Storage chest has higher priority than passive provider. So it is also very important chest especially with filter... Logistic bots will first search in storage chests before passive providers. You can do without passive provider but not storage chest... In addition to above, for example while base moving or big upgrading, gathering resoruces to storage chests and depleting them first before passive providers are also good idea. Or if you want to finish all starter patch before outpost ones, storage chests are also good option. Your compact build is not ups friendly. You need to arrange and model your factory in such a way that, there should exist fewer requester and storage/passive provider chests. You need to be able to feed at least 3 assemblers with one chest so less ups work for bots. T shape designs are good for example.
Great video with good usefull info👍But maybe I may suggest that you slow it down a little, and for instance keep your cursor a little longer on the items you use so the pop-up menu is visible for a few seconds more. Thank you👍
Interesting. I havent really used them, so I'd have to experiment but from my very small understanding (mostly just your message) if all resource movement is done by robots anyway then wouldnt green chests be redundant? I know they have increased priority but thats all i know
@@Bokusa Green Chests allow Logistics Robots to move multiple items from one chest to the Requestor chest, that the Construction Robots can then take from the Green chest and build stuff. A good example is building Laser Turrets in the base, and having a Green Chest keep ~20 of them near the front line to replace destroyed Laser Turrets. This way you don't need to bring replacement Turrets from the Logistics or Provider Chest next to the factory.
im kinda new to the game but i use them at my outer walls with lasers walls electric poles in it so when its attacked it repairs instantly is that a correct way to use them or is is not for that?
@@Ozzzy506yep! thats a good use for the buffer chests. The same can be accomplished with a requester requesting and feeding into a passive provider, but the buffer makes it more space effecient and easier
They munch power like craaaazy. There are many ways to optimize robots or ofcourse you can power through it and just make more electricity. I didnt go big robot until i was using nuclear. Or rather- i stopped adding robots till i got nuclear running since it was just hard to keep up.
A logistics network automatically uses the perfect number of robots That it needs to function at maximum efficiency. So you can make as many as you need or want and the system will just use as many as it needs. My main factory runs about 35-45000 robots at any given time but has over a 150,000 in the system
Noob here: I always thought robots looked boring as most the fun in factorio so far for me is getting a nice belt setup going. They actually look pretty fun though.
Robots are definitely my favorite part of the game. something just so satisfying to me about robots is it almost makes it into the ant colony simulator game that I wish existed. The factory is the nest and the robot ports with the self replicating robots being entered in is the queen. They can become hard to watch when youre running 30k+ of them, but its still the perfect level of dumb.
@@Bokusa Surely you could use a console command or mod to enable daytime and then just roll back to a previous save once you’re done filming? Great video, though! Thanks for the tutorial!
doesn't work in 2024 February. Receiver chests have been removed from factorio. Now there are 'passive provider chests' and 'storage chests' . As far as i know, no-one knows how to use them. Robots are dead for the time being. I used to find factorio robots easy to setup; now they have been efffectively deleted
I just updated my game and booted up a new world. Requester chest is still there under logistic system technology requiring yellow science and logi bots. still works just fine :) had to check the moment I read this. this videos still current
@ ah... i see what I'm doing wrong, thanks. I played factorio years ago. It changes every few years. In the good ol' days the requester chests came with the initial robotech, now they have to be researched separately with higher tech. I find this new techtree undermines the point of logistic robots because shifting yellow science packs across an unorganized late-game factory complex is time consuming / difficult, so logistic robots could be very useful; but now the player is forced to use belts to shift yellow sci-packs. Once thats done, there's much less need for logibots if the player is only going for a rocket finish. Wube have put lots of factorio tech outside the scope of rocket finish game. They ought to issue a new longer term goal.
1000% yes. Just started a new game and it’s so annoying having to belt to yellow tech and then getting the green chest way later to be able to complete the bot network. I have been trying to get the yellow and red chests to transport but the bots never come out. You have to tech to the green one which costs 500 yellows
Thank you for this video! I didn't quite understand their purpose before - I guess a simple way to think about them is a "belt upgrade".
Yes! An infinite, boundless electricity powered belt upgrade
Much better than the other video I watched! Thanks.
Im glad it was informational for you! ^_^
Great video, very helpful. Thank you!
thank you mate!
very informative and simple to understand too
hell yeah thank you man, so excited to use robots now!!

you won a sub dude, thanks
The green chest replaces the blue and the red. And you use it to move material across a large base so the robots don't have to go as far.

So when research unlocks Passive and Storage chests, they're useless because you don't have requestor chests?😊
sorta... passuves can still be filled with materials via belt / inserter lineups, but they arent nearly as effective
Bokusa
yesss?
I have the red and yellow chest how do you get the blue?
Logistic system
How to reload gun towers with ammo by robots?
you'd have a chest requesting ammo, then feed them with an inserter
bro i'm getting old you gotta slow down. I thought this was playing in double speed but it wasn't.
