of the ground i am that old puddle separated from the whole world the heat of the sun on my body chained to the dusty ground i am the one who wanted to become the ocean one day i wanted to become the biggest ocean in the world i had hopes to go get to the ocean burn the night to get to tomorrow at first being thirsty under the old sky but from my bad luck my way fell in the desert my eye, my eye was looking over their behind that tall mountain but from the hands of destiny brought me bad luck on the way i fell into a hole the dirt prisoned me the sky didn't rain the sky was conserving now i am a puddle in pain of evaporating one way i go in the ground the other way to the sky the sun from up their the ground from down here they make me evaporate my life became like this they took me with my eyes i am dying here my destiny is this i am suck on the ground nothing is left of me i am only couple drops of water the thirsty dirt is taking the drops away i will get end up dry tomorrow when the sun comes it will make me dry and take me to the sky
Mordab is a swamp, a stangnent decaying body of water which will never realize its biggest dream, reaching the ocean (the song assumes every body of water, just like a river, dreams of joining the ocean in the end). The lyrics though about a mordab on the surface is an analogy of unfulfilled dreams and the grief and sadness that accompany such loss.
I think her best song in this album was talagh (divorce). You may just need to take a look at her hit songs in 60s and 70s (not all of the songs were popular especially this one).
(One part of lyrics) I am the one who wanted to be the sea one day....i wanted to became the biggest sea in the world.... I wanted to go to the sea, burn the nights to reach the tomorrow It's the story of a pond that wanted to be a sea but Difficulties along the way turned it into a (mordab) swamp
The lyric is the story of a small spring dreaming of merging into the biggest sea. Misfortunately, she passes through a hole and entraps by the ground. The sun evaporates her from the top the soil sucks her last drops. She dies gradually and sands takes her place brought by the hands of the wind the next day. (I’m sure if it were Disney, it would have made a happy ending of that little spring’s destiny!)
Thank you for Persian Persian songs, we all Iranians love you, please go to an Iranian movie React again, of course a new movie, please, thank you.❤❤🙏🙏
hey Mace! thanks for reacting to older songs! i would never listen to these if it weren't you reacting to them, you're kinda introducing me to this genre of music from my own country! my Mom loves Googoosh and i certainly listened to most of her songs at some point but now I've got reason to relieve my childhood memories when my Mom used to force me into listening to them 😂 also now I'm getting a more diverse selection of music in my youtube music since I'm listening to these!! for the meaning of this song it's somehow coincidentally telling her story of life!! it's about a person who gets trapped in the life with no future and not being able to express their feelings or talent. it's crazy that's exactly what had happened to her few years later after this song with the revolution!
Well this is a pop song so it's bound to sound a little bit like the pop music of most other cultures. BUT, Persian is older than Latin so if you see any similarities in expression (musical or otherwise) you could take a guess at where it's most likely coming from. Plus the latin you're probably thinking of is of the Americas, which is even younger than true Spanish latin.
This song has been ranked as the second best persian songs ever by Iranians. Thank you for your reaction 🙏🏻 Also you can check her new performances and music videos Like Ejaz , Behesht , man o gonnishka , nagoo bedroud , ...
This song is basically sympathy with the swamp . Whom was a fountain water one day. but bad fortune make him a swamp in the desert and he is waiting to dry (and die)

I am seeing my death with my own eyes. It's my destiny, being a hostage to the earth.
There is nothing left of me, these are the last drops. The thirsty earth is taking it away.
I will be dried out tomorrow, when the sun comes up, and sand will fill where once I was. The sand that the wind brings.

In the middle of a bare plain,
beneath the desert sun,
There's an old lagoon,
captured in the land.
I am that old lagoon,
separated from the whole world
The heat of the sun on my body,
The chain of the land on my feet.
I am the one who one day,
wanted to become the sea,
I wanted to become the greatest,
sea in the world.
I dreamed of going,
till I reach the sea,
To burn the night,
till I reach tomorrow....
In the beginning I was a fountain,
under the old sky
But from bad luck
my path turned to the desert.
My eyes, my eyes were set there,
behind that high mountain,
But the hands of fate,
dug a hole in my way....
I fell into the hole,
the soil imprisoned me,
The sky also refused to rain,
it too, was being hardheaded.
Now I'm a lagoon,
a half dead captive,
On the one side I'm sinking into the earth
On the other, upwards to the sky.....
The sun from up there,
and the earth from down here,
they keep vaporizing me,
This is what my life has become.
I see here, my death,
with my own eyes,
This is my fate,
I'm a captive of the earth.
Nothing's left of me,
it's (on) my last drops,
Even this (much), the thirsty soil,
is taking away from me.
I'll dry up, I'll run out,
Tomorrow, when the sun comes,
The sand will fill my spot (my existence)
That which will come with the hands of the wind.....
Beautifully done. THank you.

