    I considered myself very fortunate to have lived in Vegas in 1980 for a summer while performing at the Aladdin in an ice skating show. Only 21 at the time, young and fun...enjoyed the experience. Went back on a U.S. tour in another show. To see these hotels that no longer exist is heartbreaking. As they say; change is inevitable. I would ride a bike from the apartment we lived on Flamingo to the Aladdin, perform two shows a night and ride back home. Ahhhhh...the glamour of bright lights and razzle dazzle. LOVED IT!!!Haven't seen the "new Vegas". Not sure I want to, seems to have lost it's character and charm as I remember. Thanks for posting Miss Vegas back in her day!

      Its cliche but it was much better and for sure more affordable in 80s. I worked at Bellagio 9 years and went to Wynn after. Great money. Should of never left Bellagio though.😊

    I wish I would have been old enough to visit Vegas in the 70s or 80s. It's still a fun place, but the $8 bottles of water and $60 buffet gets old fast.

    I grew up in Vegas from 75-87. My dad was a bartender at many great long gone places including The Keyboard Lounge under Harry Wham. The new Vegas can’t hold a candle to the old days.

      Yeah, just think. In a few years from now, or even today, people will be looking back at their first trip to Vegas and remembering the Castaways as that hotel that we all knew as the Showboat, but the REAL Castaways was the quaint, friendly little place across the street from the Sands.

      @@luisacardet5907 Budget-wise, yes it was, although, it has a lot more to offer today, such as more sporting events, shopping, exclusive restaurants, conventions for just about anything that pertain's to an individual's interest, and nightclubs. That is if you or I were able to afford it. all. I look back at the days when my brother would visit and stay at the Sahara or Bally's but when he began to stay at the Mirage, Bellagio, and Wynn. Those are some beautiful places with some overpriced but decent fine dining.

    We used to go to Las Vegas "in the Old Days" and miss it very much. The service was the best as was the food, entertainment, and gambling action. Las Vegas really knew how to treat its guests. Even when you lost money (frequently!,) there was something about the vibe of that town that just made you want to return. Great memories !

    Don-O... I LOVED the old Vegas AND I was a HUGE KDWN fan as well. I remember visiting with my family when I was 12 ('77) and was HOOKED ever since. I had the pleasure of meeting some of the old time DJ's from KDWN in the early 2000's - Great heritage there... When broadcasting meant something. BTW, I lived in vegas in the early 2000's and have to say I DO NOT LIKE the NEW Vegas for 100's of reasons... I wish it "could" come back... sadly, never. Thank you for this..

    I prefer that version of Vegas to the one now. I've visited 22 times from UK from 1990 to 2016 and I've seen a vast amount of changes but sadly now not for the better. Casinos are greedier and hotels are getting greedier too (resort fees), themed resorts are getting less and less unique so that's why I wish it had stayed like the pics shown here

    • @thatDonOguy
      @thatDonOguy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed with everything you said except the culture. The city has none. Transient ppl from all over the states. Outside the strip the city has tried so hard to create" districts" like the other big cities but it feels so fake. Very little sense of community although that in a sense has gotten better. Much more than just a gambling city today. Although i wish the population was back like mid 80s.

      Thats not necessarily a bad thing Lol. Some of the more affordable buffets in the late 70s and into the 80s were quite good. The Mint and the Maxim were superb and the Palace Station/s were also a favorite for me and my father mainly because they offered unlimited steaks. The Circus Circus in the early 70s was also impressive and was on the upper level with a view of the midway and casino. Unfortunately when they moved it downstairs and it became the "Super buffet" the quality of the food plummeted.
