“Lifetime fluid” is very expensive in the long run. I’ve always done my DSG changes strictly on 40k intervals. Even though the fluid looks fine I still change it on time and have never had a problem with any of them.
depending on the dsg there is a service interval. the dry cluch dsg boxes dont need to be serviced because of the mech unit being seperate from the gearbox side
Changing the DSG fluid and filter is good, but there are shops which do DSG flushes. I have seen plenty DSGs that shifted worse after the flush. According to Scotty Kilmer, the flushing machines blow contaminated fluid through the solenoids where the particles may stick in the solenoids. Causing them to work improperly. Just change the oil regularly.
I've never owned a Nissan, but supposedly a lot of the reason CVTs today still get a bad rap is because Nissan slapped "lifetime fluid" on all of the models in their first few years and then it completely backfired on them when people realized CVTs hate old fluid.

I mean, economically... it's easier and cheaper to replace a transmission in a lot of cases than it is to tear one apart, diagnose the problem, get the parts, replace them, put it back together, throw it in, and pray it works. Pop the old one out, pop a new one in, DONE.
@@scott8919 yeah, if the problem is not properly fixed it's another 3 grands in labour later, I'd rather have it replaced with a new or at least known good 2nd hand rather than trying to fix this one. Awesome video. Thanks so much! You kept saying thank God it’s not going back together. Why exactly? Was this transmission Not a good candidate for a rebuild? And how come rebuilds never last as long as the original factory ones? Even if the car financially isn’t worth it, I’ve had cars that it’s worth it to me to pay $3000 to fix the transmission if I really like the car but it’s not worth it if I pay $3000 and the transmission goes bad in two years so I transmission rebuilt in the shop inferior to brand new ones? Because the shops always try to say they’re superior but that’s not been my experience.
When I was a dealer tech 1990 we would get a transmission in a big plastic box all tested and rebuilt. We just installed them and put the core back in the box for return. In2010 I had a Jetta just out of warranty and the dealer quoted me 5600.00 for a rebuild unit No torq converter.

Have you ever taken apart a jetta hybrid transmission? They had a recall on it from hairline cracks in dsg 7 speed transmission. My hybrid jetta had 62,000 miles and I was told it needed a new transmission which VWsaid they aren’t responsible for, even though my car had same symptoms as recall jettas. But my car, along with so many others, is not on the recall. VW doesn’t even take transmissions apart.

@@HumbleMechanic wow i would happily watch it 😄 your videos are very educational and entertaining to watch I’m sure if you posted the video it would get viewers interested,I imagine editing video’s that long take a lot of time to edit but still a great video to watch
2002 f 250 4x4 transmission and how many miles do they usually last?powered by v10.
Cpnb tdi with the zf trans would be sweet to see a teardown in
I think we stuff like that worth taking it part just learn how it works. It doesn't matter if you brake something
Sorry to hear your shoe for juiced. Things will get better.
Since the first video you have posted I have been hunting for a Touareg Gen 1. Did this SUV have hitch on the back? I cant recall. Do you happen to have a list of items to watch out for when buying a VR6 version? Where would you go for trans parts for DIYer?
Does the 8p a3 2.0t from 2008 drive like a mk5 gti
Could you please do a teardown of a knackered differential on a 3.2 VR6, both front & rear? These are a VAG non-serviceable item but my 19 year old cherished A3 3.2 quattro came a complete cropper due to the fluid overheating after a high speed drive. Greetings from the UK!
If I can find one. You bet!!!
Could you do a Pumpe Duse engine tear down?
Oh that’s a good one I should find one
I would personally be interested to see a teardown of the 3.0 TDI v6 or even a v10 if you could get your hands on one
I would be curious as to what the common failure points are for them
Figuring out why EA111 engines fail their head gaskets near the alternator and crunchy gears in 084/085 (5th gear oil starvation) transmissions...
Funny, our Touareg had trans problems early on (mostly software defects)... The trans? Aisin which is Toyota. How did VW manage to make an Toyota trans suck? lol.. Worse, I work for Toyota lol. All that said, when I changed the trans fluid at 240k miles, it still looked brand new!
I would like to see what causes it to fail. I'm we found the gun, but how pulled the trigger?
He done toldja. It was fluid starvation.
@@laalaa99stl yes what causes it
Thankyou for this video I have this job to do as well
Scotty Kilmer says - the problem here is called "Aisin"
@HumbleMechanic have you done a teardown or fix video of the 7spd DSG from a Golf R yet?
Also how reliable are the DSG gearboxes in those? I am in Australia and we only get the Golf R's in DSG form.
Those are pretty solid. The later 6sp were great too. the early 6sp, not so much
Thanks for the reply, I love your work even though I haven't got a Golf R yet!@@HumbleMechanic
W12 engine from a VW Phaeton! I wanna see a teardown of that sucker!
Im always on the hunt for that one.
Lifetime fluid, just like 20k mile oil changes on synthetic oil is a load of crap. My idea of a lifetime for a car is 20 years+ not the 6 to 8 then bin it the companies plan for now.
Ah , Touareg . Unless it's a TDI they are in my opinion donor cars . My 2nd Smyth Ute ran an R32 clone engine built up around a Touareg 3.2 VR6.
If the transmission contains a bunch of clutch baskets... i guess that makes the transmission case the "basket case" 🤔
Exactly 🤣
No wonder the guy who invented planetary gears etc went insane....
Hmm how about an Audi EA839 2.9/30 that would be interesting to see a tare dow.
oh, thanks to remind me how i hate automatic transmitions :D
Hi @humblemechanic, I have a golf mk4 1.6sr with an automatic transmission and for some reason the car is stuck in one gear and goes forward even when in reverse or neutral. I have ran diagnostics and not seeing any fault codes from the TCM for the transmission and did fluid change and added a new filter kit as well, any idea what could be wrong?
Hey, sorry to disturb you. Watching you for years now.. i did learn a lot from you. But i have a weird problem going on.
Golf 7 mk7 gti performance stage 2 (315hp)
I get epc when full throttle (6500rpm shifting) when i restart the car its gone. Weird thing is if i shift before 6500k rpm there is no problem. What can it be?
I changed the bobine and coils to from a Audi RS which can handle up to 600hp..
Can you please help me out? What should i get checked out? Or what can i do? Car has 135k km. Should i check the throttle body? I got the gti bcuz of ur R videos. Felt in love and did many things to it you did 😁😁😁
