    Thank you, I’m a rescuer and get dogs in sometimes that I know saving the coat will help them get adopted sooner but my groomer wants to shave. Sometimes shaving is the only solution but yesterday my groomer wanted to shave one with a double coat that only had a few mats. This really helped and I got them out myself and saved the coat.

    Hi Jun, I don't your think your weird at all. I think your special and I mean that in the most positive way. You are amazing, so down to earth and honest. If that's weird then I wanna be weird too. You are like a role model to me. I first wanted to watch your blogs because of the grooming. But, you get so much more then just a grooming video. You get life lessons. You help make me a better person. No no no You are not preachy. I love to listen to you thats why I'm here. I need someone like you in my life. I had an interview with Petsmart yesterday. I think it went well. They told me they would call me Monday. You should be an inspirational speaker too. Are you still in GA? I have an aunt that lives in Blairsville. She also lives in FL near me. She drives there every year. Are you near there? She is getting Alzheimer's now and so someone needs to be with her. When she is there my mother usually stays with her for a month. She is there right now with her in fact. It usually takes 9 hours to get there from where I live by car. Id love to meet you. Do you come to Orlando alot? I am 45 minutes south of Melbourne off of I95 and 2 1/2 hours from Orlando. Let me know if are planning anything. Sorry if I haven't been around lately. Is Havanese a new breed? He looks like a Maltese mixed with poodle.

    As a pet owner myself, I am very glad that I get all these informations about taking care of my dogs fur. I am from Germany and our Groomer has never ever told me how to take proper care, just bitching around finding a knot in my dogs fur. I felt like a three year old taking a cookie out of a jar without permission. Instead of showing me how to do it, she rather bitched at me and the final cause of this was. I was searching the internet and found your videos. Finally, I am able to brush my maltese-bolognes mix much better, than I would have ever been able to without your videos. The groomer I went to, sure has never seen me again, because I just felt the bad energy she was spredding and I did not wanted that for my dog neither for me. I got my dog when she was just one big matt, she had never been brushed, so it was traumatising for the little soul at that groomer. Bella, my dog still does not likes to get brushed that much. But, with a lot of patience and spending nights in front of your youtube channel inhaling all the information, I am able to keep her coat much better than it used to be. I am so thankful for you videos and your spirit you have !!!!

    Where are you located? You are so gentle and I love your calming voice. I want you to groom my havanese! She is 6 months and not matted. My last havanese passed 1.5 years ago and we had the best groomer but unfortunately she is no longer around. I have been taking my new pup in for the puppy package....face feet and bum...and she should get a full groom this time.

    That looks like trying to comb cotton. That dog sure is cute. I would think a dog like that would have to be brushed every day to prevent that.

      My Havanese has a lot more hair than this one and I generally comb him out once a week. I find a few tangles and at times matting near his elbows due to his sleeping. I just turn on a Netflix, relax him on my bed and spend about an hour per week combing him out.

    This is wild I have 2 havanese and they have never been matted like this
    We pay over $200 for them to be groomed and the groomers always shave them too short even when we repeatedly say we like to keep them long and we brush them. Good for you but you absolutely need to raise your prices. I know this was posted 5 years ago but still we’ve always paid a mint for grooming. This is mind blowing.

    Hi, I have a 4 year old Havanese that looks very similar to this dog. She couldn't get groomed because of the Covid 19 epidemic and she went for 10 weeks without grooming instead of her usual 4 to 5 weeks. Her groomer finally took her in today and when we picked her up we were horrified. She shaved her instead of her long cut that is similar to what this dog has. She said she was matted, but never told us she would be shaving her. How long will it take to grow out, and what do we do to brush her. I don't want to hurt her with a brush, now that her hair is soooo short.
    We are so upset that she did that and didn't tell us beforehand. She has been matted before, and the groomer has worked around it. But today, our dog looks so sad and nothing like her beautiful self. We would have been happy to spend more money. She charged us $75 and she clearly just shaved our poor little girl.

    Jun, your attitude is very noble, but I **want** to pay people like you for your time... just like I get nervous if my airplane tickets are too cheap!!! Please charge for what you and your family need. That being said, undercharging for some services can drive retention, so also think of your pricing relative to the big picture.

    You seem like such a wise and gentle soul. I would let your customer know how matted the dog is upn their arrival and the time it does take to detangle and charge accordingly and agreeably upfront so there is no missunderstandings from the get go. In between brush outs is a good choice also. Poor dog. It just has tangly hair. Keeping them brushed out is a challange and shaving them seems to be more humane and time saving if owners are not going to spend the time for a daily brush or brush a couple of times per week at least. I wonder what are they doing with the dog besides just having it? After an hour or two the dog needs a break to walk around a bit, go to the rest room and get something to eat/drink. The dog at the two hour mark is pleading enough. knowing the behavior, inate nature of dogs in general and then the specific breed as well as their body language is a must to work with dogs and not against them.

