Great video, brings back memories, my dad was a signalman there in the south cabin, we had great times living in the junction.

Up Tralee to Heuston passenger passing Rosslare loco which is attaching a van to the up Cork to Heuston day Mail at platform 3. The Tralee passenger used to overtake the day mail at Limerick Jctn. The Waterford bay no 4 platform is now a car park and the back road and the old platform 3 are no more. Great Video.

@@nicktuk159 I regularly travelled from Limerick to waterford during the late 70s and early 80s, never once saw that move where the rosslare train backed a van onto the cork train . Most times the contents of teh van were moved by hand across teh platform to the dublin bound train . Very interesting , There cant have been any passengers on the train for that move to have occurred in that way as that siding was not signalled for passenger moves

it looks like the whole rosslare train was shunted which suggest the van was on the wrong end as I remember it was always near the engine normally on the rosslare train ( so it could be detached )

@@davemccabe992 The Rosslare is in no 4 bay , the loco is attaching a van to the rear of the mail where the Gen Van and TPO are at the rear , the coaches are in front which is unusual as the TPO and gen van are usually at the front . The loco is a 141 on the mail instead of the usual single 121.

@@nicktuk159 Correct there , the van for the mail would have to be next to the loco out of Limerick , I worked the Day Mail on a few occasions then and it was the usual move there. You could have empty coaches attached too.
