    Fantastic vid.. appreciate the foot cam , the highlighted notation, clear concise wording, brief intro so one hears it in context etc. Even though the net is saturated with instructional videos yours are refreshingly helpful and original. Practice time is best spent on new material and your vids help me think outside my own box. Kudos and thank you.

    Cool lesson! It came together very quickly and easily. At first glance it looks extremely complex, but when you break it down into those three sections and put them together, it comes together very smoothly. It’s just gonna take some time to bring it up to speed. Thank you! Another one for my tool bag!

    I took this fill to drumclass at Metalfactory! (Only metal musician college education in the world in The Netherlands)
    It took a while but now all 5 drummers in my year can play this one and it’s become part of our first exam at 100bpm.
    We’ve incorporated double bass in there too to be able to play it at much higher bpm’s too!
    Thanks for this fill!

    It took me awhile to realize he was using the flick technique for the hi hat at 120 BPM. At faster speeds it's so fluid and almost becomes slight of hand. I've always brought the stick around but learning that should definitely improve speed

    What is the last hi-hat lick you do at 80bpm @10:40? Please link to another clip if easier.
    Love your work btw, you teach in a way that i learn best and you bring some soul to the otherwise robotic percussion in 99% of today's "music"

    • @Demonstormlord
      @Demonstormlord 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I realise it's been a year, and that I'm not OP, but I'm 99% sure it goes like this:
      1 on closed hat, open for "and" until downbeat of 2, which is only on the snare. The tricky part is here. There are 4 32nd notes, and I think they fall on the upbeat of 2, the downbeat of "2e", the upbeat of "2 and" and the downbeat of "2 and". Basically, instead of hitting 4 32nd notes on 2 and the "e" of 2, imagine you move them one 32nd note to the right. Then, the "a" of 2, the downbeat of 3, the "e" of 3 and the "and" of 3 are 16th notes, with the hat opening on the "and" of 3, and a kick drum eight note being played as well. On the downbeat of 4, it's a snare and a closed hat, and then a single eight note on the "and" of four. The sticking in the video seems to be L on the snare on 2, RR LL for the 32nds, and then RLRLR, with the last R falling on the "and" of 3.
      It's really tricky, but I think that's how it goes.

  • @adamblister7706
    @adamblister7706 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You're an awesome instructor. I have a question. I'm not good @ 32nd notes or 16th notes. What's a good place to start so that I even know if I'm playing the right thing or to differentiate between the two?!
