Another way to remove stem which is broken off flush with crown, without touching the crown, is to dissolve it using solution of water and alum (Aluminium Sulphate). This safely dissolves carbon steel but not stainless steel, brass or typical plating materials. I’ve also used this method to remove broken screw from movement main plate. You have to be patient as it takes around 3-4 days. It can leave a soft black residue in the thread, which can be easily cleaned with ultrasonic bath.
Master, can you provide a first issue on how to confirm the position of the hairspring on the swing wheel without marking the position of the outer pile of the hairspring🤝
Hi Kalle, what movements have a robust winding mechanism and stem. I have a Seiko 8L movement which is fine. However, the stem is the weak point. Most watch stems are delicate. I have never had a problem with Tudor or Rolex stems and crowns. Any thoughts? Thank you, Chris
I have broken the windingstem on a Miyota 8285 movement. No idea where I can buy a new stem. What are the regular suppliers for hobbyist? We don´t have acces to the big suppliers for professionals. There is also still a part of the stem in the movement. Guess I'll have to disassemble all the parts?
I have been using this soldering tin for more then 60 years , having been thought by my dear father

Tried that myself once, was shocked how well it worked. Warm water helps, I used an old coffee machine heater plate :-)
