Here is an interesting fact I learned about Christmas TV - there’s no money in it! All the Christmas shopping has already happened. All the good advertising revenue is in the week before, and the weekend before, and then on Boxing Day for the sales. That’s why the BBC is generally a better prospect at Christmas, because they can go for ratings and for bringing the family together and all that stuff without being concerned they’re ‘wasting’ their highest quality content on something they can only put cheap advertising against. This is also why America doesn’t really have a tradition of Christmas TV specials.
As an lutsider looking in, Ive always found Christmas specials fascinating in the UK. Here in Australia, barely anyone watches TV on Xmas day.
