A forgotten symbol of the 70s, or how not to buy bags in supermarkets

Just recently we encountered a problem when going to the store. Everyone has heard the slogan “Pyaterochka to the rescue!” Well, her packages don't always do this. A full bag of groceries tore at the most inopportune moment on the way home, and, as luck would have it, the granddaughter became capricious, and I had to hastily throw the surviving groceries into the lower compartment of the stroller, put something in the stroller itself, and carry the granddaughter in my arms.
When I came home, I remembered how our grandmothers went grocery shopping. They didn’t have bags, they made their own bags, we also called them “string bags”. That same evening I began to embody the idea of ​​a modern string bag.
For my bag I chose calico in two colors.
1. I cut out 2 pieces 45x45 cm, this is the bag itself, 2 pieces 10x36 for the handles, 2 pieces 14x30 for the pocket.
2. Fold the 45x45 pieces right sides out and stitch on 3 sides.
3. Turned the bag inside out and sewed two side seams, leaving 0.7 cm from the edge.
4. I found the middle of the bottom and put 16 cm from it in both directions.
I folded the sides towards the center at these points.
5. I stitched the bottom, retreating 0.7 cm from the edge.
6. I turned the top of the bag 2 cm, but did not stitch it.
7. Having straightened the product along the side seams, we find the middle at the top of the bag, set aside 16 cm from the middle and make marks. They just turned out on the fold lines.
8. I attached 2 fold handles to one side of the bag.
9. Rolled them to the other side. Now I stitched the top of the bag, where I made a 2 cm fold, sewing on the handles.
10. Turned the bag right side out.
11. Parts 14x30 cm for pockets, on one side, rounded. I folded them right sides inward and stitched them, leaving room for turning them inside out.
12. On the side with right angles I attached a button, moving 4 cm from the edge.
13. I attached the pocket to the bag, the rounded part protrudes 9 cm.
14. I folded the bag along the width of the pocket and marked where to make the second part of the button.
Ready.
In my opinion, this is an excellent “to-go” option; when folded, it fits perfectly into a bag and will help out at any time.