    OMG! I just saw a groomer on the live chat say she's already having back and wrist pain and will be going into nursing for when she can't groom any more. As a disabled nurse, I wish someone had told me nursing is the profession in the US with the highest percentage of back injuries and the average age of retirement for an RN is 52. Believe me, it's not cause we made all our money and could kick back. I probably wouldn't have believed it but it's exactly how it played out for me. I made it 52 when the pain, exhaustion, stress converged and I collapsed. Only way I see to do it is if there's time/money to go on for a masters and get into administration after around 10 years in direct care. I never wanted to leave my patients, though. So, my bad.

That's fair...but it's a LOT of work. I just shaved my Havanese (again!)...how can I prevent the matting in the first place? Weekly shampoos? Daily combing/brushing? Products you suggest for conditioning? You are amazing!

    Jun. You may not change other groomers, but I think you will help pet owners see the need to brush their dogs and cats. And sometimes, like me, we know that, but don't know the best way to do it. So many different breeds of dogs and so many different type coats that they have. It's hard to know the best way to care for it. Then there are the dogs that do not behave well for grooming, and their owners are at a loss of how to deal with it. So they don't deal with it. Lack of proper grooming is not always because the owner is lazy or uncaring.

      I so appreciate this comment. I'm a new Havanese owner. I had a Havanese before but acquired her when she was older and her original owner had died. I was totally unprepared for the 'blowing coat.' I handled my Katie's coat fine but she did not go through this puppy stage and I was not warned. I started out early trying to brush the puppy. She was having none of it. I tried all the suggestions for introducing the brush to the puppy but she only wanted to chew on it...cause she's been teething, too, and chewing on it. I decided to get a grooming table where I could, somewhat deter her from biting at the brush. She was still very brushable with no mats and just a few knots at that point. I'm a disabled nurse and I had to wait for payday to order the table. Then it took a week for it to arrive. Meanwhile, I had to start walking her every day or I'd never have gotten any sleep. Several times the ground was wet. I didn't know about mats/knots getting worse when getting wet. Then the 'blowing coat' started and it was scary watching how fast she became one big felted mat. I got detangling sprays and dematters. I did quite a bit of dematting but it was so far ahead of me I couldn't keep up and I just could not keep my baby on the table long enough to make any headway. She doesn't tolerate it well or I'm not skilled enough at calming her. I called a mobile groomer (I'm homebound). First appt was a week and a half out. Today is the day and I know my puppy will be seriously shaved. I've kept trying all along but it's so out of control. I'm heartbroken to see her beautiful silver coat go but I see no alternative. After what I've been through and tried, it disturbs me to no end to see the comments about owners from groomers. I'm with my puppy 24/7 and, after 28 years practicing as an RN in some very difficult settings, I'm far from lazy. We had some nurses who talked like this about their patients but I always wondered why they went into nursing to begin with. I appreciate so much what you said here. I'm sure the groomer coming today will think all kinds of things about me...but she will be dead wrong. Knowing this was the attitude made me afraid to call a groomer and I probably struggled and put my baby through several days she didn't need to go through because of it. I feel bad about that but now I'll start over as her coat grows and can go slow getting her used to brushing and move forward. Thank you for being a human being who sees other human beings.

      I think when the groomer meets you and hears your story, she or he will be understanding. And maybe give some tips on how to handle her. If not, just keep her fur cut short. Like those cute teddy bear cuts. Paying a groomer can get expensive, though. But the more you can do yourself, the less the groomer will need to do and would charge less. Who knows? You might be able to learn how to do it yourself. If not. cut her coat very short and it will take longer to grow back. After she is shaved, keep her warm and watch for skin irritations. Sometimes carpet and upholstery can irritate the skin without fur to protect it. In the mean time. Look up some training ideas about training dogs for grooming. Jun here could probably help. And Dede at My Favorite Groomer works with clients all the time on how to manage their dogs between grooms. I know some do not care for her, because she shaves every thing, but. She works with a lot of hard to handle dogs. Some that other groomers do not want to deal with. And with clients that can't or wont groom their dogs, so the best thing for them, is a shave or short cut. It also saves the clients money, which might encourage them to come to her more often to maintain the dog. I think different groomers have different types of clients with various personalities, income, and lifestyles. So they specialize in certain services with certain methods of doing the services. At least that is my observation. I have never taken a dog to a groomer, except once to get a dog bathed and it was cold weather, so I had no way of doing it and keeping the dog warm and no way to dry her. A bath and blow dry and a quick run over with a brush to smooth her out was all she got. She was not matted.

    • @mickeyw9360
      @mickeyw9360 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BelindaTN Thanks for that. I did handle my adult Havanese okay but didn't have this puppy stage to go through. I've watched endless videos on line brushing and dematting. I'm hoping with time I can get her comfortable with holding still for me to brush her. I did brush and bathe her a couple of times before the 'blowing coat' showed up so I hope when she's short, we can break it down into small increments daily and I can handle it. Otherwise, I'll keep her short and cute and have her groomed regularly. I lucked out and found a mobile groomer who is very reasonable. They got here about 20 minutes ago and were very nice and understanding so that's a plus.