That’s the best iranian song meaning wise
😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥 thanx. it was perfect. thank u
I loved your reaction!
The Latin sound is because Latin music is the most compatible to ours from all of other western sounds. Most of our previous pop music drew heavily from Latin music.
I am crying 😢 my poor beautiful country Iran
in a naked field
under a deserted sun
me, an old puddle
stuck in the hands of the ground
i am that old puddle
separated from the whole world
the heat of the sun on my body
chained to the dusty ground
i am the one who wanted to become the ocean one day
i wanted to become the biggest ocean in the world
i had hopes to go get to the ocean
burn the night to get to tomorrow
at first being thirsty
under the old sky
but from my bad luck
my way fell in the desert
my eye, my eye was looking over their
behind that tall mountain
but from the hands of destiny
brought me bad luck on the way
i fell into a hole
the dirt prisoned me
the sky didn't rain
the sky was conserving
now i am a puddle
in pain of evaporating
one way i go in the ground
the other way to the sky
the sun from up their
the ground from down here
they make me evaporate
my life became like this
they took me with my eyes
i am dying here
my destiny is this
i am suck on the ground
nothing is left of me
i am only couple drops of water
the thirsty dirt is taking the drops away
i will get end up dry tomorrow when the sun comes
it will make me dry and take me to the sky
Context : I was a beautiful spring with fresh water... I fell in a trap and it changed me to a swamp. .. now I am just a swamp with dirty face
My loveeeee
Mordab is a swamp, a stangnent decaying body of water which will never realize its biggest dream, reaching the ocean (the song assumes every body of water, just like a river, dreams of joining the ocean in the end). The lyrics though about a mordab on the surface is an analogy of unfulfilled dreams and the grief and sadness that accompany such loss.
I think I heard somewhere the clapping etc at the start were added to make it sound like live performance.
It’s supposed to be the sound of the river, but the recording was not the best compared to what we have today of course
We are all here so let's just hang out..love that❤. Love your reactions 🙏
Found it . Mace the version I sent you has English subtitles . Anyway thank you 🙏🏻🌸
This song is super meloncholic.
That was amazing bro🙏🏻
I think her best song in this album was talagh (divorce). You may just need to take a look at her hit songs in 60s and 70s (not all of the songs were popular especially this one).
Please listen to"Pol" by Googoosh
googoosh😍❤❤❤
(One part of lyrics)
I am the one who wanted to be the sea one day....i wanted to became the biggest sea in the world....
I wanted to go to the sea, burn the nights to reach the tomorrow
It's the story of a pond that wanted to be a sea but Difficulties along the way turned it into a (mordab) swamp
I recall my loneliness in back campus with this song.
عالی بود دمت گ رم
very very good
My favourite song bro

Thank you for Persian Persian songs, we all Iranians love you, please go to an Iranian movie React again, of course a new movie, please, thank you.❤❤🙏🙏
You should also react to "age ye rooz"
hey Mace! thanks for reacting to older songs! i would never listen to these if it weren't you reacting to them, you're kinda introducing me to this genre of music from my own country! my Mom loves Googoosh and i certainly listened to most of her songs at some point but now I've got reason to relieve my childhood memories when my Mom used to force me into listening to them 😂 also now I'm getting a more diverse selection of music in my youtube music since I'm listening to these!!
for the meaning of this song it's somehow coincidentally telling her story of life!! it's about a person who gets trapped in the life with no future and not being able to express their feelings or talent. it's crazy that's exactly what had happened to her few years later after this song with the revolution!
Well this is a pop song so it's bound to sound a little bit like the pop music of most other cultures. BUT, Persian is older than Latin so if you see any similarities in expression (musical or otherwise) you could take a guess at where it's most likely coming from. Plus the latin you're probably thinking of is of the Americas, which is even younger than true Spanish latin.
woooooooow👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This song has been ranked as the second best persian songs ever by Iranians.
Thank you for your reaction 🙏🏻
Also you can check her new performances and music videos
Like Ejaz , Behesht , man o gonnishka , nagoo bedroud , ...
This song is basically sympathy with the swamp . Whom was a fountain water one day. but bad fortune make him a swamp in the desert and he is waiting to dry (and die)

Mosafer by her is great too
The lyric is fantastic! You should read about it! And then you will understand the sound effects of the music!
if you really know the meaning of the text. you will definitely cry
