  • Standard Industries co-CEO David Millstone sat down with theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli-known for his work on loop quantum gravity, the nature of space and time, and the relational interpretation of quantum theory-for a wide-ranging discussion on how we perceive time, how humanity builds knowledge across disciplines, and how doubt and a willingness to challenge our ideas lead to better outcomes.
This conversation was presented as part of the Standard Speaker Series, which features innovators and thought leaders in business, technology, science, and culture in conversation with Standard Industries co-CEOs David Millstone and David Winter.

I tried to get rid of the time dimension but einsteins (and with that newtonian) time seems to be here to stay. Thermal time is not an alternative, because if it is it could be conserved to a local system, while gravity (which is related to time due to time dilation) cannot be shielded. So the time dimension of gravity cannot be the thermal time, unless we can relegate its task to space curvature somehow

A renisance of a private scientist is a great paradigm I'm jealous i couldn't grow up with a tool bar of mathematicians & models to put scientific boxes around systems and simulate whatever free from grand theory of everything .
I wished the chaldean mind map we have done in 1900s wouldve been realized sooner and i could've dodged a very hostile combative abstract 80s school reform lol
Its no surprise to me the most ancient simple minded map was tried first. Babylonian primordial soup with environment is God and math / time is his fingertips written magically woven into fabric always stood out as mystical none sense to me.
Clearly out brains dashboard plays a huge role not only interpretations of models but in prescriptions of them. Our relationship with these models became way to extreme in my youth.
Newton knew his tools of approximation used on this paradoxical reality had the statical probability that had to be written off but i still dont understand why everyone ignored it and tried to ignore it as if wasn't there. As if it wasnt telling you a hint about non locality

Many things have, are, will, and will have happend: not necessarily in that order.

Love Albert Einstein brcause he shows universe though true phich experiences proceendings. And proof his universe though varieties experiences. Keep out Carlo his universe are lack experiences phich proceendings. He is seller book phich without true experiences in phich evidence.

Rovelli seems to be saying that the 'final unified theory of everything', is that there IS 'no final theory of everything' and that's fine. Physics and the real world is richer in content and scope than some final reductionist theory.

It's a bit of a guess to even imagine the universe is reducible to a simple set of laws. We're lucky it's as reducible as it is, that the laws of physics don't seem to differ between galaxies as far as we know, so that we can use what we learn on earth to talk about what happens millions of light years away and even inside of stars. But there's no guarantee that luck goes on forever, something like dark matter for example maybe just isn't reducible to our Standard Model.
