I used to run in a lot of cinema circles where we'd talk heavily about movies. Not just arthouse films or indie films, mcu and star wars and horror films would come up all the time.
This nerdstalgic guy sounds like what we used to call a "told-to" film fan. It means he was told to watch the films he loves and recites what he read about those movies. He never made his own opinions on the films he watched and fell into the same hole of "themes and subtext matter more than the film" mentality.
The worst is that these people make the worst takes when it comes to "low class" entertainment. These 'anti-showa' videos remind me of that so much.
If it wasn't for the showa era, we would have half the things from japan we love.

The person behind Nerdstalgic sold off his channel to a media company and it's just a low effort content farm now. I think all he does is read the scripts.
Edit: I don't think he even does the reading anymore, there's a new voice reading out the scripts. I think the original person behind the channel is long gone.

I hate how people use Godzilla Minus One as a weapon against the Monsterverse. These are two completely different universe's. If it wasn't for Godzilla 2014, we would have never gotten Shin Godzilla (2016) and Godzilla Minus One (2023) because the Monsterverse revived the Godzilla ip/character. And if it wasn't for Godzilla 1954, we would have never gotten the Monsterverse, so what I'm trying to say is people need to respect the Toho movies and the Monsterverse the Monsterverse has opened up Godzilla to such a broader audience so this is why I show so much respect to the Monsterverse and the Toho movies.

People don't take into account the target audience especially in the first era. Post 1954 the movies got more family friendly and aimed at kids. The next era and millennia were more serious and were tantamount to a Marvel movie. Intense action but very little to give kids nightmares.
Then came Shin and Minus One. These are the studio going back their '54 roots. While '54 is oh so tame by future movie standards it was not a goofy family friendly movie either. These three are the movies that drive hard the point of man's sins(nuclear weoapons and pollution plus inept government for Shin) coming back to bite them hard.

Think someone else said without monster versus Godzilla. There wouldn’t be minus one because Godzilla IP was gonna be retired but since 2014 came out, it pushed Toho forward to continue Godzilla now we got shin Godzilla Godzilla earth, and Godzilla singular point. I won’t get into specifics about those animes, but anyhow and including - one, 2014, Godzilla gave new life, the IP and a franchise bringing something new anyhow, that’s all I have to say about Godzilla and for you MQC I’m gonna leave you with this MQC You ascend alongside with the light of the sun to guide you to your ambitions don’t let the chains of the night bind you down no matter what persevere to your goals. @@Izywik90 So by "her redemption" you mean her corrective action? *I* didn't say the word *"redemption",* you did. I didn't say she undid the damage she caused, either.
My point is that Emma acknowledged her fault in causing an *ongoing* disaster and made the ultimate sacrifice to *end* it. You said it "didn't mean anything." Of course it did. Heading into the middle of the battle of Boston, repairing the Orca, and drawing Ghidorah's attention away from Godzilla, meant the difference between THE END OF THE WORLD and the ending we got. And her decision to stay behind in the city with the device instead of leaving in the osprey meant ensuring her own death so that everyone else aboard the craft could escape with their lives instead of risking them all at once.
Now you don't have to find her initial plan sensical, but my point was that there was a certain logic to it from the perspective of a scientist that studies the Titans, warped though it may be. Remember; Emma said her plan resulted from her trying to find meaning in the loss of her child's death and the conclusion she came to was that it was the collateral damage of a necessary process. She argues that if the Titans aren't allowed to roam free, that the planet will never regenerate fast enough to outpace the damage humanity is doing to it (humanity's own environment) and thus, *all life on earth,* which includes *every human,* will cease to exist. If you are detached enough to weigh outcomes by the overall numbers of lives lost (and she was), than anything less than ALL OF THEM is the clear choice.
A flaw in her plan, as pointed out by the major scientific players on the Argo, is that it has too many unknowns. Though once again, Emma doesn't believe there's enough *time* left to risk her worst case scenario from playing out before a better solution can be discovered, let alone implemented. Her logic is at least as sound as that of the MCU's Thanos, so if her plan is bad, then so is his, but the point in either case isn't that their plans are *good,* it's that they don't feel contrived within the narrative while driving conflict.

Toho gets to keep making their godzilla films (hopefully there's gonna be another era of films like heisei or showa and not just many one off godzilla films)
while America gets to keep their version of godzilla which i love because they're making Kaiju movies fun and it's exciting to see what toho monster gets adapted next or what new ones arrive for kong!

