FNA! I second this. As someone who just found Cal's music about a year ago, I just thought he was an excellent lyricist with a phenomenal group of producers, but after voraciously consuming every bit of content he produces, and hearing a LOT of the same shit I struggle(d) with in his lyrics, I was like, "PLEASE let this dude be a real one. Not someone who studied the algorithm to find that songs that touch on addiction and mental health issues and insecurities happen to be doing well right now, and therefore used that leverage to get some hits out the door." Then I learned more about his past in the industry, and the way he articulates particular struggles... yeah, no way he hasn't personally experienced it all. Then he goes and tells stories, passes on lessons he's learned, saying something (as opposed to just rhyming punny lines in a pleasant poetic meter) meaningful, all in one of the best flows out and on top of some of the best backing tracks I've ever heard. Cal Scruby Radio STAYS on my Spotify 24/6. (I save one day for my girl, Lex Bratcher.)

I'm a disabled vet, I deal with so much mental stuff. I really love Cal and his authenticity. I really like him and a couple other rappers who talk about the real shit that so many deal with privately. It's so easy to feel alone in a room full of people dealing with my head shit. To know that I'm not alone. He does far more good for people than he knows. His music has saved me. Thank you.

So deep the truth is always noticed when you explain it from the heart..
I've been hesitant to catch an interview with Cal because, as the old adage goes: "Never meet your heroes.". Heroes would be a bit strong, but as I'm sure many others can attest, his music has been an anchor during many a riptide, to turn a phrase. During the hard days, I can find fraternity in "My Anxiety". During the easier, goofy days, I'll blare "French Tips" or "My Phone Died" down the highway. He has created a huddle for those of us who hear echoes of our past in his lyrics. Maybe I'm just getting too introspective and vulnerable for a YT comment section, but if Cal can come out baring teeth and heart in equal measure, it gives the rest of us a place to feel like shit, at least, and a place to lift ourselves up and use the negativity to fuel progress at best. Remember this phrase to temper hype and shine a light during dark times: "This too, shall pass." Sorry to harsh the buzz, y'all.

Just recently discovered this guys music a few weeks ago on TH-cam randomly and has been pretty much all I’ve been listening to since, googled him today to find out a bit more about him, and found out he just did a show in my hometown a few weeks ago. I listen to a lot of underground independent music especially hip hop and have no idea how he has been slept on this long. That casino album is straight fire.

Cal thinking he lost it is hilarious because any of his true fans know his best music is yet to come. Cal makes music that certain people like myself really connect with.
