I used to run in a lot of cinema circles where we'd talk heavily about movies. Not just arthouse films or indie films, mcu and star wars and horror films would come up all the time. This nerdstalgic guy sounds like what we used to call a "told-to" film fan. It means he was told to watch the films he loves and recites what he read about those movies. He never made his own opinions on the films he watched and fell into the same hole of "themes and subtext matter more than the film" mentality. The worst is that these people make the worst takes when it comes to "low class" entertainment. These 'anti-showa' videos remind me of that so much. If it wasn't for the showa era, we would have half the things from japan we love.
The person behind Nerdstalgic sold off his channel to a media company and it's just a low effort content farm now. I think all he does is read the scripts. Edit: I don't think he even does the reading anymore, there's a new voice reading out the scripts. I think the original person behind the channel is long gone.
They can’t, ppl forget Godzilla is famous because of his era of monster stomping and not because of Gojira. It’s worse than fans saying Space Godzilla is his strongest opponent lmao
@@train_go_boom2065 he isn’t Destroyah is Destroyah can take hits from his red thermal atomic breath while most monsters actually get beat up when Godzilla brings that out. That happened in Space Godzilla (if you ever decide to pay attention) But if we want to include the Netflix anime, that ghidorah is the strongest opponent. But Mecha, muto prime, and Destroyah counter Godzilla whereas Space Godzilla does not. Take down his tower and he isn’t a problem at all.
I love the godzilla community man. When pretentious video essayists try to critique (specifically the monsterverse movies) we all collectively go "there's merit dude, you don't gotta be so deep about it". We don't say "godzilla is perfect and always has been", we understand our big G is flawed and we love him anyway!
I hate how people use Godzilla Minus One as a weapon against the Monsterverse. These are two completely different universe's. If it wasn't for Godzilla 2014, we would have never gotten Shin Godzilla (2016) and Godzilla Minus One (2023) because the Monsterverse revived the Godzilla ip/character. And if it wasn't for Godzilla 1954, we would have never gotten the Monsterverse, so what I'm trying to say is people need to respect the Toho movies and the Monsterverse the Monsterverse has opened up Godzilla to such a broader audience so this is why I show so much respect to the Monsterverse and the Toho movies.
^THIS. Toho has got to be happy as hell to have top-notch Godzilla projects being made on both sides of the Pacific! And we should be happy about that too!
@TWDub I find it odd how you say you're not trying to "shit on the parade," yet you're being so overly argumentative and personal about absolutely nothing. They made a simple statement, an opinion, and you go on to write a bunch of malarkey to be some sort of contrarian. You can say you're not trying to do something, but your actions imply something entirely different.
@TWDub With all due respect, this is such an excessive response. The lad above clearly didn't state something that should provoke this rant, even it the rant itself makes decent points.
Most of them 100% haven't watched the 1954 film, they just say 1954 and minus one are the only good ones because no one talks shit about 1954 so it MUST be objectively good.

To be sure, this is a lighter incarnation, but is certainly no less valid and true to the character's roots as the tortured avenger, crying out for mommy and daddy."_** ~ Bat Mite, Batman: The Brave and The Bold.* Change up a few words and it applies to Godzilla as well.
To be fair that is pretty fast for a film series of this budget and scope, to get the CGI, effects and the monsters to look that amazing in such time is nothing to scoff at Not defending the clown obviously but simply being devils advocate

If it’s the former, then that’s not professionalism. By that logic, I can read books on how to be a policeman and claim that I am a police officer despite not actually experiencing it. I do not get their point of "Godzilla movies can't be taken seriously because outrageous events happen within them." Especially since they're also trying to talk up Minus One in the same breath. They do realize that Minus One... also features a several story tall bulletproof lizard firing atomic lasers to destroy buildings? It's almost as if... suspension of disbelief is a thing that allows people to bridge the gap between being entertained by fantastical ideas and still learning grounded morales/lessons from them.
@@joshuafischer684 In my opinion Godzilla x Kong is the peak of the monsterverse because it shamelessly focuses on the fun aspect while still delivering an emotionally investing and completely unrealistic story
The worst thing about Godzilla Minus One...is the endless wannabe movie essay writers coming out of the woodworks trying to capitalize on the hype all trying to make views/subs/money. Dr. Skipper is the worst case because even when he acknowledges his screw ups, he still keeps that video up so he can keep making ad revenue.

