Hey, before putting apart the pallet, look at the seals that are printed at the sides (normally they printed them on the blocks of the pallet). The first two letters are the country (ES, UK, PT), then a number (the code for the company that does the treatment) and finally the code for the fitosanitary treatment (HT is high temperature-> should be safe for the stove). Hope it helps! 😊
This is correct as I use them to build my raised beds to grow veg, as these pallets are not chemically treated. Just one other thing to add, any pallets that are painted red or blue get rid of them straight away as they are chemically treated.
Very good and informative answer. To add on, it might be useful to know that instead of "HT" for Heat Treated" it would say "MB" if the pallet has been fumigated with methyl bromide. Such pallets should never be near your soil or put on fire where you might breathe in the fumes.
A little candle wax rubbed on sticking edges of trays might help. You could use soap to rub edges but not on trays with food. I hang a bunch of stuff in my home with the wood stove going. A couple of hooks from the rafters or off the walls or even a drying rack for clothes can be used. I hang net bags for the stuff that is tiny like herbs. We have lived on our land for over 40 years and there is never enough hours in the day for all that needs done but we love it!!!

Harriet, you are simply fabulous! Love to watch your progress! And Mauro, you are wonderful too, since you produce the finances to make it all happen! Looking forward to next sunday!
My grandmother made fantastic dried fruits. She did not cut the plums, they dried up great. She also prepared apple and pear cutted round slice. Love your enthusiasm! 💗
Harriet, it seems, through the way you organize about all sorts of country needs, that you've been always involved in country life. You're amazing at doing everything you want to. Mauro is so good and, when he is able to stay more besides you, things will work even more smoothly. Go on, you too. Love your vids.
I'd be interested of a video where you just draw out your ideas or garden beds! Then your subscribers can pitch ideas or things that didn't work for them. Kinda like crowd-sourcing a homestead.
Save the wood ashes from your fires. Test your soil, if it is acidic you can use the ashes like lime to bring the ph down! Good channel. Keep up the good work! JIM 🤩
I watch out for a new video everyday, lol! Can't get enough of your little Spanish farm, you and Mauro. I am so glad you and your hubby will be together. I always admired your fortitude and ability to get on with projects whilst living alone. I work for myself from home and find it hard to use all my time productively. With love, from the USA
After you use the plum for jam or juice you can actually make plum juice "pulp bread". You can also just substitute part of the water amount in a bread recipe with juice, be it carrot, beet or plum. Pulp bread is delicious. So happy for you both to be Home! Congrats on 30K You guy's deserve it 🥳

So pleased for you both. You will be able to share your life together. I love watching your videos they are so different from my life. Blessings from Canada 🇨🇦
Hi - I've enjoyed these and have binge watched a lot of them over the last couple of weeks since discovering your channel. Pallets and decking wood [much of which I get for free when people want to get rid of it or replace it] are great building materials. My wife and I over the pandemic tidied our garden and then, when we ran out of things to do, asked our neighbours if we could do theirs as well. Both neighbours have new sheds built from scrap wood as well as lots of planters and raised beds all made from recycled wood. For the sheds we used pallets as the frame and then, instead of covering them in mud [like you did for the goat shed?] I stapled polythene [or a piece of tarpaulin] on the outer side and then clad it with pallet slats. On my most recent one I even got as fancy as making a herring bone pattern with them which looks quite nice and building them this way makes them quite weather proof and robust. Good luck with your 'workshop'! I shall watch with interest.🙂
Your idea of adding the "green manure" to the trench should work very well. Adding the same, or perhaps a grain between for either "manure" or food (goats, you, chickens) should keep far more moisture in the ground, build soils, and definitely benefit the trees over the long run. Leaves could also be spread around after those seeds sprout, putting a bonus layer on. You've got lots of stone, so maybe play around with it to make small stone oven, roasting pit, or even get bold and put a stone wall on the wood "shed" just to learn how stonemasonry works.
I love the way you make things, I made a gate at the bottom of the garden to stop cats tearing round the corner after the birds, it's cobbled together with odd pieces of timber, held together in part by mesh fencing, a few twigs were included, some cable ties etc. It's no work of art but it works, has hinges, catches to fix open or closed. A bit of imagination & you can do anything, your drying shelves & wood store are testament to that.
I had 5 large tomatoes plants in back and made my own mulch. I may have used the mulch before all the alive stuff was dessicated and attracted ants for a start. There was a little black bug that would eat other bugs so I never used any kind of soap.
I discovered your channel only recently and I'm watching your old videos as well. Each time I go to your channel to watch another video you have 💯 new subscribers. That's amazing 👍 It's really a joy to watch your channel. Greetings Heidi 👩🌾💕
You two are a great team! It takes many different talents and skills to do what you're both doing! I really enjoy your content, you both work very hard😊
He empezado a hacer compost en maceteros grandes. Me has inspirado viendo tus videos. Un saludo y ánimo, a seguir así. Good morning Little Spanish Farmstead. Wow. Truly an excellent video with superlative production values and your construction skills are outstanding - but that's of course to be expected from such strong self sufficient women such as yourselves. Thanks so much for sharing your life update.
I think it is wonderful that you want to be part of that community...That means success for you and Mauro...Unity is the way of the future and it starts now....
You can always use the dehydrator next season so good you made it. In NZ our pallets are stamped. DB = debarked so treatment goes into the wood, HT =, heat treated so safe, KD kiln dried so safe,, DH= Di electric heated - electro magnetic heated and MB = methyl Bromide so toxic do not use for anything. I like the rows where you can grow large quantities.
Congratulations to Mauro on making the move! Things look like they are growing very well there, and the dehydrator is great, I hope you get some warm weather at the end of the season to allow you to get a lot of produce dried. A fencing bar might be a useful birthday/christmas present, I find them better for breaking ground when digging holes and trenches, they can take the back-breaking out of the work compared to picks and mattocks.
@@dorothyallen3614 it's essentially a long crowbar, preferably with a spade type end on it. Healthier lifestyle for example, is priceless. Thank you for providing encouragement as I too try do the same on a smaller scale here in the states. 🇺🇲 I'm definitely going to copy your version of a solar dehydrator for the start of next season.
The drought is over for sure! I hope your method for sowing green manure works, and that the drying rack proves useful. I love the way Oona is at your side whatever your project. Glad to hear that Mauro and you can reside together now!
Nice job taking the pallets apart! Brings back good memories :) We are also starting to experiment with green manure here in Portugal. Thanks for sharing :)
Nice to meet you at Dirk and Kitty's place. Abby told me about your you tube channel. I am gonna be one of your followers now! Keep up the good work! 👍💪❤

