my thinking is the highlights you were trying to add were not going to stand out cause they were all warm colors, looked like a warm yelllow and a cadmium red? to make a cool orange youd need like a lemon yellow mixed with a cool red like quinacranom magenta, magenta, alizarin can do it but the others will give the punch you are looking for in a highlight and especially on top of warmer colors like you have.
That looks like a one-inch brush. A good challenge for such a tiny canvas. I've always found it difficult to get a good orange color when using an opaque red and an opaque yellow. For some reason, two opaques - especially cadmium colors - can get a bit dull. Try an opaque yellow mixed with a transparent Alizarin Crimson or something similar. Should give you a great color for those particular flowers. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Its really disheartening whenever I can't get in the zone, i really hate disappointing myself. Good luck to us all on our art journey. This was a nice video and an even better painting. Good job 👍
Hey 👋 Christina! It works. Love the big brush marks and pallet knife quality. Great edges. Very nice!! It looks great. Saturated flowers are super. Keep them bright! Add the accents and highlights. Clean color. You got it!! ❤🎨
When you came to your painting, after leaving it for a bit did you like it a little better than when you were painting it? I understand having expectations of the work we do but I think you did a great job with the flowers and leaves. I don’t see a flat painting at all. Thank you for sharing your process. M
It’s definitely better to create a painting that you’re dissatisfied with than no painting at all. Dissatisfaction is what creativity is built on.
So true!
I learn so much from my failed pieces - each is another problem revealed and brought to light. I keep them around as lessons.
So true!

Oh I like that suggestion, thanks! I'll have to give it a try in the future.

I like the painting too. Of course, I did not have the same expectations as you did. Setting limitations are good, usually. All the best.
Thank you :)
Your "failure" is still a beautiful painting!
Thank you!
I like it too! A great exercise, either way 😊
Thank you!
Great mindset! thank you for sharing. Really helpful to remember
Glad you found it helpful! :)

Beautiful painting, as always, and great insight.
Thanks Maura!
I like it, actually.
Thank you!
Would it help to have an umbrella over your painting to block out the glare to your eyes? That was some pretty intense sunlight!
Yes, that’s a great idea! The sun was so intense 😰
Brush surely more than half an inch in width C'; your thumb's about half an inch wide so that makes it more like an inch & a quarter, no?
Yes I think you're right!
