I really wish they added .338 lapua ammo with this update. Would have been an easy fix to add some extra power. Was super excited for the 338, but after this, looking forward to the 7mm most for sure.
For more power, i wish they would make a 375 or 416 instead of a 338. The 7mm is the best for sure, esp for class 6 stuff. I can fold a wt and moose pretty good, but mulies and red deer dont drop as often for me if i miss the heart as the current 4-8 do not double lung as reliably for me at longer shots.
I have a soft spot for bolt-actions, there's jsut something satisfying about them. That and break action shotguns. I wish the firing range allowed reloading, i get it's unlimited ammo but practicing the followups would be nice.
Ignore: algorithm. I lost my first diamond moose because of the GO update, and now that they don't faceplant with a good hit it's just not the same. I can see running a little with the .308, but shrugging off a .338 at the same angle and running just as far... It's just not as fun or satisfying as it used to be.

I really wish the devs understood terminal ballistics. I love the game, but I do see some room for improvement. Here is why. If we assume the same bullet fired from the same gun, the bullet will penetrate further at 100 yards than at 50 yards. This is due to the loss of speed, which reduces the energy. The loss of energy slows down how fast the bullet will expand, leading to deeper penetration. I also wish the calibers were a little bit more realistic. Yeah, it's a game and research is hard work. But, it's fairly simple to dig up caliber profiles and their respective power and uses.
Both of these cartridges are amazing, but I am pretty frustrated to see that the .300 Magnum actually has INFERIOR penetration compared to even the .308 and the .338 has the exact same penetration as the .30-06
I mean that’s an option if you can be consistent with it! For my purposes, making content, I don’t think people would like how little zoom there is to see what I’m shooting at 🤓

@@Juliankb39 probably an effort to balance reduced range gone wrong. If they nerf it the game will be a lot less enjoyable because then all options are mediocre.
Also, the .338 weighs more and the ammo is more expensive. They really should give it more oomph to really make up for that. If animals drop faster, less tracking, I could see a point in using the .338
The 338 should be seriously more powerful than a 300. Let's face it, a 300 is shooting the same bullets as a 30-06 at a faster speed. A 338 launches a much heavier projectile.
I would love to own a gun chambered in .338 lapua in real life. Its such a wicked round. I am here in Illinois so we have only been able to use slug guns my entire life in firearm season. Well we can use big revolvers too like 44mag but thats besides the point. Anyway I had been using my remington 870 with a scope and rifled slug barrel my whole life. That gun loves the hornady SST’s. Then sometime last year they finally gave us the ability to use rifles on deer in some capacity. They aren’t letting us use things like 30-06 or 6.5creedmore but they are letting us use straightwalls like 350 legend, 450 bushmaster, remingtons new 360 buckhammer, etc. anyway we got a late season in January where we could finally legally test them out. My step dad bought a 27inch custom made 444 marlin barrel for his Thompson center fire muzzle loader lower. Got to test it out myself after he filled his final tags and I can say that it is a hell of an upgrade. You can actually push shots out a good ways without worrying about wounding an animal. I wouldn’t shoot past 150-160 yards with my slug gun but this thing has more velocity at 150 yards than a 44 magnum has at the muzzle. Sorry for the rant, I am just ready for deer season again already lol. I opted for 350 legend just because it was a more available and cheap round than a 444marlin would be
No doubt those will be the best grinding guns! I’m kind of moving away from grinding, so the new guns will be really fun for casual hunts, but from a grinding perspective, nothing changes 😕
That is a very good point. Grinding has kind of killed the game for me. I like the feeling of progressing, but I miss the old feeling of just going out and seeing what’s on my maps.
Does anyone know if the .45-70 has been nerfed recently? I took it out for a bit this morning and was having a lot more trouble getting into a lung on Cape Buffalo than I remember.

The main reason you should get the hp pack is cause of the 7mm 3 round, beast for hunting anything on or below 7, and can do semi well against 9 to 8. Very good weapon, i just see the 338 as a bonus
As far as real life is concerned.. 338 win mag kicks the pants off 300 win mag in terms of bullet energy. Velocities roughly the same. But the 338 is a bigger and heavier caliber. So it technically beats it. But the Winchester magnum isn’t even the best 338 cartridge. There’s definetly bigger ones like the 338 lapua and the 338-378 weatherby. Which I would love to see in a hunting game.
From what I could remember from your past comparison I thought the .300 and the single shot .338 performed almost the same. That's why I was confused when Jaxy was referring to the .338 as the most powerful gun in the game
The 338 SHOULD be the most powerful gun in the game behind the 470 nitro (I think its the 470 anyways). Anyways the 338 is definitely more power then a 300 win mag so the 300 being the same as the 338 in the game isn't realistic
It’s definitely relevant, but in grinding terms I’m not sure how much. To set up a proper grind, it takes hundreds of thousands in tents and tripods, I assume by then 75k for the .300 is doable too 🤓
It should be fixed for sure. The .338 Lapua Magnum is more powerful caliber in real life. This rifle is a legend, I can't wait to use it and the 7mm magnum too. The 7mm Rem Mag is the Meateater rifle 😆 the All Around.
In real life the .338 is better at shots under 200 meters. The .300 is better at longer range shots. It seems they have no way to implement this in game so they balanced it out. If anything needs work, it's the .308. That round is way too overpowered in the game. It is far weaker than any .30-06.
There's been talking about setting waypoints through scopes. Isn't that in yet in the beta? I hope they'll bring it to the public release. Was looking forward to it. 😉

I actually put up a video up of three test shots on huge animals and it went in the front of a bison and came out the rear, taking most every organ with it lol. I have a Legendary Cape Buffalo on my Africa map that I tried to get last night but they never came back to that need area. I'm hoping to nap him after the update Tuesday. They never came back to any of their need areas last night and it's super annoying. I couldn't shoot him initially because he was behind a tree and I was across the lake and the wind gave me away. I tried tracking him but his tracks vanished and there was a lot of criss-crossing..
Thé fact that we have to split hairs son the difference between the 300 and the new 338 is disappointing. Feels more like a novelty thing than a "game changing" weapon pack. Which is disappointing given what the community was asking for in regards no a verity in bigger caliber weapons. This update becomes more and more underwhelming the closer it gets…
I hate that ew makes choices based on selling dlcs instead of realism or game play. In no way should a 338 lapua perform basically equal to 300 win mag.......
The devs are always concerned about making the game too easy. It’s why they have such strict classes for what calibers are ethical for which species. If they were to go for as much realism as they could in that aspect, the 300 and 338 would be class 4-9 guns. The problem with that is everyone would simply do that. They’d have zero actual reason to carry any guns other than a 300 or 338 and then one other for really small game.

I've seen 30-06 punch through both lungs of a moose at 200 yards. They are right about how tough moose are, even with huge calibers they will walk and trot a little bit. How long have you been playing?

I think it’s a touch more accurate but overall the .338 is just fine accuracy wise. I do feel a bit more inconsistency at the range with it for sure

Those are only if you have a certain perk unlocked and it’s a pretty bad perk regardless. Just don’t get it and you’ll have totally normal reloads.
