    Thank you for sharing these videos have helped us so much. My husband and I have found them very helpful. He is on week 3 of having the cross linking procedure. He has Kerecatonus in both eyes. His left eye is severe and needs a cornea transplant. The Dr did cross linking in his right eye to save his vision and freeze it so it does not continue to get worse. His recovery has been a bit harder due to having the cross linking on his good eye. He only has his bad eye to rely on. He is meat cutter and we dont know when his vision will come back for him to return to work. He has the scleral lenses for both eyes which he was fitted with about a year before surgery. They have been a miracle for him with gaining his sight back. We are currently just taking things day by day as recovers from the cross linking his vision is very limited due to only being able to see out of his severe eye.

    I'm in a similar situation. I got diagnosed with Keratoconus a few weeks ago, I'm 21 years old, but I've had it since I was 18, my right eye was a little bit blurry but it wasnt that bad. Right now I have 20/20 in my left eye and 20/25 in my right eye, "but it's a really crappy 20/25" according to the eye doctor. He was a really cool guy, one of the top eye doctors in the state of Connecticut (where I live). He told me "If you were my son, I would tell you to get CXL in your right eye as soon as possible." He also told me that chances are that I might only need a hard contact lens for my right eye post-OP, but if all I end up needing is glasses then I will go with those. I'm glad that I probably wont need a $2000 scleral lens for my eye. He even told me that if my eye sight stays where it is now, then I technically wont even have to go in to correct my vision, as I can still drive and read fine with both eyes. I will go in for an eye examination every year for the rest of my life to track the progress of my eyes. Also, thank you for the videos.

    I just got epi off in both eyes, it made vision worse and a month later I still can't even see something as simple as the computer screen at work without leaning extremely close. Of course my insurance doesn't cover the special lens and 1/3 of the cost of the surgery itself. Good to hear the lens gets rid of those halos and double vision, its especially bad for me with lights. My vision hasn't changed at all since the procedure as they said it would, it's just been horribly blurry since day one after and my old glasses do nothing. According to them, everything looks fine.

    • @bionic_band_director
      @bionic_band_director  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me, it took about three months for my eyes to settle in. I remember the first three months were pretty rough with some days being more blurry than others. I was told that is the normal process of the cornea healing.
      At first I was told that my insurance wouldn’t cover the scleral lens as well. However, it is now considered “medically necessary” as no other form of glasses or simple contact lenses can correct the issues I have in the eye. It might be worth seeing if your doctor is willing to communicate with your insurance company so they know it’s not an optional, but a requirement.
      I’ve also heard of people having laser corrective surgery several months after and are able to fully regain clarity. Best to talk to your doctor about your particular situation.
      Good luck to you!

      @@terencendhlovu5632 Literally almost the same, this ruined my life and sent me into depression for a while. after going to different doctors and paying for multiple sets of lenses thousands of dollars gone, I finally got a pair with the HOA add on and now I can see about 20/30 in both eyes with very minimal artifacts (there are still some here and there mostly slight ghosting) but I can drive and see a computer screen as normal now. But I am hopeless without them, can't see a damn thing when I take them off. I kind of wish I would have just taken the risk and just got fitted for lens without the surgery. They say it stops advancing in your late 20s and I was 30 at the time. If not for the HOA lens, I would be screwed right now because regular scrals would get me roughly 20/40, but so many artifacts still.

But the vision is still a bit blurry, so is it normal? My power of the left eye has changed and reduced but it’s taking time to settle completely. • @remdot
      @remdot 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      for myself I don't wear glasses and have always had very clear focused vision, but my KC slowly pushed my vision in my right eye to where if I'm tired or laying down then I get pretty wonky double vision, and if I'm just normal it's very slight double vision.
      i didn't find out until I got diagnosed recently that this thing I had where bright things looked somewhat streakier especially when contrasted by dark rooms, was actually an early sign of keratoconus, and I was only able to tell in dark rooms because my pupil expanded.
      But for me, I was essentially stable until I turned 23, and then it started getting worse quickly, and that's why I'm getting the procedure done now. your son might be in the same category where there's abnormal stuff in his vision that has always been there and he thinks its normal, and he might be totally stable forever and just have slightly bulbous corneas.
      the normal thing with this condition though, is to monitor progression for at least 6 months, so if they just saw ONE test and went "hmm yep he need surgery" then either your son has REALLY bad KC or they're a pretty bad opthalmologist

I was just looking for an outsiders perspective. It's just a lot to digest for me personally. That's a darn good question. I did a quick search and found an article: www.ophthalmologytimes.com/view/corneal-ectasia-effects-epi-and-epi-cxl
      "Epi-on, epi-off
      The goal in keratoconus is treatment with crosslinking (CXL) as early as possible when progression becomes evident. The epi-off procedure is the current gold standard treatment with proven efficacy and more than 10 years of follow-up."
      Now, this coming from my untrained mind, I don't know your current history, and what condition your eyes are in given the disease. Your doctor may want to do an epi-on, or epi-off. Ultimately, it would be up to your doctor to know what is best for your eye. I do think it would be wise to have a conversation with him/her and ask why they feel you need either the epi-on or epi-off. Shikha Bhalla Before my cross-linking I saw halos, triple vision and blurry. After, it was still messed up vision, but the Scleral contact lens corrected all of that so that I see 20/20 now with no halos or triple vision.

      Shikha Bhalla It was about three months before my vision stabilized from being so blurry. Once my eye healed, I still needed the scleral contact lens to fully correct my vision.

      That’s a good question, it would depend on what condition your eye is in, I believe. I did have a lasik procedure years ago, but I was able to get it done
