Think of it as insurance. You've got to pay premium till expiry to the company. In this case you're an option buyer (paying premium in hope of assuring; insurance amount, yourself or your family, if someone bad happens)and company is seller.

I wonder, it is said that option trading is zero sum game. That means when someone profits then other one loses.
If it's like engineering entrance exam. Only ranks matters not score/ percentage.
