The scene with Muriel will forever remind me of a kid playing pretend and the parents humoring it, like they think she is cute and just let her stay naive
Timeline wise, Aziraphale saw Crowley disappear in the cemetery and then didn't see him again until the scene in the park where Crowley asked for the holy water. You can see how Aziraphale would have put it together that Crowley was looking for a suicide pill. Who knows what kind of trouble he'd been in since he got caught doing something so nice.
Actually, Aziraphale wrote the journal entry a month after the events of said entry, so this means that Crowley was gone no longer than a month since Aziraphale says "That was the last I was to see of Crowley for quite some time" not "I haven't seen Crowley since then". This means that at this point they were meeting up regularly so a month seemed like a long time to go without seeing one another. It's likely that Crowley was more reserved and did less good after this event, leading to Crowley asking for Holy Water and the two having an argument. If you think about it, Crowley asked Aziraphale for "insurance" in the form of Holy Water. If he had spent the whole time in Hell, there would be more "I'm so glad you're alive!" and the thought that he would want the Holy Water to prevent that from happening again by either destroying other Demons in an escape plan or destroying himself so he didn't have to go through it again, and Aziraphale wouldn't know which one he meant. But if he had been spending the last few decades more withdrawn and upset about his month-long visit to Hell, Aziraphale would have seen his downward spiral and assumed he intended it for self-destructive purposes and there would be no reunion scene, which is what happens in the show. This also connects with him sleeping through most of the 19th century, because sleeping is one of the things you do when you're in a period of depression, so he probably would be spending a lot of time sleeping both before and after his falling out with Aziraphale. Finally, the theory that Crowley just went to bed after their argument and didn't wake up until he had to save Aziraphale from the Nazis doesn't really line up with their more casual interaction. It's likely that they met up at some point between the argument and the Blitz, but parted ways on a more tense note than usual, hence the "What are *you* doing here?" "Stopping *you* from getting into trouble!" They probably resumed meeting up but not with as much frequency as before, hence why Aziraphale doesn't know what Crowley has been up to lately.
Fun fact. The scene with the Bentley. The Benty is actually pretty sentient & likes Aziraphale. When Crowley threatened to start selling Aziraphale's books it was the Bentley that changed its color back & sped up. Youll notice the gas pedal presses without Aziraphale touching it b/c it didn't want Aziraphale to be sad by Crowley's threats.
i love the scotland flashback so much bc it's buckwild hilarious how david tennant just got to unleash his scottish-ness but also the story of it was still impactful!! so glad y'all enjoyed it too
It's funny how Aziraphale starts talking and Elspeth immediately calls him out for being English, so Crowley decides to start speaking in a Scottish accent so he seems more personable. Perfect excuse for Crowley to suddenly be Scottish while Aziraphale isn't.
Maggie (the record store owner) and Nina (the coffee shop owner) were two of the nuns in the first season, and Shax, the demon who replaced Crowley, was Madame Tracy, the fake psychic and part-time sex worker, in the first season.
And Mrs. Sandwich, the woman in charge of the ‘seamstresses’ is the same actor who plays Despair in Sandman! Love the Sandman/Good Omens crossover 😴/😈😇
I love the concept that the Bentley has it's own personality based on who drives it; like a couples pet/'fur baby'. It even tries to follow Azzey after they park it!
Allow me to explain the timeline, so basically back in the 19th century Azy invited Crowley to Edinburgh to see Gabriel's Statue cause it's accurate resemblance to Gabriel, there they crossed paths with the poor girl who rob corpses and the surgeon who buys them, whom later ends up getting caught and nicknamed "The Resurrectionist". In the present, the only clues they have as what happened to Gabriel's memories and why both Heaven and Hell are looking for him are that Gabriel has quoted the word of God talking to Job and sang Everyday by Buddy Holly which keeps mysteriously playing on a jukebox at a pub named 'The Resurrectionist" which so happened to be named after the surgeon and it giveaways matchboxes with its name and the quote "out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out"- Job 41:19. So every clue comes back to that pub and they now know Gabriel has been there in multiple occasions meeting someone. PS: Both flashbacks triggered by the clues are essentially to show that Crowley is not evil as Azy also questions God's decisions (questioning God is what let Crowley down to becoming a demon) and they are and have been for ages a sort of a team.
You guys are possibly my favorite Good Omens reactors because I love watching your kitty getting her lovin's while you talk about the show. ❤ (I have 6 cats myself)
Angel Muriel is a new actor I believe, but Maggie, Nina and Shax were Sister Theresa Garrulous, Sister Mary Loquacious and Madame Tracy in series 1 respectably.
😂 I know, I meant more how they used to be part of formal/fancy attire, like everyone wore them. But now they aren’t worn while being “dressed nicely” - John
laudenum = original opiates, Crowley basically chugged a full glass of morphine to save Elspeth and have a perfect excuse (being high af) while doing it
Laudanum is a combination of opium and alcohol, so you basically get drunk and high at the same time. Crowley drank a large amount of high concentration, enough to kill a human.
