In Indian mythology, rivers are personified as women and stories of yore are written of their power and strength. Our journey this season follows the rivers of India as they meanders through civilisations past, and touch lives present, binding communities together with strength and wisdom.
We draw inspiration from the spectrum of colours they reflect- silvery blue, white and grey, fearless Indigo and charcoal, and calm yellows and pink- a reflection of the flowers that dress them in love and the prayers carried to the Gods. Intricate weaves from the fertile river banks of the east and embroideries from the salt deserts of the west make up this collection of rich detail.
If you pay close enough attention you’ll even notice the stories of the women these Goddesses inspired. Designers and Artisans who are changing the socio-economic realities of the villages they live in by celebrating their first steps towards economic independence.
As winter turns to spring and water’s frozen constraints break free, Anita Dongre Grassroot follows the River Ganges as she brings the world to full bloom.
