Going on 8 1/2 years of playing. At first I didn’t understand the downward tongue motion, but after practicing it a few times I finally got the concept! Sounds much cleaner now. I originally had to learn articulation with beginning band books which are just awful, and they really screwed with my sense of timing (which still needs work.) Any advice on downward tonguing in the bass register?
Awesome! I just started learning last year and I'm the only bassoonist available for my school's band, so I've ended up with a lot of things quite a ways out of my comfort zone. This was really helpful.

Also i need to know how to do pianissimo with all of the notes. Do i need to blow less when i play bass notes? How do i do crescendo? I'm so sorry those are so many question but can you help me? I have a rehearsal and i dont know how to do all of that 😪🔫
@@trinidad808 lots of great questions! Is your C usually flat and you have to use a lot of air to bring it up to pitch? Or is it sharp? If it’s flat, focus on using more air support, which means engaging your abs more to control the airstream (rather than just trying to blow a lot of air). This is also what you need to do to play at a soft dynamic - using lots of air support while keeping your embouchure relatively relaxed so that the sound doesn’t become pinched. When you’re playing low notes, you generally need to use more air to travel through more of the instrument, but more importantly you need to “voice” these notes correctly. Make sure that the opening of your throat is very tall and open to allow for good pitch and response in that register. These are all topics that are hard to address in one TH-cam comment so I recommend trying to schedule a lesson with myself or another bassoonist to go more in depth!