Biolante needs to be brought into the legendaryverse. The first time around was ahead its time with Bio's practical affects and looks. Can only imagine what can be done today.
Ever since Minus One came out we’ve had a slew of so called “experts” about Godzilla when in actuality they’ve either never seen more than a handful of movies or just straight up don’t like the franchise. Yes, Minus One is a good movie. It doesn’t make the Monsterverse bad movies though. Godzilla has either been serious or goofy before, it’s just how the franchise has been.
People don't take into account the target audience especially in the first era. Post 1954 the movies got more family friendly and aimed at kids. The next era and millennia were more serious and were tantamount to a Marvel movie. Intense action but very little to give kids nightmares. Then came Shin and Minus One. These are the studio going back their '54 roots. While '54 is oh so tame by future movie standards it was not a goofy family friendly movie either. These three are the movies that drive hard the point of man's sins(nuclear weoapons and pollution plus inept government for Shin) coming back to bite them hard.
"legendary has no faith in its audience" is that why they catered to the memes about godzilla and kong running and made the poster of the movie based on that scene?
I know, right? it was so annoying and such an attack on the community when a stranger on the internet said "hey man I prefer the more serious godzilla movies" yeah so glad we collectively got together to bully him

All of those things, show, that Dr Skipper never did even any basic research on godzilla and has no idea, what he is talking about.
1998 was actually a really good box office success. The only "American" Godzilla film that didnt do that well was KOTM 2019 and it still didnt flop, it broke even and a little bit extra. Did better than Marvel films in recent years. Clearly people like it or at least enjoy it.
I'm getting really sick of people trying to drag everything into their Star Wars/Marvel culture war, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish got the exact same treatment by video essayists as Godzilla Minus One last year. The fact all of these people barely do any research or none at all shows how much they see Godzilla and kaiju movies as being beneath them despite these same people misunderstanding them completely. The argument that the MV is soulless and only a money-grab is also ironic when many of these topical video essays are released to ride waves of clout and ad-revenue.

