Royal Tournament 1990. I was a POWren in the WRNS doing security in the gods when I met my future husband who was a trumpet player in that USMC Band from Camp Lejeune North Carolina. July 14, 1990. The following year July 14, 1991 we got married. After 28 years living in the US (near Camp Lejeune) we are still together in my home town. And they said it would never last!
I have watched this video dozens of times. I come back to it a few times a year and the last bit always cheers me up. With H.M. Jollies, The evening Hymn, Sunset (Retreat), Rule Britannia with the gun salute and Land of Hope and Glory. I am interested in the late history of Empire and so this is sort of nostalgic for me, although i do not like the effects of Colonialism.
Kaj, Kalle, Arnljot Haarberg I’ve been watching this since I saw it on tv when it was first shown the bit where you see the cockleshell hero’s. At the end is my favourite bit
I was in the Royal Marines Band on this performance on cornet. I was dared to press the smoke machine button before we marched on. We're talking a smoke machine on an industrial scale! Being young and stupid, I did and it didn't stop pumping out smoke! Hence the mass of smoke at the beginning of the clip. Some musicians were still struggling to find their positions when the band stepped off, only filling the gaps just before the arena boundary. Needless to say, I was in big trouble.
All the people I went to the 1990 Royal tournament are dead...different times military bases across Europe and the world proper navy...IRA attacked us and we all carried on....different times my friend different times...Mrs Thatcher would have booted boris into touch.

I was there great times ..hardly any military left due to cuts..always cheers me up this stuff Royal Tournament was the best

Just passed out as a RM bugler, I was the youngest on the RM Massed Bands at 17, a trained rank as I joined just pasted 16.