The "demon" Jimbriel is voicing when he gets into his kinda trance, is God, at least at the Job minisode. When Crowley says "tempest" that triggers him to quote from Revelations. And yes: there will be a third season, it's just been greenlit. Gaiman and Pratchett had developed a plot for a sequel of the first book and this season leads up to that plot. It's a bridge between s1 and s3.
That gorgeous street with the coloured shopfronts and the cobbles is Victoria Street/Cowgate in Edinburgh and I know it well. When it appeared on the show I was excitedly going "I've been there! I've been there!". I was then in Edinburgh last week for the Fringe Festival and instead I stood on it excitedly going "This is in Good Omens! This is in Good Omens!" (It's also a pretty popular filming location generally!) The actual pub they redressed as the Resurrectionist is in reality a couple of miles away. The magic of editing, eh?
this is my favorite episode of the whole season--the story is lovely and (I think) really highlights how in touch with humanity Crowley is---he's not tempting people to do bad, he understands that being a human is hard and you can't always do the purely good thing (Aziraphale trying to get Elspeth to see that poverty is good in the long run because she doesn't have harmful attachments, but Crowley's like "bro she's gonna die if she doesn't have a little money"), plus we get to see the unleashing of David Tennant's Scottishness and Crowley being extremely high
Shax can't go inside the bookshop because it's technically still heaven territory, kinda like vampire rules she needs to get asked in first!! also, side note, Muriel uses they/them pronouns
Just found your channel and love it! Rip wee Morag. What Dalrymple is doing with the bodies was wildly popular in Edinburgh around that time. There was a famous medical school there and the young doctors needed fresh bodies to work with so grave robbing was a big business around that time. As a matter of fact there’s a famous true story and movie about William Burke and William Hare-two grave robbers who eventually became serial killers in order to provide fresh bodies for a doctor at that medical school in the early 19th century. There’s a pretty good dark comedy movie about Burke and Hare.
Three more, boys... oh man, can't wait to see how that moment got you. Personally? As a fan who read the book ages ago, who adores the show, it shattered my heart. It is truly strange, watching someone consume the show whose main interest is not the relationship between Crowley and Aziraphale.
I love how Aziraphale (or the car itself) changes the car's color to yellow "because it's pretty" (what color are Crowley's eyes?) and Crowley is just having a cow over it.
A freemason lodge is what you call the place the freemasons gather to hold their meetings. Pretty sure the barman thought they were freemasons because they were dressed strangely and acted odd. And we have some prime examples for that sort of behavior in this episode... 😉
Totally agree with you on the hats. We need to bring big hats back. Also, Muriel (and Beelzebub and a good chunk of the angels and demons) are distinctly lacking in gender and thus go by they/them. Do you think Mr. Dalrymple might come back next season? They said why happened to him but didn’t go into detail and it feels like a lot way deliberately left out. The witchfinder gun from season 1 was also said to have belonged to someone named Dalrymple, so he might be more important than the story is letting on. The thing about Beelzebub being nice: you’ll see. So much of this season makes more sense in hindsight. The flashbacks, the small scenes that seem insignificant…
@@Lilithly throughout this, Crowley is pulling his romance tropes from the movies (one big kiss, anyone?) and Aziraphale from Austen and period romances. But even if he saw wet humans under awnings in movies, the very first kindness he experienced after the Fall (probably the only kindness he received for at minimum 1500 years) was being sheltered from the rain (and in the same way he’d sheltered Aziraphale from the stars). They’re both operating on human media playbooks because neither knows how this is supposed to work.
Yes, you’re right. Gabriel was citing Bible and foreshadowing the Second Coming of Christ. It will be Apocalypse Version 2.0. Every dead will rise from their graves, Jesus comes back and Heaven and Hell will destroy the Earth and Humanity.
Grave add ons used to be really popular! Cages to protect from grave robbery, and there was also a period where there were alert systems where they'd have bells attached to your hands inside the coffin in case you were accidentally buried alive! Full spectrum! Now people are just like idk flags and flowers. Boring!
The actresses that play Nina and Maggie played nuns in s1. Also Muriel and Beelzebub use they/them. And the voice talking through Gabriel is God. Gabriel is god's messenger
Highly suggest rewatching the flashback part of this episode if you have some time, i feel you missed a couple of pretty important "plot" points and character development, tho i totally understand we would rather hear you react than silently watch hahaha so hard!
Demons are fallen angels. I don't know whether they can make new demons who just start as demons, but I believe in this mythology humans in Hell are just the damned. Although if Crowley were a human sent to Hell, I do strongly suspect he could talk his way into anything. I also think we only see Heaven's corporate headquarters, where the angels are. At least I hope people who go to Heaven are getting something better than this sterile white nothingness.
The parts of Heaven and Hell that we see are the corporate offices. We see the process where humans in Hell go through the check-in lines in the Hell offices before going down chutes to their spot in the human area of Hell, but we don't see the Heaven check-in desk so we don't know how Heaven works for humans yet.
Just a reminder muriel the angel who investigated this episode is actually nonbinary and goes by they/them, easy to miss but they never call them she in the show

That car scene had me laughing so hard 😂
He turned it the exact color yellow as Crowley's eyes.