The MonsterVerse is not all bad, it’s the recent entries that let me down.
Are all Godzilla movies deep, dark and serious metamorphical dramas? No. Is it a problem, that many of them are dumb fun with just subtle subtextes? Nope, fun action movies are good too.
the only bad thing the monsterverse did was bring in a bunch of media-illiterate children who act like critiquing a movie means you hate it and who think they know everything about kaiju movies in general
Godzilla is such a complex character with so many iterations, saying all his movies except the first and minus one suck means you don’t understand Godzilla whatsoever. Godzilla can mean anything and be anything, that’s why he is still around. Also fun fact, the director of minus one says he likes the monsterverse. End of discussion.
@TWDub Godzilla is at his best when he is portrayed as a malevolent, yet tragic monster who acts the way he does because he is legitimately hurt and lonely because of the bomb. He can have his moments where he saves the day, and he can have his moments where he is the bad guy. Both are acceptable, as long as that extra heartbreak is there.
@TWDub I see your point. I was just saying that this whole idea of “everything but the original is bad because it’s serious and the rest aren’t” is a pretty bad way at looking at a 70 year old franchise with about 40 films and a couple shows Also the thing about the minus one director liking the monsterverse, you are completely correct, I don’t know what I was thinking when I said that
@@Electro21964that’s your opinion and you are entitled to it. However I respectfully disagree, as I prefer Godzilla films where he’s fighting other monsters in an attempt to protect the balance of nature.
You know ever since the recognition of Godzilla minus one and how great it was of a movie I feel like people try to put down the monster verse because he’s not up to par standers of being serious, but yet those people forget that Godzilla shouldn’t be tied down to one thing we have our serious Godzilla, we have our Godzilla, who is action pack, and we have other variants of Godzilla somebody else said it better than I did but at the end of the day it’s Godzilla and comparing minus one to GXK really it’s just headache because these are two different continuities with the same IP. Think someone else said without monster versus Godzilla. There wouldn’t be minus one because Godzilla IP was gonna be retired but since 2014 came out, it pushed Toho forward to continue Godzilla now we got shin Godzilla Godzilla earth, and Godzilla singular point. If you can't handle high concepts and weirdness in a sci-fi/fantasy film, that genre is not for you.
all these "critiques" of godzilla we've been seeing recently ALWAYS seem to forget about shin godzilla. praising minus one as a "RETURN TO FORM!!1!" when they literally produced one of the best godzilla films in 2016.
For real though, Emma Russell is a great character once one comprehends that she's a *villain* created by rationalizing her trauma through the lens of her training as a scientist AND that the movie tells the audience that she's come to the *wrong* conclusion AND that she realizes her mistakes and *personally sacrifices* in order to solve the problem she enabled. With that rant over, I now commend you on your excellent rebuttal of Nerdstalgic!
@@nonamecommenter3005 logic: “I have caused millions of lives to be lost so in order to redeem myself I have to kms” Plus, her plan was so unbelievably stupid that I didn’t even take her seriously at all 😂
@@Izywik90 So by "her redemption" you mean her corrective action? *I* didn't say the word *"redemption",* you did. I didn't say she undid the damage she caused, either. My point is that Emma acknowledged her fault in causing an *ongoing* disaster and made the ultimate sacrifice to *end* it. You said it "didn't mean anything." Of course it did. Heading into the middle of the battle of Boston, repairing the Orca, and drawing Ghidorah's attention away from Godzilla, meant the difference between THE END OF THE WORLD and the ending we got. And her decision to stay behind in the city with the device instead of leaving in the osprey meant ensuring her own death so that everyone else aboard the craft could escape with their lives instead of risking them all at once. Now you don't have to find her initial plan sensical, but my point was that there was a certain logic to it from the perspective of a scientist that studies the Titans, warped though it may be. Remember; Emma said her plan resulted from her trying to find meaning in the loss of her child's death and the conclusion she came to was that it was the collateral damage of a necessary process. She argues that if the Titans aren't allowed to roam free, that the planet will never regenerate fast enough to outpace the damage humanity is doing to it (humanity's own environment) and thus, *all life on earth,* which includes *every human,* will cease to exist. If you are detached enough to weigh outcomes by the overall numbers of lives lost (and she was), than anything less than ALL OF THEM is the clear choice. A flaw in her plan, as pointed out by the major scientific players on the Argo, is that it has too many unknowns. Though once again, Emma doesn't believe there's enough *time* left to risk her worst case scenario from playing out before a better solution can be discovered, let alone implemented. Her logic is at least as sound as that of the MCU's Thanos, so if her plan is bad, then so is his, but the point in either case isn't that their plans are *good,* it's that they don't feel contrived within the narrative while driving conflict.

