Hi Mr. Holmes. I had up to five Johnson D fareboxes powered by a single battery charger. I haven’t operated the fareboxes in years and one day decided to power them. To my surprise, my batter charger is missing! I was told by a friend knowledgeable with these fareboxes that I need to get a 10amp,12 volt “stand alone” charger, capable of charging a completely dead battery. Question: Does the charger have to have these exact specifications or do I have some leeway? Are there alternatives to power the boxes besides a battery charger? I have no mechanical or electrical skills and would appreciate your input.
Thank you from the San Gabriel Valley.
Thanks for your interest in the videos, these D boxes are fascinating. Personally I think 10 amps is low I would recommend a power supply capable of 20 to 30 amps. I use a Banshee motorcycle battery to power my boxes and it works great. Hope this helps...
Thats a really cool and interesting mechanism. Great work!
Thanks! I love vintage technology
