    I hope you'll enjoy this very peculiar town (only 9 residents! Of course many have their 2nd homes here anyway), made famous by *Escher* in one of his work
    (link here = www.wikiart.org/en/m-c-escher/castrovalva )
    A Huge Special "Thank You" to the *New Patreon supporter, Catherine R.* !

    There you go, casually walking down the street, when suddenly something catches your eye. You stop, turn, and go back a couple of steps just to show us some beautiful yellow roses in the window. Riccardo, it's these little delights that make your videos stand out from the others.

    This why people should know that Italy is more than just Rome. The beautiful villages with green hills, parks, plazas, gardens, and wonderful finds around every corner. This is the Italy I remember and thank you so much Riccardo for bringing and sharing to everyone on your channel.

    • @StillWanderer
      @StillWanderer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed Lawsonartzy! In a way... when I started more than 2 years ago, the idea was just that,to show the unusual towns and to let people know that there aren't only Capri, Positano, Rome, Florence and Venice... in tiny yet mostly unknown towns, there are some hidden gems which are incredibly stunning and of extremely high artist value. Who knows if the channel will grow more... I hope to show more

But it's a stunning scenery drive from the valley up to the town. The problem is finding a spot to park the car, but on the long stretch of road that ends up in the town it's possible to park on the side, though if you need to get back, you need to turn around the car and.... it was rather tricky)

That is what we love about Italy is the preservation and celebration of Italian culture and history. Gorgeous views and town. Too bad only a few residents. But only noticed one Vendesi sign. Jim & Betty, Thank you so much , indeed you've been among the Earliest Fans and Supporters and I never forget that and I'm always thankful for this guys Guys!
      Loved this town very much; I knew it before, as I love Escher, though I never went....as far as I understood there are really only 9 permanent inhabitants, but the others have their 2nd-homes there for sure. I saw actually a couple more "Vendesi" before leaving, especially on the southern part where I couldn't film as they were making some restoration on the pavement. I noticed 1 bar and a small shop (very small) at the end of the walk, though I suspect the majority of groceries and stuff are bought a little bit away from it, n the nearby town of "Anversa degli Abruzzi" (I'll show this walk video of this town in the near future too!). It's quite close by car, maybe 15-20 minutes or so.
      The problem I found with Castovalva is parking the car. The stunning road finishes basically where I started filming and cars were parked on the road itself. To "turn around" the car and go backward toward the valley was a little discomforting, but it's possible. Some cars as you saw entered the village but stopped near the bar!

    It's really amazing how all these medieval towns in center Italy, small or large share the same architecture, well preserved for such a long time. Their ancestors really appreciated God's creation and capitalized on it. Hillside towns, surrounded by mountains. The artist, name, Escher could be derived from the same Biblical name "Esther". )) Not many tourists in these towns I show... they are not as famous as other ones, even though they should be more famous. And many people are not living there anymore :/

    I wonder what the people did for a living back when this town was built. I don't see any farm land around

      Good question... There are Avery thought not easily reached or seen. Mostly it was agriculture back then ...

    You would have to be very fit to live in this place as it is obvious that driving cars there would be impossible -even a bike would be hazardous!

      Indeed Kalo, it isn't definitely easily accessible. There's a tiny parking spot before the town itself, and the people mostly park on the road. It's quite hard to make a "turn-around", as I had to experience it myself. Lovely place anyway, loved it to bits