The reason Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster is a Godzilla movie instead of a Kong movie is because it was supposed to tie into the Rankin Bass TV show. But Rankin Bass didn't like the script. This has been my problem with Minus One ever since it came out. yeah, it's a good Godzilla movie, but the best one that has ever been made? very debatable, especially since it has so many similarities with Shin Godzilla. if anything, Toho has made the same movie twice in the past decade. heck, I saw so many comments of people saying they're tired of always seeing Godzilla fight another monster, but when the sequel to Minus One was announced saying that Godzilla would be fighting another monster in this film, those same people were jumping for joy. they can't decide which side of the fence they are on.
MV Godzilla is trying new things and clever ideas. The Hollow Earth, the nuclear tests in the pacific were actually attempts at killing monsters, the war between Kongs and Godzillas, famous monsters from ancient mythos were real like Ghidora being the Hydra and the new monster Scylla, giving all the monsters their own unique personalities like having Rodan his own version of StarScream, and of course... Doug. saying the MV has always been trash is ignoring all of this.
I'm not going to fully defend MV. I can't recall a single human character by name. it doesn't have the best writing when it comes to human characters. but the MV is bad as a whole and always has been? that is far from true.

For the Monsterverse films, there are a lot of takes you can make with it. That they're more "braindead" than god tier written films, that they're just "popcorn flicks," that they don't have as powerful of a message as X Y and Z, etc. You know, _completely subjective takes._
But when you say that the Monsterverse is "a series of films that everyone is collectively shocked is still going," you've made an objectively incorrect take. That's a "I wasn't on the internet at all between the first Godzilla vs Kong trailers being released and several months after the movies were released" level take. I really liked the movies, but I barely watched _any_ videos about them on TH-cam. Yet I still got _bombarded_ by videos about them up until now (which is how I'm here). If you watch any video involving a modicum of hyping up any character, you will see footage from the Monsterverse pretty often. You watch any video of any paleo media, and you'll see Monsterverse footage sprinkled in every now and then. You watch any video discussing any action game, and you'll come across Monsterverse footage more often than you'd think. I'm genuinely curious about who's shocked the Monsterverse is still going. That's like being shocked the MCU was still going post-Civil War.

I’ve spent 40 years of Godzillas 70 year history loving the big G. I came from the days when all you could get were the Showa era films and only more recently (early 2000’s) had access to the later Heisei and Millenium series. Minus One was the film I have wanted for 20 years, and it is the quintessential Godzilla film in my opinion, but my love of Godzilla stems from the films like Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla. I don’t demand my Godzilla films be serious or silly, I only ask that they be earnest. I want the filmmakers to care more about their story than profits. Even if it isn’t the greatest film, if it is an earnest attempt to make a Godzilla film it will be better than a soulless cash grab.
I have my own opinions about the Monsterverse and whether or not each film is a successful interpretation of Godzilla, but all these videos about Godzilla being made by people that only just now learned anything about the franchise is painful to watch. I would respect the opinion of someone that thinks the Monsterverse is better than any of the Toho movies, even if their are wrong in my mind, more than any of these channels seeking clicks for a Godzilla video because they think he’s popular now.

I know cuz I was in high school and how disappointed we all were. Find any review from 10 years ago taking about it and the consequences was the movie kept cock-blocking the audience. Of course Legendary changed direction. We asked for less humans and more monster.
Plus, now we get thoughtful science fiction Japanese film and very VERY fun science fiction action films. That’s a 200% increase of the thing I like and I get to enjoy both. Gatekeeping showa era fans and monster verse newcomers like this is bs.

AVGN perfectly described Godzilla franchise in one way:
“Monsters beating the hell out of each other and blowing the fuck out of everything in sight.”
Whether it’s Toho, Tristar, or Legendary, Godzilla never changes. He will always be the King of the Monsters. Toho created the monster and brought about different messages, Tristar revamped the franchise with their film and animated series; which in my book is a true tribute to Godzilla, and Legendary turned Godzilla into a defender of earth who helps keep the balance and kill bad Kaiju. No matter which version we get, it’s all the same. Godzilla smashing shit up, killing monsters, and sending a message to us as an audience. Godzilla to me is the unstoppable immortal franchise.

Because of how humans incorporate their own experiences into their writing, I believe that the more serious atomic disaster version of Godzilla can only be portrayed by those whom suffered from nuclear disasters.
That being said, American blockbusters filming style is grandiose and exorbitant by design, which when coupled with our countries sensibilities, has resulted in American Hollywood having a much easier time in emulating the wackier goofy style of Godzilla's Showa era.

If what you're saying is true, then we wouldn't have minus one or Oppenheimer. None of the people working on either of those films suffered from the aftermath of the atomic bomb. A writer/director might not have experienced the bombs dropping, but they might have had a close family member pass away, and so they can relate to, and write about that experience. Even if that wasn't the case, it's their responsibility to do the research and fill in the gaps.

Considering how the DCEU was expected to compete with Marvel but fizzled out fast. So many failed shared universes over a decade….yet the MonsterVerse is still standing.