Hot take. Gatekeeping a fandom can be a good thing, if we call out pretentious “purists” that only hopped on because it was fashionable. Godzilla doesn’t need any fake fans
Its Ironic. Both sides that are calling for gatekeeping are the very ones that need to be gatekept OUT. You have the wokies who want to change everything like its the ship of thesius and not even have the balls to do something INTERESTING or good with those changes. Then you have the dumbasses who want it to either be pure escapism or power fantasies (so Anime Fans if I wanted to piss off an entire community). Nerdstalgic is just as much in need to be kept OUT of fandoms as left leaning hacks like Jim Sterling. Neither of them are good for the long term health of a fandom. And you wanna know why? Because both are hellbent on making it about the Culture War. Once something gets dragged into the Culture War by either political side, its gonna be fucked. Disney irreprably fucked Star Wars by calling all critics of the Sequel Trilogy Far-Right bigots.... which only enabled and platformed the REAL Far-Right bigots as they were looking for an audience, and those that Disney pissed off became that audience.
The MV KoTM despite having a terrible antagonist was extremely enjoyable. The amount of nods and references to older Godzilla films are plentiful, they even used the OG goji theme and his OG roar. They did an excellent job modernizing all the monsters from the toho films. Rodans awakening to when the alpha call was made was absolutely peak kaiju cinema. To say that movie was just a cash grab is an olympic stretch, there was so much soul in there. I also enjoyed Skull Island and GvK they were both good films. Minus one was a blessing and a curse lol
I'd like to point out that Nerdstalgic (and many other channels like him) made their careers by pretty much milking the MCU, so any criticism towards the Monsterverse's pacing, over the top concepts or value it's completely hypocrite from their part and should not be taken into account.
Recently I've seen more people hating on May. And I think Emma was fine. It shows how dangerous grief can be when you're not thinking straight, and also gives her a worthy sacrifice.
I go to a Godzilla movie to see Godzilla. The one thing the Monsterverse does better than Minus One is that it focuses on Godzilla. When he's not on screen, every character in the movie is still talking about him, to some extent. His presence is felt throughout.
My first Godzilla was the 1998 adaptation when i was a kid, and I absolutely loved it. When the 2014 adaptation came around, it confused me a bit simply because I wasn't aware of the original movie and its sequels, and so I started doing research and my love for Big G and the franchise as a whole was forever solidified. No matter what take of Big G we get, I'm always gonna be there because the world of the Godzilla mythos is sooo massive and amazing.
Glad to see that the 1998 film started you on the path to being a fan of the Big G. It isn't a perfect film, but both it and the animated series that was the sequel to the film introduced new fans to Godzilla--like you. The more Godzilla fans we have, the better!
Yeah that was my kick start introduce to Godzilla. Whem 2014 came in, I started to learn about Godzilla and look up the old ones and I respect it all even the OG "54 grandpa Goji and few bit with 1998 Zilla.
I guess not everyone is as deeply invested as we are, fans of godzilla franchise, therefore making them glossed over the finer details of the franchise. I am not a godzilla connoisseur by any means, the only movies i have watched are the monsterverse movies, minus one, 1998, and the millenium era movies, but i still love the godzilla franchise. I love it for what it is, great monster designs and fun action. I feel like you don't need to be so invested in a franchise to like movies that came out of it. On the other hand, if you want to make an analysis on a franchise, then you have to get deeper, you have to invest, you have to research. Without it, then it just gonna end up baseless and even insulting to the fans.
I'd say the 1954 film is still darker because Minus One while still a dark film does have its moments of brevity and it's actually much more uplifting than people give credit for.
I think the reason Minus One has so many rabid fans is because it stands head and shoulders above nearly every movie that came out in 2023. Bigger than the Monsterverse, 2023 was not a great year for film. Yes, Oppenheimer was incredible, but the rest of the film landscape was mostly mediocre. And then Minus One shows up being as good as it is almost unannounced. And don't forget that there are a lot of people who dislike modern Hollywood trends. Regardless of the way you might feel about it, there are people who see things they dislike in Hollywood and this movie is absolutely devoid of those things.
nah I disagree, Minus one is dark but it has a pretty uplifting ending, compared to 1954 where the ending is pretty dam sad (because Japan is now forced to survive in a ocean that is now a radioactive wasteland, which means that their main source of income is now gone)
Well, that's not gonna happen. The studio that created Gamera once asked Toho if they could do a collaboration once, and Toho said no. This was years ago though, so I don't know if sentiments have changed.
I am a simple man. I saw Minus One, Minus One had a good story, while still giving me Godzilla. Monsterverse gave me Godzilla, which while having a lower quality story, still gave me big lizard blowing stuff up. I like both, one for story, the other for uproarious fun.
Honestly i just see the monsterverse as a win-win for both Godzilla fans Toho gets to keep making their godzilla films (hopefully there's gonna be another era of films like heisei or showa and not just many one off godzilla films) while America gets to keep their version of godzilla which i love because they're making Kaiju movies fun and it's exciting to see what toho monster gets adapted next or what new ones arrive for kong! it's like the MCU but it's kinda consistent?? I wanna say? it's the only Cinematic Universe untainted by like 'oooh multiverse!!' which don't get me wrong, IS cool if done right like Spiderverse/No way home

@@MrAwsomeness360 No Toho's rights didnt expire in 1966, in fact they literally made a King Kong movie the next year. They swapped Kong with Godzilla then made King Kong Escapes in 1967.

