GR® de Pays tour du Biros: 4 days of trek in Ariège, from the Araing pond to the Bentaillou mines

- The GR® de Pays tour du Biros is a marked trek route to discover in the wild mountains of Couserans, in the southwest of Ariège.
This 4-day hiking loop is generally accessible on foot from late spring to fall depending on weather conditions at altitude. It takes us on an adventure into the secret and preserved mountains of Biros, a valley with a rich pastoral and mining history, at the foot of the highest peak of Couserans: the peak of Maubermé (2880 m).
Departing from Sentein, the first stage is a long climb towards the Araing pond. An easy detour allows you to reach the Notre Dame des Neiges chapel (or Isard chapel) to get out of the thick forest and enjoy a splendid view of the valley. After the pond, head for the Serre d'Araing pass, the Har peak and the famous Bentaillou mines, which brought wealth to the valley at the beginning of the 20th century. Finally, the last two stages take us in turn to the villages of Biros (Bonac, Balacet) and to the heights, from pass to pass, on very wild panoramic paths through the summer pastures, or under a thick (and magnificent) forest cover, typical of Couserans.

Voilà une boucle magnifique, plein de belvédères, de cols, de paysages magnifiques et d'histoires ! J'affectionne particulièrement le Biros pour ça. Et aussi pour son côté un peu sauvage. Je ne me lasse jamais d'y aller. Bravo à vous pour ce superbe trek de 4 jours. 👍😉
