Dad was a psychiatrist. We lived at Ravenscraig for about 4 years to about 1961 I think. It was an asylum in the truest sense where fragile folks could be safe, have a roof and food. Very many indelible memories - I could write a book. Patients sports day, trips to Seamill, sitting at the warm boiler room with the men. Mr Robertson who ran the farm till he died. The chuff chuff train going under the bridge at the gate. The Neil Street bus to the Lady Alice school. Yes - a book indeed. Bill Boyd Mackay, Queensland
WOW! That was very thought provoking and made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.... Loved every second of that and the music ~ perfect! and what a 'fluke' at the end with the bird. Thank you xxx
Thank you for photographing and posting this wonderful piece. You get all teary eyed thinking of how magnificent it looks and how sad it is to see the decay. I worked here as a studunt nurse on the psychiatric placement section of training. I have many great memories of staff and patients there. The accompanying music was perfectly chosen.
Great video of a sad and forgotten time. Thank you for all the information provided, i do hope someone or maybe the whole town can pitch in and save this historical set of buildings. 👍
my aunty did her training there as a nurse in the 60,s,she said it always gave her the creeps, especially during a night shift,it Is a very grim forboding building,as many of these places where, built in the fashion of,"I wouldn't like to end up in here ""the type of place u put your head down and scurried past as fast as you could, they should turn it in to a museum, not many of these buildings left, givien the current economic climate, wont be long before their used again.
Thanks for watching and enjoying. I have to say I've never heard it referred to as this but as a matter of interest will try and find out if it is indeed this place.
Another great video Jim. I wonder what will become of this building. Looks as though they arent doing any repairs maybe hoping it will fall down. I was there a few weeks ago taking photos and spoke to one of the security staff and he was telling me about a ghostly lady figure who stalks the wards at night! Must be scary when its dark. Nice to see you are back out there making movies.
i often used to hear the older folk refering to a place called "the grubber" i wonder if this was it,any info would be most appreciated, once again thanks for posting.
0:34 the trailer wasnt always to one side like that me and my friends went in that trailer and the ground fell apart beneath us and it tipped over a bit
It is as you say very foreboding..I have another visit planned as sadly I lost all my footage used for editing when my 1tb storage died on me, perhaps something spooky in that too. Thank you so much for watching and please feel free if you enjoyed it to subscribe to my channel,
Thanks for watching my video, It is a very solemn place and yes I have heard of this ghostly woman....I hope tou got your tree house built, but you'd be brave to spend the night in it. Mind you you've given me a thought perhaps I should return in the dark and use the camera no niight setting, perhaps I would capture her then.....
Me and my friends were building a tree house and when we were putting steps on the tree we couldnt hit the nails properly and a security guard helped us and told us to be carefull because we might see a strange ghost like woman.
Very sad mate, my Grandfather did not deserve to die there. If we were in todays world he would have lived for many more years. I suppose the NHS had no clue then as to stroke victims, and just left them to die.

Thanks Rod, I'm glad you cottoned onto it....also the bird flying past at the end was a really creepy fluke.

Did NHS stop using this building after the construction of Ravenscraig?