This has been my problem with Minus One ever since it came out. yeah, it's a good Godzilla movie, but the best one that has ever been made? very debatable, especially since it has so many similarities with Shin Godzilla. if anything, Toho has made the same movie twice in the past decade. heck, I saw so many comments of people saying they're tired of always seeing Godzilla fight another monster, but when the sequel to Minus One was announced saying that Godzilla would be fighting another monster in this film, those same people were jumping for joy. they can't decide which side of the fence they are on. MV Godzilla is trying new things and clever ideas. The Hollow Earth, the nuclear tests in the pacific were actually attempts at killing monsters, the war between Kongs and Godzillas, famous monsters from ancient mythos were real like Ghidora being the Hydra and the new monster Scylla, giving all the monsters their own unique personalities like having Rodan his own version of StarScream, and of course... Doug. saying the MV has always been trash is ignoring all of this. I'm not going to fully defend MV. I can't recall a single human character by name. it doesn't have the best writing when it comes to human characters. but the MV is bad as a whole and always has been? that is far from true.
It doesnt matter what the opinion of the video in question is. GxK is laughing all the way to the bank. Audiences love the MV the way it is. It doesnt need to be deeper.
how toxic Godzilla fans can be 1. they think Minilla solos MV 2. using Minus One as a tool against MV 3. Heisei vs Goku Heisei Neg diff -Average Toxic fan
Yeah I hate the "Transformers" comparison with the MonsterVerse because the MonsterVerse for their faults have heart and passion behind them despite not as ambitious as "Godzilla Minus One" and the monsters are either the main character of the film or have enough presence within the story in ways the Transformers always felt shafted in their own films.
For the Monsterverse films, there are a lot of takes you can make with it. That they're more "braindead" than god tier written films, that they're just "popcorn flicks," that they don't have as powerful of a message as X Y and Z, etc. You know, _completely subjective takes._ But when you say that the Monsterverse is "a series of films that everyone is collectively shocked is still going," you've made an objectively incorrect take. That's a "I wasn't on the internet at all between the first Godzilla vs Kong trailers being released and several months after the movies were released" level take. I really liked the movies, but I barely watched _any_ videos about them on TH-cam. Yet I still got _bombarded_ by videos about them up until now (which is how I'm here). If you watch any video involving a modicum of hyping up any character, you will see footage from the Monsterverse pretty often. You watch any video of any paleo media, and you'll see Monsterverse footage sprinkled in every now and then. You watch any video discussing any action game, and you'll come across Monsterverse footage more often than you'd think. I'm genuinely curious about who's shocked the Monsterverse is still going. That's like being shocked the MCU was still going post-Civil War.
People are trying to put godzilla into this 'high-art' concept just because minus one, won an Oscar. They dont realize that only happened because Hollywood is absolute trash. I love godzilla, but to hear people talk about it like its been a long time coming is honestly embarrassing. Keep my godzilla out of your odorless fart filled rooms.
So many of these essays come off like their creators just found out about Godzilla yesterday, and are trying to pretend they always liked the films, acting like they know more about them than they really do.
I love how people compare the different Godzilla interpretations like they're competing against one another when in actuality, they offer different interpretations for different people to enjoy
I’ve spent 40 years of Godzillas 70 year history loving the big G. I came from the days when all you could get were the Showa era films and only more recently (early 2000’s) had access to the later Heisei and Millenium series. Minus One was the film I have wanted for 20 years, and it is the quintessential Godzilla film in my opinion, but my love of Godzilla stems from the films like Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla. I don’t demand my Godzilla films be serious or silly, I only ask that they be earnest. I want the filmmakers to care more about their story than profits. Even if it isn’t the greatest film, if it is an earnest attempt to make a Godzilla film it will be better than a soulless cash grab. I have my own opinions about the Monsterverse and whether or not each film is a successful interpretation of Godzilla, but all these videos about Godzilla being made by people that only just now learned anything about the franchise is painful to watch. I would respect the opinion of someone that thinks the Monsterverse is better than any of the Toho movies, even if their are wrong in my mind, more than any of these channels seeking clicks for a Godzilla video because they think he’s popular now.
