IMO they should have done some sort of a documentary sharing clips and untouched files of her stuff with interspersed commentary from people around her adding context... basically keep the stuff untouched and do something with more meaning and substance than thrown together edits of unfinished work.
I cant wait for the discourse around this album to end so badly. The fans have been absolutely feral, some of them voicing valid concerns but then there’s the other half that are so rude to anyone even remotely enjoying or defending this album (not saying you are btw I hope that came across.) Personally I enjoyed good amounts of the album; do I have gripes with some of the songs structures and mixing on some of the songs? Yes, but to me at least Sophie feels present everywhere. From her little metallic swooshes and bloops on do you wanna be alive and Berlin nightmare, to the raging bass on elegance, and the stuttering ending to love me off earth. I think the only reason I feel comfortable saying this is where Sophie was heading is because of just how much her family and close collaborators all advocated for this to come out and that it is in fact what she wanted. Again people are allowed to like or dislike this album and are entitled to their feelings but some of the fans truly have ruined this release with their attitudes. Thank you for sharing your thoughts 🫶🖤
I’ve seen videos of performances that feature the songs that are on the album, and in some ways they aren’t much different. (Although I’ve never been to one of her shows so I wouldn’t know the intricacies that are only noticed in a live performance). But the fact that they were chosen to be performed at a show is enough of a reason for me to think that this album is good. Would she have performed these songs if they didn’t meet her standards? With the rumored hundreds of tracks that aren’t released, her choice to perform, and her brother’s choice to put them on the album doesn’t seem like a false-Sophie statement to me.
Even if it was nearly finished and has contributions from many of her industry freinds, this still feels like a compilation of b sides just to cash in for the hardcore fans
I enjoyed the album. I’m glad that it was released, SOPHIE was all about love and sharing and she never really minded leaks back in the day. I think she came from a similar background to many artists like myself where everything was underground, whispered, passed around on tapes etc. Her brother and long time sound engineer Benny Long said that the track list was finalised before death, though not mixed and mastered. I’ve listened to all of the leaked demos from this album, and it seemed Benny and her friends decided to simply master what she had completed, without trying to fill in the gaps. This wasn’t where SOPHIE was heading, it’s where she was at the time of her passing. Her music has always been divisive, and as a fan during her lifetime, she zigged when we expected her to zag. I appreciated your thought and opinions of course, it is a major grey area and not all music hits the same way for different people. Ultimately we’re all just trying to make sense of a bereft situation. SOPHIE FOREVER 🤍 I hope you’re having a good day :)

R.I.P. SOPHIE🥀
Aside from Miles Davis' Doo-Bop, 2Pac's Makaveli and Big L's The Big Picture... I never cared for posthumous albums💿