I must say, if I was alone there for days at a time, I'd have at least 2 of the biggest German Shepherds I could find. Of course, I usually have 2 big German Shepherds. Maybe that's just me. Beautiful video. Your farm and house are really coming along. Very happy for you both.
@@BakerWild The German Shepherd is easy to train, fiercely loyal and protective, and a lot of the time just knowing they're on the property is protection enough. Plus they're great dogs. But I'm glad to know she's safe

If you have a way to raise it high where it’s warmer, put it on a pulley to lift it out of your foot path and do your drying inside the house or in your kitchen area!
Super smart actually to be broadcasting seed in the rain or just before the rain starts. Not only does it get the seeds to germinate quickly as long as the rain is on the warm side but also it prevents the birds from being attracted to all the seed and eating up most all of your seed and then broadcasting the seed often places that you don't want it or that the neighbors don't want it. Two thumbs up for rain broadcast seeding!!
❤ love your channel and what you are doing on your homestead. Autumn here in the states. We are the city on about 1/8 acre. Bring all of tropical houseplants are the greenhouse to the winter early before our first frost. We plant vegetables in containers. I am going to plant clover in the yard next spring as for cover yard and wild flowers to do away the typical grass lawn
I like your style and thinking! When I was your age and in different circumstance, I was the same way💛 ENJOY your many adventures & projects and would love to know how you Spicy Plum Chutney turns out. Sounds interesting! It will be exciting to see your winter crop of green manure growing this winter!
There are long handled Carpenters nippers that may make pulling nails out rather that using a home hammer or a framers hammer may make pulling nails easier.
I just love all your videos. So glad Mauro is back at home now. You'll be fantastic as a team and get so much more done, but of course money does help. Cant wait to see your progress.

Besos❤️❤️❤️
You probably should look for battery tools drills, sawzalls circ . Saw that will run off the same battery. Arobi makes such tools. Having clamps are always good to have and save time.
Wow! everything looks so LUSH! What seeds are part of your green manure crop please Harriet, the first one? I am really interested in this flood irrigation system. Are your channels intended for the water and the plantings will be on the berm eventually? I'm trying to align it in my head with the swale/berm system i'm planning on using. When pallets are soaked they are easier to take apart, they do require a good soaking though. That flood irrigation system looks interesting.

Bring all of tropical houseplants are the greenhouse to the winter early before our first frost. We plant vegetables in containers. I am going to plant clover in the yard next spring as for cover yard and wild flowers to do away the typical grass lawn
Normally pressure treated time has a greenish tinge from the tantalised precess
Take a look at The Dutch Farmer (he's in Portugal on TH-cam) and the use of Swale's for water retention. lots of good idea's and techniques, love your work.
Besos❤️❤️❤️
Mucho éxito en vuestras decisiones, seguro!!!!
Love, love, love your dehydrator, i wondered whether they were a prune type plum when i saw you pick last week. I'm glad you have Mauro with you now ❤
It’s so inspiring to see all your hard work at how you are making your property so beautiful
It's very nice watching the farm coming together . I'm not sure about Europe but mostly pallets are just heat treated in the states so you might want to treat them for long term items.