Most of the godzilla movies have lessons to learn or mesaages to share. For example in Tokyo s.o.s its message was to not mess with the dead. At 15:44 what is nerd talking about....People dont care much about the humans they are more of a side story and they did try to make characters to relate and no one talks about them afterall most of us just want to see the king of monsters do what he does best...being the King of monsters
People outside the franchise forcing their way in just to tell us as fans that everything we have enjoyed so far is wrong, awfull and childish, just to tell us that their vision of the franchise is better and that things should be as they want in order to improve a franchise and a character they don't know anything about in the first place. The same problem that happened with Star Wars back in 2013 tbh, but Lucky for us all of this pretentious critiques live only on the depths of TH-cam and don't own the IP.
ok let me debunk all people who say there is no care in the films. gkotm people took problem with how dark the film was. the next film gvk the lighting was improved completely with beautiful camera work and shots completely removing an entire problem with the prior film and taking it further. problem fans had fixed in one film. and in the 2014 film people were unhappy with the lack of godzilla for most of the film the next film gave the action people asked for in kong skull island and gkotm. even if people find new problems they put in the work to fix them that is care for what your making.
>thinks pink spined godzilla and robot glove kong are absurd and therefore bad >also thinks a dinosaur mutated by an h-bomb that regenerates like fucking wolverine is deep both concepts are equally as insane but apparently one is better than the other
That's a really bad argument, unless you believe the latest Legendary movie is as profound as Minus One you're just avoiding the point TRYING to be made (cuz it's still a bad point to make).
I don’t get it why Nerdstalgic has such a weird memory of the 2014 Godzilla movie. EVERYONE was making fun of it because Godzilla was chonky and he’s only in 15 minutes of the film. I know cuz I was in high school and how disappointed we all were. Find any review from 10 years ago taking about it and the consequences was the movie kept cock-blocking the audience. Of course Legendary changed direction. We asked for less humans and more monster. Plus, now we get thoughtful science fiction Japanese film and very VERY fun science fiction action films. That’s a 200% increase of the thing I like and I get to enjoy both. Gatekeeping showa era fans and monster verse newcomers like this is bs. It’s like when the dark knight trilogy had a stranglehold on Batman and decided he needed to miserable for 20 years. Also, pink Godzilla is awesome, you know they’re fake fans because they wouldn’t criticize pink if they actual saw Shin Godzilla, ya know, the film that brought Godzilla back to it’s serious roots of horror. Also I thought we were decades past the “pink is gay” era of humanity.
Minus one may be good but it gave birth to a whole lot of snobs and people who say they are fans but going by the shit they say like MV does Godzilla wrong or Japan can only get it right shows how little they know about the franchise.
The sheer irony of Nerdstalgic’s claim that the Legendary Monsterverse movies are just cash grabs and nefarious money making schemes with no thought or care put into them, meanwhile Nerdstalgic makes a quick, thoughtless review to capitalise on the current trend and hype of GXK New Empire just so he can submit to YT’s corporate algorithm and ad revenue. Film criticism is dead.
AVGN perfectly described Godzilla franchise in one way: “Monsters beating the hell out of each other and blowing the fuck out of everything in sight.” Whether it’s Toho, Tristar, or Legendary, Godzilla never changes. He will always be the King of the Monsters. Toho created the monster and brought about different messages, Tristar revamped the franchise with their film and animated series; which in my book is a true tribute to Godzilla, and Legendary turned Godzilla into a defender of earth who helps keep the balance and kill bad Kaiju. No matter which version we get, it’s all the same. Godzilla smashing shit up, killing monsters, and sending a message to us as an audience. Godzilla to me is the unstoppable immortal franchise.
Why does every one of these pretentious anti-Godzilla essays seem to think that Godzilla is only relevant in Japan and the US? Do they think Europe, India and Africa don’t get any cultural impact on films? Do they think those countries don’t exist? Such blind, bias patriotism. Godzilla has had much of an impact on the world.
