It’s from the German Dark Eye Roleplaying game. Most popular here since the 80’s and currently in its 5th edition. So the setting is classic medieval Fantasy. The stories in this game are based on popular adventure modules from the pen&paper game. For all those who roll low D20 numbers, this is especially for you ;)
Yeah - however as a fellow German player I can tell you that the same dice that roll 1-2 all the time when playing Pathfinder all of a sudden start rolling 19-20 all the time when I play DSA. It's just the Curse of the Dice ;-)
I remember playing this a few years ago. It was good but, like all games of these types, needed character expansions (a few of which did come out at the time).
i have a second hand copy of 1st edition and a couple of expansions. Anyone know where to get more content for this game? I just missed out on the recent kickstarter and it seems they are not allowing late pledges.
Really excellent and fair review Zee. I bought in earlier in lockdown fairly heavily and enjoyed it for what it was. Actually enjoyed the 2 player versus the most. Be aware it is quite expensive for what you get, however.
As a huge fan of pathfinder adventure card game I need this. Looking foward to the upcoming kickstarter they are apparently launching this year where I'll be all in for sure.
Keep an eye open for the new Kickstarter. They had a successful campaign on another platform last year, but cancelled it so they could relaunch on KS sometime early this year to get a larger reach. Inn of the Black Boar is how I got into the game (at that point it was also out of print in the US). Hasn't hit the table as much as I would like, but I don't regret my purchase at all.
Zee is really good at explaining rules, would be cool if he could make a video on tips for teaching games. Maybe a collaboration between him and Melissa, like a top 10 tips for teaching games to new players.
I'm not a fan of the HP card method, but these have a smart diagonal layout. Rather than rotating the Tens card to landscape for 30's and 10's, just keep it in portrait and move it left or right to track the Ones values.
To be honest - if you don't like the HP tracker cards you can always use alternative ways (like using d10s or simply tracking your HP on paper or whatever method you prefer). I bought the original version of the game which had the wheel tracker (which I prefer) - however some people didn't like them because they managed to break the piece that holds the two wheels together. There was actually quite a bit of complains about the wheels (which I don't get - I never had any issues with my trackers and none of them broke).
The low number dice rolling makes skill-checks easier in my opinion, just throw the number or less and that's it, so no laborious rules for skill modifiers and so on like D&D uses them. But in the end everyone has to decide what they prefer.
@@Teachermook The thing is Marvel has loads of characters and then four different ways to play each character with deck building being a great passtime in itself. @@andrethannhauser6302 Yeah, I was hoping it would be the same group for the entire campaign of Pathfinder. And as someone from the US, I'm not sure what Zee was talking about in regards to either generic fantasy or it triggering nostalgia. @@shaneannigans I'm assuming with the Kickstarter campaign later this year (last I heard in the next few months) that they'll do another reprint of the game, like they did when the launched Inn of the Black Boar.
It's a 2017 release that is expensive if you can even find it. There are expansions for it as well, but they are also hard to find and expensive. Weird that Zee reviewed this game four years after it has come and gone, unless it's getting a reprint and Zee knows it.
@@SolidStateSoul I assumed he did it since the latest expansions are on the way this year. I was really surprised when the video ended and he hadn't said it was a sponsored video.

If you don't want to mess with the dice rolling for checks but like the theme and dice rolling check out Heroes of Terrinoth. Great game!

The Late Pledge is online on Game on Tabeltop ATM :)

Zee would you recommend this as a solo game or a guy with low pocket money? If not what is a good alternative?
I would say definitely not. Much better value would be Marvel Champions, which plays similarly but has loads more replayability.
