Total bollocks this video. I had a Grand Vitara 2400 petrol 5 doors for 5 years and 100000 km. Old men emu suspension, 1 inch higher and the this 4x4 went every where. So forget this video he does not know anything about these brilliant Japan build 4x4's.

This is a great car. I’ve had all the generations of the Vitara and the one in the video is my current car. Works perfectly for the 4x4 and also in the city.

I have a 2016 version of this SUV, 5 door full 4x4 and all that. Guess what, I drive a 2019 Isuzu d-max pickup at work too so when I got my vitara I decided I'd test both of them out by driving both into a very steep ditch in the exact area. Both vehicles had been put into 4L and put in 1st or low gear as needed and even with the much newer better ground clearance of the Isuzu d-max - my grand vitara went in and out of that ditch so easy that I was way more confident about the d-max. To my surprise the pickup truck actually struggled a bit to get out and that was a shocker. I'm not knocking the d-max, I love it and its a great vehicle. However the grand vitara is definitely underrated especially in this video. Its well built, reliable and very capable. I've taken it deep into the woods and never got stuck or even had a hiccup. Just drive with skill and understand that it's not a jeep wrangler or something crazy like that.

I dont doubt the 4x4 system, just the ground clearance and some angles. Love the Isuzu 👍🤩

Actually, the tyre choice on the Vitara didn't do it justice, and I've seen them do amazing things with the right tyres on.

Stock, like most 4x4 nowadays, are not 100%. A lift, bigger tyres and a snorkel and these become little monsters offroad.

I bought a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.7 rwd for $4,000 with 88k on the odometer so I jumped on it not knowing what I was getting into 🤠 difficult to get parts but one of the easiest cars to ever work on the 2.7 motor is really fast I took out the rear seats made it to haul stuff around. I have driven it in washes in Arizona and hit the dirt roads an it's not 4x4 but everything shakes I mean everything other than that it's a fun car good luck trying to sleep in it if you wanted to camp without a tent.... 🤠

With the HTM lift kit +5 or 6 it works perfectly for Overland.

Wow, didn't know you could loft it that much. Tnx for the info

Did you have to do any major modifications to the car after the lift?

U clearly have no idea mate, with a lift and some AT tyres it can go head to head with cars who cost 4 times as much

Couldn't agree more Nigel. I've got a grand vitara as well. Basically it come to what I could afford. It was a choice the grand vitara at 15k or something like wrangler or Ford ranger which where x5 the price. You just have to know the limits but they are way more capable then what people think. I've kept up with Jimnys and hiluxs. Often have gotten places the hiluxs Couldn't go because of their weight while the suzukis could just bounce over everything

Note the Grand Vitara does not come with proper 4x4 recovery points (like most SUV). What many think are recovery points on cars at the front and rear is usually for lashing when shipping the car and not made to handle the pressure of a recovery operation off-road.
The GV does well with a simple lift kit and a slightly larger tyre (though there is limited room for this in the wheel arches but a 2-3% increase is possible and makes a big difference). The traction control with the 4L locked centre diff makes for a good car if you know how to drive it and place your tires for the indepedent suspection.
It is not a Jimny sure, but compared to competitors like a Rav4, the GV is very capable off road. Good to know the limitations of a car though before you buy.

Yes it does actually. The front has 2 loops, one is light duty for a vehicle tie down for shipping while the other is beefier and intended for recovery. The exposed rear one is for recovery too. Is it super heavy duty no, but it's not a heavy vehicle either so you don't need a 30,000lb pull to get it unstuck and if you do you have bigger problems. It's a shame they didn't make both front loops as recovery points for the extra $1.50 it would have cost.

awesome, i was comparing this to a rav4, i think it seems to strike a good balance between someone that wants a good daily that can still be taken out to some forest roads and gravel

you better not eat that plant! this is an oleander (baladre in catalan) and is really toxic! hope you're ok! About the Grand Vitara, I've owning a 3door since 2008 and you're right; the worst thing about it is its ground clearence... but nowadays is getting hard to find a replacement

  • @markbro4427

I'll give you the ground clearance but there's no equivalent (Rav4/CRV) standard road suv much better. What you missed is they are mechanically very reliable and most things could be fixed at the side of the road with a socket set, that model is that last of the old school suv's you don't need to take to the main dealer if you need work done as they are very basic and don't have much modern electronic rubbish on them. Great value as well, I paid £6800 for a 2014 2.4 petrol 5 door 4 years ago, a Rav4 was almost twice the price and it's not twice the car because I have both😁

You're right!! I didn't do the car justice in this video as my mate only gave it to me for 10 minutes. I got it again and did a much better video in Spanish with full English subtitles which you can find on the channel. Hope you like that one better 😁

These cars have their limitations, no doubt; however this video gives you an idea of what they can do off-road: th-cam.com/video/Ybkl3X2OjQg/w-d-xo.html
