i don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet, but the whole "hearing blocks breaking" thing is a bug in beta servers that makes mob footsteps the same sound as a block breaking
That’s actually would be a great feature, like imagine some mobs like the creepers, instead of having normal footsteps sounds, they sound like blocks are breaking wherever they step. It would definitely give you a bit of a fear factor whenever you hear that sound, but since creepers are to be feared, it’s completely worth it.

I say that as THE stubborn individual on this planet who won't even play Minecraft singleplayer without the Aether mod because I've used it as long as I've played the game. I know Aether content as well as I know vanilla content and I know tips and tricks that I've figured out for it just like everyone does for vanilla. I weave it into my singleplayer experience seamlessly, going there for the various resources it provides, like the bouncy clouds, the special ores (which I use to make MOST of my tools due to their special properties), the mounts, and of course, that precious dungeon loot. I have absolutely every reason to have a bias towards this mod and agree with you, and I'm telling you that you're wrong. Frankly, the Aether is kind of LACKING in content and I don't even like the RPG content that's present because I don't view Minecraft as an open world RPG, I view it more like a farming and architect simulator. BTW I realize how this mod doesn't fit with the basegame. It used to fit with it much better, back in this version of Minecraft, before Minecraft's identity was entirely clear. But I've just used the mod for so long at this point that it'd be depressing to start a playthrough one time and go "this'll be the first one without".
