There were originally going to be 4 bourdon bells here called Great George, Great Paul, Great John and Great Ringo, but concerns were raised about the cost, not only for the bells but also for their maintenance, and also about whether the tower would be able to support these massive bells, so in the end only Great George and the larger Great Paul were cast, but there was no room for Great Paul so that bell was moved to London where it now hangs in St Paul's Cathedral.
i got the common thread btw the 4 bourdons: Paul McCartney (Great Paul), George Harrison (Great George), John Lennon (Great John), and Ringo Starr (Great Ringo)!
me too you were under the slider of one of the bells thats up extremly close very dangerous thing to do. do you know that a slight knock on that slider or had you of touched it the bell would of come off the balance swung round and killed you outright by the force of it . Had the bells been down youd be safe. I know this cause iam a bellringer myself and ive been ringing tower bells for 27 years so i have years of experience.

When I went up the tower of Durham Cathedral there was a warning notice on the belfry door; "Danger, Bells Up." People, but particularly those who don't know about bells, should be warned of the danger and told to keep well clear.
next time if people choose to see this great bell for safetys sake ask the ringers to ring the bells down 1st dont go near bells that are up that could of been fateful if you knocked the slider that bell above you could have swung right at you and killed you

I came to the comments to post the same thing. Very silly to go under the bell like that and has nothing to do with headphones. One knock of that slider and the bell would’ve taken their head clean off. It’s happened.
