    Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I hope you have more exciting plans than watching this video. But also that you take the time to watch this video. And if you missed it, I have a related video on making a cute little heart shaped hat to go with this dress : th-cam.com/video/s3a47DKbDMU/w-d-xo.html !

      Watching this video = an excellent Valentine's Day plan (it was yesterday here in Australia). I bought the pink and red version of this fabric when I was in LA last week!

      I absolutely love this dress! It looks so lovely on you. I wish it was much simpler to make as just beginning to sew again. I'd really like to wear 50s inspired dresses of my youth. Ironic that I like this style in my late 60s as my waist left me 10+ years ago.
      Thank you for sharing.

    I've found that making my own clothes has actually helped me to be more at peace with my body. Having clothes that fit well is really good for how I view myself, and sewing also helps my mental health.

    • @sapphirecamui6447
      @sapphirecamui6447 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Not to mention the uniqueness of the clothes - made by you, for you, and using fabrics you like more. Keep it up!

    • @maudline
      @maudline 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Agree! I don’t feel so caught up with sizes since I can drape and alter to my body and size immediately

    • @remarkablestitches
      @remarkablestitches 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@maudline exactly! It reminds me of something Zack Pinsent said once on Instagram, talking about custom clothing. "There is no such thing as sizes, only you-sized". That's helped me ignore the labels on sizes and only worry about fit.

    • @Sewverse
      @Sewverse 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's true, not everything from the high street fits all bodies or you just want something in particular you can't find.

    • @katekilgour4794
      @katekilgour4794 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's awesome! I feel the same, I mean it's not about the size/shape of other people, it's about *you* as an individual.

    That power bar is epic. I need one, because I am constantly unplugging & replugging things all the time! Beautiful dress, so cute. Weird how it looks so different close up than from a distance. In your modeling footage, the stripes all blend to make it look grey.

    • @AngelaClaytonCostumery

    "There is love in my heart, just mostly directed towards my dog" ....I identify strongly with this statement.
    I lost my boy,Bear in January, on our way to the veterinarian I told my husband that I loved my dog more than I loved him...he said "I know honey and I'm ok with it, I had to be to marry you " He's definitely a keeper ❤

    I just enjoy watching you sew, though your historical garments are what I originally subscribed for. I’m particularly loving your self drafted patterns like this one. I completely understand about not loving your body, as mine is a source of negative feelings. Those feelings have lead me to learning to sew so I can create comfortable clothes I actually WANT to wear. Thank you so much for all your hard work and for your wonderful talent. Love, light and blessings to you and yours.

    Beautiful dress! You have a fantastic eye. Very clever. My only other thought was that your body needs to be clothed whether you're happy with it or not. Why not use it to demonstrate that you can fit "problem" areas with success? That is a skill many of those "Runway" designers lack!

      I was at this punk concert filled with guys with spikes and leather jackets and then i saw this lady in her 70s with a poodle skirt and a cute 50s esq cardigan and i will never forget how confident she looked she was the most bad ass person in the room! She inspired me so much! Sometimes being that person to inspire others is worth being a little uncomfortable at first. i try to remind myself often of a quote my therapist told me. "We can choose courage or we can choose comfort, but we can't have both. Not at the same time"

    Happy Valentine's Day from Australia. Thank you for what you said about your body and that had stopped making everyday dresses for yourself because you were feeling happy about it. I am so please that you are feeling better about yourself, I understand where you are coming from and am pleased that someone else said it out loud about themselves. I love the love heart hat with this outfit!

  • @evonaagrochowski8006

    I absolutely, love your hair style,..! Happy Valentines day,...!! I went to Jo Anns, last week and found some fabric that really slapped me, silly across the face, so I purchased some what over 10 yards of it,..! Not cut all at one time, but that s okay, so long as I have it, that s what counts, now I have to find a place to store it, today and tomorrow. I actually watched a CD Couture video on how to make something like I plan on doing, this helped me out, quite a bit, as far as ideas go. Oh and my puppy dog, just turned 1 year old, he was actually born on Valentines day,..! A day to remember,.!

    How gorgeous is that dress. Have you ever sold one of your creations? Do you have labels with your brand name sewn on the inside? You are young and beautiful. If you are lucky to have healthy body and all body functions work, be happy with your body that takes you through your journey. Keep sewing, you are an inspiration. Just listening to your commentary teaches me about sewing.

    You and your amazing creation are beautiful. I know you said you didn't quite like how broad you made the shoulders but in my opinion it really accentuated that gorgeous flit and flare skirt. I love that silhouette type and wish I could understand pattern drafting well enough to create that pattern for my body type. I completely understand the feeling of not quite liking our bodies. Those moments get me sometimes too. You have an amazing skill that lets you tailor what you wear to suit your style and preferences so keep flaunting all your amazing creations. Just remember it's you that makes the garment look great, not the other way around.

    I LOVE the trimming you used!!!! I think it would have looked totally awesome in a tight pencil style skirt, but that is my preference. It is suck CUTE fabric. I would use both proudly. Awesome heart dress. I prefer black heart and well roses to.

    I love how your hair added a pop of red to this Valentine's Day outfit. It reminded me of the old film trick of having one person or item be colored in a black and white movie in order to symbolize life and hope in a dark world.

    It's so satisfying when every single seam is properly finished. I like watching you because you love French seams as much as I do!