In general the worstthings about the monsterverse are some characters just simply not being that good. But to say they have no story is flat out wrong. They have flaws but they're still fun and pretty good movies overall.
These are the same people who used to be hardcore defenders of infinity war and endgame and talked about how it was so much better than Star Wars, but the MOMENT Martin Scorsese said that they weren't real cinema and RLM said that they were right and only manchildren were upset at him, they INSTANTLY turned on the MCU and said it was all bottom of the bin (I mean to be fair, the new wave 4 movies do seem pretty bad outside of the handful of good ones, but still).
I'm just starting the video but I want to say this. Because of how humans incorporate their own experiences into their writing, I believe that the more serious atomic disaster version of Godzilla can only be portrayed by those whom suffered from nuclear disasters. That being said, American blockbusters filming style is grandiose and exorbitant by design, which when coupled with our countries sensibilities, has resulted in American Hollywood having a much easier time in emulating the wackier goofy style of Godzilla's Showa era. I enjoyed both Minis One and GxK. I can appreciate what each one was going for and how they both used the vehicles of Kaijus to tell very different stories
Thx for the comment, but I'm not sure if I agree with your sentiment here. People do utilise their life experience in writing, however it's not always in a literal sense. If what you're saying is true, then we wouldn't have minus one or Oppenheimer. None of the people working on either of those films suffered from the aftermath of the atomic bomb. A writer/director might not have experienced the bombs dropping, but they might have had a close family member pass away, and so they can relate to, and write about that experience. Even if that wasn't the case, it's their responsibility to do the research and fill in the gaps.
Maybe young Americans weren't very familiar but I grew up with the Japanese films on TV all the time. We use the name all the time to mean a big thing. There a stupid reality show called Bride-zilla. The Monster-verse is fun if not deep. Minus One & Shin Godzilla were much more thoughtful for kaiju films. We can have & enjoy both.
What really annoys me is how those same “fans” really love to ignore what really made the MonsterVerse truly special…it’s very unlikely rise to this level. Pre-2014, NOBODY would have ever guessed a Godzilla led film series would become possibly the second most successful shared universe behind the MCU. Considering how the DCEU was expected to compete with Marvel but fizzled out fast. So many failed shared universes over a decade….yet the MonsterVerse is still standing. It makes me sad how almost nobody ever brings this up. Instead it’s the same old “these are just DUMB movies” or “Minus One is the only good G film.” As a Godzilla fan for over 36 years, I’ll will be forever grateful for to Legendary for the MonsterVerse. I’m thankful for Minus One as well.
I love the monster verse Godzilla but I also enjoy the old style Godzilla that terrorizes Japan So we should just stop comparing these two and just enjoy them for what they are
Also quick fact, pink is a clever color for a form with higher radiation, as purple and pink reach the highest of the visble light energy scale, and as purple is Shin's color pink was a good way to show Godzilla's growth in power while give him his own identity.
This was a pretty good response to that vid man, and I nearly agreed with everything you said. The only things I don't agree with you on is what you said about Emma Russell, and the Jurassic World Movies/Mario Movie not having good stories.
I actually liked how Emma was portrayed for the most part. I think her character deserves more credit tbh. However, it's no secret that she's widely hated by fans and casuals alike. That's why I criticised Nerdstalgics for showing her as a good example of a human character. As for Jurassic world, and the Mario movie... Yep they suck lmao. Well, imo at least. I get why people enjoy em, but they're not for me.
@@maximumqualitycontent3921 It's nice to hear you say that about Emma, since I feel she gets WAY to much hate for. (Which I don't fully understand why people still hate on her even now, since she died in the end anyways... So... 🤷🏻♂ ) I do have something to say about what you said about the JW Movies & Mario Movie. Because when it comes to the JW Movies, they actually do a pretty good job at furthering on the lore and world of the JP Franchise. Especially since Dominion. (See FilmSpeak's vid on Dominion for a good example.)
And as for the Mario Movie, I'll admit that the story was very simple, Mario has kinda always been very simple when it comes to storytelling in general, outside of the RPG's. So I wasn't expecting it to be THAT DEEP in terms of storytelling. Plus, a simple story isn't automatically a bad, and as a general fan of Mario, I enjoyed it a lot. But at the end of the day, this is all just my opinion.

