  • The name Hallstatt is made up by two ancient Germanic words. Hal means salt and Statt means settlement. The first known salt mine is dated back in the 12:th century before common era. The existence of this town came to our awareness around ten years ago via a BBC news headline. In one of the communist China's piracy movement/housing development, they decided to use this mountain village as their blue print when constructing a new affluent living district.
The uniqueness of Hallstatt is not by any means the Baroque appearance, rather an incentive to ask oneself why it is important to critically scrutinising every trend self-reliantly. Through the reformation movement, inhabitants in Hallstatt fought audaciously against the Protestant power. By burning all bridges which linked this town with the outside world, they could continue to worship whatever religion they esteemed highly. By refusing to compromise their belief, they have also demonstrated their determination to follow their own paths. When examining their choice today. we could easily conclude that the income which has generated from tourism is far greater than other any other private industry.