The person behind Nerdstalgic sold off his channel to a media company and it's just a low effort content farm now. I think all he does is read the scripts.
Edit: I don't think he even does the reading anymore, there's a new voice reading out the scripts. I think the original person behind the channel is long gone.

These three are the movies that drive hard the point of man's sins(nuclear weoapons and pollution plus inept government for Shin) coming back to bite them hard.

all these "critiques" of godzilla we've been seeing recently ALWAYS seem to forget about shin godzilla. praising minus one as a "RETURN TO FORM!!1!" when they literally produced one of the best godzilla films in 2016.
You can like Minus one, and you can like the Monster Verse, you can do both.
can't believe media literacy is DEAD
Uhm ackshually, Gobzilda is a methawhore for slug addition and if you disagree with my oponion on this work of art you have no media literacy.
Her redemption didn’t mean anything lmao
@@Izywik90 Why not?
@@nonamecommenter3005 logic: “I have caused millions of lives to be lost so in order to redeem myself I have to kms”
Plus, her plan was so unbelievably stupid that I didn’t even take her seriously at all 😂
@@Izywik90 So by "her redemption" you mean her corrective action?
@@nonamecommenter3005 by teaming up with eco-terrorists who knew EXACTLY who Ghidorah was and capable of without getting suspicious and put her daughter in danger, sorry but that’s just stupid. Hot take. Gatekeeping a fandom can be a good thing, if we call out pretentious “purists” that only hopped on because it was fashionable. Godzilla doesn’t need any fake fans
Hard agree, we need to keep the posers out!
This is what gatekeeping is all about. Most people just mistake it for elitism.
Agree, but some people think "Gatekeeping" shoukd just be keeping out people in general sadly
I have faith in Toho and Legendary to bring entertaining monster movies to the silver screen then into my collection.
I'd like to point out that Nerdstalgic (and many other channels like him) made their careers by pretty much milking the MCU, so any criticism towards the Monsterverse's pacing, over the top concepts or value it's completely hypocrite from their part and should not be taken into account.

Fr, no one hates a franchise/movie more than its own fanbase
Where?
@@edorasmarauder5761 look harder
Is bro actually yapping? The monsterverse is doing just fine, and I would say much better than the other cinematic universe also made now.
Everyone when 2014 came out: not enough godzilla!
People now: it’s just a cgi fest with too much monster!
Can’t win
most MV haters simply hate it because its CGI or because its not Japanese, they just come up with the biggest excuses to hate them
Godzilla minus one is just as dark as the original 54 gojira yet cranked up to 100
I'd say the 1954 film is still darker because Minus One while still a dark film does have its moments of brevity and it's actually much more uplifting than people give credit for.

Because that movie was originally meant to be a King Kong movie, but because Toho let the rights expire, they inserted Godzilla into Kong's role.
@@MrAwsomeness360 No Toho's rights didnt expire in 1966, in fact they literally made a King Kong movie the next year.
My man's just doesn't like giant monsters bashing it out. Every single movie doesn't need to be a serious parallel of real life problems.

You know, _completely subjective takes._
But when you say that the Monsterverse is "a series of films that everyone is collectively shocked is still going," you've made an objectively incorrect take.
I appreciate someone defending the MV cos it gets a lot of slack from minus one fan boys. (Haven't watched the movie myself)
Especially consider Ishirō Honda himself made some of the goofy entries they're crapping on.
The same problem that happened with Star Wars back in 2013 tbh, but Lucky for us all of this pretentious critiques live only on the depths of TH-cam and don't own the IP.
ok let me debunk all people who say there is no care in the films. gkotm people took problem with how dark the film was. the next film gvk the lighting was improved completely with beautiful camera work and shots completely removing an entire problem with the prior film and taking it further. problem fans had fixed in one film. and in the 2014 film people were unhappy with the lack of godzilla for most of the film the next film gave the action people asked for in kong skull island and gkotm. even if people find new problems they put in the work to fix them that is care for what your making.
>thinks pink spined godzilla and robot glove kong are absurd and therefore bad
>also thinks a dinosaur mutated by an h-bomb that regenerates like fucking wolverine is deep
both concepts are equally as insane but apparently one is better than the other
That's a really bad argument, unless you believe the latest Legendary movie is as profound as Minus One you're just avoiding the point TRYING to be made (cuz it's still a bad point to make).
What movie with a dinosaur that regenerates comes from?
AVGN perfectly described Godzilla franchise in one way:
“Monsters beating the hell out of each other and blowing the fuck out of everything in sight.”
Whether it’s Toho, Tristar, or Legendary, Godzilla never changes.
Get this man some views.
AND I THOUGHT THE WORST GODZILLA COMPLAINTS WERE THAT THE GODZILLA MOVIES WHERE JUST POORLY WRITTEN MOVIES WITH GUYS IN RUBBER SUITS
Keep gatekeeping, godzilla community. Stand firm.

Instead it’s the same old “these are just DUMB movies” or “Minus One is the only good G film.”
As a Godzilla fan for over 36 years, I’ll will be forever grateful for to Legendary for the MonsterVerse.

I do have something to say about what you said about the JW Movies & Mario Movie.
